Chapter 208: Dylan's Office (2)
After lecturing Jin on not driving by himself until all his wounds are healed for almost five minutes, Dylan started talking about work.
"You see that pile over there?" He pointed at a pile of papers which were almost four feet in height, placed on his desk, and continued, "You'll be sifting through all that today to find an appropriate movie for yourself."
"...by myself?" Jin couldn't help but ask.
"Yes, since I'll be busy going through the hundreds of emails that are unread in my inbox at the moment," Dylan said while pointing towards his computer.
Hearing this, Jin could only sigh in acknowledgement and stood up to carry those sheets to the centre table. He carried half of it while Dylan helped with the other half.
"Well, let's start then," Jin firmed his mind and took a seat, all prepared to go through all the scripts that were on the table.
"Ignore the scripts where your role is similar to the ones you've done before, like a villain character or an intense character from a spy movie and only focus on other genres," Dylan suggested.
"Why? Shouldn't I be looking to leverage the fans I gained and make similar movies?" Jin asked.
"Nope, it's not time to do that yet. We're still in the process of widening your reach across several genres so that in future, no matter which film you release, it will almost end up as a houseful in the theatres.
It's a little risky method as there's a risk of losing fans because of a flop film, but with your acting skills, that risk becomes zero. It's the method that works only for you, and we'll be leveraging it to the fullest," Dylan said with a grin.
Hearing the big picture which Dylan had in his mind, Jin's eyes glimmered from understanding.
"Sweet! Let's do that," He exclaimed excitedly and started sifting through the scripts one by one.
Seeing this, Dylan too got on his seat and began going through all the emails that were hoarding his inbox.
Time kept passing, and before long, Jin had collected quite a lot of miles beside him on the couch. These were all the scripts that followed a similar trope that he had done before.
Since the directors were inspired by his acting so it was normal for most of the scripts sent by them to be of the same genre.
'Oh, this looks interesting,' Jin thought and picked up a script belonging to the fantasy genre and went through its summary.
A man gets his hands on a watch that sends him to a different dimension where he can level up. He comes across….
With each word that he read, Jin's impression of the film became better and better.
'This is a really interesting idea…I would love to do this,' Thinking this, Jin called Dylan, "How about this? I found the idea quite interesting."
Curious, Dylan walked beside Jin the next moment and looked through the script.
"Hmm, a fantasy novel, huh?" Dylan hummed as he went through the summary and added, "It's a good idea, but there's a major problem here."
"Oh? What's the problem?"Jin asked curiously.
"For such a film to look good, it would need to heavily rely on animations…and when it comes to animation, we are sorely lacking compared to the rest of the world," Dylan sighed.
"But can't we just outsource the animation from foreign companies then…" Jin suggested.
"We can, but that would increase the production costs by such a large margin that there would be very little profit left afterwards. Thus, the movie would struggle to get a producer and will most likely get buried. It's a pity because it's a good story, but that's how things are here," Dylan sighed and said, "It's almost lunch time, so let's go and grab a lunch.
A little disappointed, Jin nodded and soon left for the cafeteria, which was on the first floor, along with Dylan.
When Dylan pushed open the door of the cafeteria hall, lines of fresh actors could be seen sitting on two long tables that stretched a few meters in length.
"Oh yes, there was an audition today," Dylan said with a thought and turned towards Jin, "There's a private eating room for A & B grade actors like you further inside, so let's go there."
Jin nodded at Dylan and followed him inside.
Just like he had guessed, the rookie actors who were all eating in the cafeteria all started murmuring to themselves as they looked at Jin with eyes filled with desire and awe.
Among them was also the blonde man whom Jin had replied to earlier. However, unlike before, his face had lost all colour and he was busy looking down at his plate, which was still untouched.
'...if only I had tripped at the end,' he thought while blaming himself. Just when he thought that his audition was going well, he accidentally twisted his feet and fell before his act was complete.
'God! There's no way they will select me now…I'm sorry Jin…I've failed you,' the man bit his lips in disappointment. Although the results would come after lunch, he had already lost all hope of getting sponsored by the agency.
Not noticing the man who was going through a nervous breakdown, Jin kept following Dylan and soon reached the private room Dylan had talked about.
"Well, that's neat," Jin couldn't help but praise as he looked at the ambience inside the private space. There were spacious and comfy seats for ten people in the room. A buffet was arranged nearby on a long table where the food was kept warm under the mild heat of continuous flame.
The two soon filled their plates and went to a nearby table.
"I never asked before, how many A & B grade actors we have in our agency?" Jin asked as he took his seat.
"Well…" at Jin's question Dylan couldn't help but have uncomfortable smile on his face as he continued, "You're the only A grade actors we have, as for the B grade actors…we have none,"
Jin's eyes widened a little. He knew that Blue Horizon Agency wasn't in the top ten lists and was somewhere in the middle of top 100. It was also the reason why he was easily able to make a debut with their help.
He had thought that because of his successes the state of the agency would have improved significantly but that didn't seem the case.
"Why is that the case? Shouldn't there be more actors coming since my movies did well?" Jin asked.
"Well, they sure are coming, but they are all rookies. We'll have to slowly nurture them and grow them into talented actors. All the other agencies do the same, and that's why it's rare to see A & B grade actors changing agencies unless for extreme reasons. So yeah, it will take us some time to grow such talents."
Dylan sighed. He had been working for this agency for a long while and was thankful to it. Therefore, he wanted it to grow as well.
Seeing this, Jin grinned and said, "Hehe, don't worry. With me here, it's only a matter of time before we'll soon be recognised as a top-most entertainment agency."
'Do you even know how many A-grade actors the top agencies have with them…' Dylan thought, but seeing Jin's confident expression, he didn't feel like pouring water over him and just chuckled while nodding, "Yes, with you it just might be possible…"
