Chapter 195: Last Day of The Academy (E)
The following weeks, Jin continued on with this schedule and made sure to help Ice, Shadow, and Specy to the fullest of his ability during this period.
His efforts were not in vain. When only a week was left until the deadline, the three of them requested Brown to test their skills and take the tests.
All their scores were above 95 marks, which is much higher than the average scores of assassins who leave the academy.
When the three of them realised this, the gratefulness they carried in their hearts towards Jin only increased.
Right now, all four of them were standing in front of the mud hut and were facing Brown while waiting for his last address to begin.
"First of all, congratulations to all four of you for successfully becoming assassins of the organisation."
As Brown said those words, a hint of joy welled up in all their hearts as they all looked back on all that they had gone through in the past three long months.
"Your results will be intimated to the organisation within the next twenty four hours, and you'll be contacted through the KIA app by the officials of your respective branches."
Brown met all their gazes and continued.
"Now, let me brief you a little on the workings of an assassin within the organisation. Firstly, the rank structure. The assassins are ranked from 1 to 9 based on their abilities and the mission completion record.
Since you all have just graduated, from now on, you'll be known as a Rank 9 assassin. When this rank is updated in your KIA application, you'll be able to access high-tier missions, which are riskier and rewarding at the same time.
Do them and get promoted to a higher rank, which will come with its own benefits like free weapons from the organisation, access to a global intelligence network which allows you to get intel on anything or anyone and plenty more.
That's all from my side. I wish you all become great assassins in the future. I'll end this address with the following words: Don't die."
Brown looked at the four of them with a smile at the end. He had enjoyed these last three months a lot thanks to them, especially because of Jin.
He eyed Jin and was about to tell him something when Shadow suddenly asked a question.
"Instructor Brown, what's your rank in the organisation?"
"My rank?" Brown smirked and said, "I retired from active duty a decade ago. At that time, I was a Rank 5 assassin, and since I've maintained my health, I'm still at that rank now."
"Only Rank 5?!" Shadow couldn't help but exclaim in shock.
He wasn't alone. It was the same with everyone present. Especially Jin, who found it quite hard to believe, as Brown had almost reached the S grade in Close Quarter Combat.
"Indeed, the organisation is filled with monsters," Brown added with a humble smile and continued, "That will be all, everyone. Go and pack your belongings first. After lunch, I'll drop you off in my car."
They all nodded and were going to their shelter to pack their bags when Brown suddenly called Jin.
"Zed, you come here. I've something to talk to you about in private."
With that, he gestured to Jin inside the hut. Seeing this, Ice, Shadow, and Specy didn't last long and went towards their shelter.
'What is it that he wants to tell me?' Jin thought with a frown and followed after Brown.
"Close the door," Brown said to Jin as he turned towards him.
Curious as to what Brown wanted to do, Jin did as he was asked and closed the door.
"Do you remember when I told you that the organisation had changed the final test criteria for you after they realised you'd scored full marks in the two tests?" Brown asked all of a sudden.
"Yes, you told me that I would no longer need to worry about dying if I fail to finish a test," Jin said with a thought.
"Indeed. I lied at that time. The truth of the matter is that the organisation is still unaware of it.
I've not sent any of your or your colleagues' reports to the organisation."
Brown stated.
"Why would you do that?" Jin asked with a frown.
"There are two reasons. First, I normally send it at the end of the third month, since it is only during the last few days that everyone attempts the test.
Second, and the most important one, I wanted to know your choice." Brown looked towards Jin with a gaze that carried several meanings.
"My choice? On what?" Jin asked, finding the whole situation quite odd.
"There's a popular saying that the tallest tree faces the brunt of the storm. If I were to report your achievements as it is to the organisation, you will directly be promoted to Rank 4."
"Rank 4?!" Jin's eyes widened at this revelation.
"Indeed, when you become a Rank 4 assassin, you'll be able to get access to a traceless credit card, which you could use anywhere around the world, freedom to choose as many weapons, explosives, gadgets from the app's list, access to Level 4 information all around the world, and a lot of other miscellaneous benefits.
Many assassins, driven by greed, do their best to become Rank 4 but fail to do so because of their aptitude. You could directly become that powerful. Isn't that a wonderful deal?"
Brown asked with a smirk.
'Hmm,' Jin imagined what Brown had just said. It was indeed a very lucrative proposal.
However, Jin didn't lose himself to greed and soon asked Brown, who was intently observing his reaction.
"So what's the catch? Since you have given me an option to not reveal my achievements, there must be a reason for it," Jin asked.
'Looks like I didn't make a wrong decision,' Brown thought when he saw no signs of greed within Jin's eyes when he mentioned those rewards.
"The catch is, you'll have to undergo a brain surgery where a chip would be inserted in your brain. It's called NeuraLock.
Once that's done, you can never defy the orders of the higher-ups and will basically become a slave to them," Brown stated seriously.
"What if I refuse to undergo the surgery?" Jin asked, although he could guess the answer.
"Nothing much on the surface. You'll just stay a Rank 5 and will not get promoted. At least that's what they would make you feel, but within the next six months, you'll accidentally die during a mission. Quite a coincidence, isn't it?" Brown chuckled and asked with a grin.
"So, do you still want to follow this route?"
"What's the route I should take, according to you?" Jin directly asked. Since the other party had revealed so much to him, it's likely that he wants him to do what he says.
Liking how direct Jin was, Brown told Jin, "It's like this…"
