Chapter 44: Quest accepted
Lucian didn't care about how poorly Thorin thought of him. Thorin had saved him from the stress of having to search for him and thinking about who the new hero is. Lucian got rid of his old sword and summoned out two swords in a flash; he grabbed them, removed himself from Marta's worried arms, and then struck his blade at Thorin.
Thorin's blade moved in the air and countered Lucian's attack. He stretched out his one hand and summoned another blade. "Are you the one responsible for Skai's death?" He asked.
Lucian twists his face in confession, wondering who the hell is Skai. He jumped and attacked Thorin again; Thorin's flying blade easily made up for the lack of his right arm.
"I know that you are the one responsible for the death of Skai!" Thorin insisted again, his voice full of pain. "Have you told your teammates the evil you did, or don't tell me they still chose to follow you after knowing that you took the life of a defenseless girl."
"What's he talking about?" Luna voiced out and tried remembering if their team had come across any lone innocent female they decided to slaughter for fun, but nothing came to mind.
"He's crazy; I'm going to bury him alive." Marta formed a magic circle in anger; she threw sharp rocky pieces at Thorin, but Thorin's sword, which flew in the air, easily moved fast enough to counter her attack.
"There is this strong magical aura around him; my nightmare system can't get to him." Soren said as he continued to try his magic on Thorin.
Luna's lazy gaze moved between her teammates. 'Well, he's not the hero for nothing,' she thought. Luna knew that Thorin wouldn't be easily defeated. She considered telling Marta and Soren to stay put and relax because Lucian could handle himself without their involvement; after all, Thorin was alone.
"Forget it." Luna muttered to herself and sat on the ground, deciding to leave Marta and Soren to whatever decisions make them happy. She thought that they would be joining her soon when they got tired, because attacking someone like Thorin, who was out of their league, was pointless.
"Someone as wicked as you deserves to stay alone forever; soon, you will be leading your teammate to death."
'Lucian has led us to a lot of deadly situations.' Luna thought as she listened to Thorin's words. 'It is amazing that we are still alive.' She smiled to herself. Listening to Thorin's gibberish was starting to make her crave something she hasn't had for a long time: popcorn. Luna felt a popcorn and a chilled coke were the only things missing from the entertainment before her. It made her groan in frustration, 'I missed my world.'
"At least I'm not a stupid coward who ran away and abandoned my teammates to die because of fear and selfishness." Lucian grunts as his blade strikes Thorin's blade. The annoying blade in the air moved like an extension of Thorin's limbs, making it difficult for Lucian to cut Thorin down.
"I acknowledge my past mistakes, and I have repented for them. I'm no longer living my life in that same pathetic state, but someone like you, Lucian, can never change. You think you are better than everyone else and that you are allowed to do whatever you want and no one would dare to challenge you." Thorin pointed his sword at Marta's throat in a form of warning for her to stop bothering him. "It must have been easy for you to kill Skai, but now you won't admit it."
Lucian flings his blade at Thorin, making him separate himself from Marta. "Seriously, who the f*ck is Skai?!" He asked in frustration, sick of hearing Thorin mention the name again and again.
Realizing that Lucian might not have bothered to know the name of his victim because he was a cold-blooded killer. Thorin gave out a description of Skai.
Lucian remembered the nosey females who had fallen off a cliff, "that girl." He thought out loud.
"Did you kill her?" Luna doubtfully glared at Lucian, wondering if he had gone on a killing spree behind her back. Ever since Soren and Marta joined the team, Lucian had been less cold, not kind, but he had been behaving well enough.
"She fell off a cliff while running away from me. I didn't push her." Lucian said to Luna in his defense, after his unfortunate encounters with Skai, he didn't tell his teammates of her death.
While Lucian was distracted, Thorin grabbed his hand, and he used his sword to skillfully cut away the clothing material surrounding Lucian's arm, hoping to see the scar Skai left. He had thought that if Lucian's teammates didn't know the truth about Skai, that would mean Luna didn't heal him; the scratches of Skai's nails must still be imprinted in Lucian's skin, but to his surprise. There was nothing.
Lucian's upgraded beast ability quickly healed him whenever he got hurt, even if it was just a little scratch, and he was afraid that Thorin's sword would pierce his skin and then he would find out about his hidden abilities. Lucian clothed his naked arm with lightning, which made Thorin distance himself from him.
"I didn't kill that damned girl!" Lucian yelled even though he knew that nothing he said was ever going to be enough to convince Thorin.
"I know that you pushed Skai down that cliff; probably you are too ashamed to admit the truth in front of your teammate. Skai may not be alive anymore, but I'm going to take revenge for her on her behalf, not just her alone, but many others who have died at the beginning of this game while you chose to stay alive."
Thorin's system pops out, giving him a new quest.
[Savior of the people]
[The blood of the dead cries out to the golden heart of the hero]
[Slay the villain Lucian. Give redemption to the dead and the living]
"Quest accepted." Thorin smiled to himself; he felt like he was on the right path. His system quest was nothing more than a confirmation. Killing Lucian was the only way to right every mistake he made since the game started.
