My Beast is really not an evil god

Chapter 5: The First Beast(1)

After separating from the non-awakened students, Sein and the others were led to a massive hall within the academy known as the Resource Distribution Chamber. The room was expansive, with high ceilings and gleaming stone floors, designed to accommodate large groups of students. Along the walls, there were separate sections marked by banners indicating different numbers, and behind each section, academy staff sat at desks, ready to distribute items.

A teacher stepped forward and addressed the group in a firm but clear voice. "All of you, line up in the section corresponding to your class to receive your skill book and equipment."

With that, he moved toward the front of the hall, pointing out the banners and assigning each class to its respective section. The students began shuffling into lines, their excitement and curiosity evident in the buzz of conversation around the room.

Sein and the others joined the line for their assigned section, waiting as the teacher behind the desk methodically checked names and handed out the promised rewards. The line moved steadily, and soon it was Sein's turn.

He approached the desk confidently.

"Name?" the teacher asked without looking up.

"Sein Noctis," he replied.

The teacher scanned the list in front of him. "Hmm… two skill books and an elite-level equipment ," he said, confirming Sein's information.

The teacher handed over two shimmering objects that looked like small emerald blocks, each adorned with faint, flickering symbols. "Here are your skill books," he said before pausing. "For the elite equipment—what type would you prefer? Attack, defense, or support?"

Sein hesitated for a moment, considering his options. Then he asked, "Teacher, could I get a beast instead of equipment?"

"Uh, wait a moment, I'll confirm," the teacher said, pulling out a phone and dialing a number. He stepped slightly aside, speaking in hushed tones as the call connected.

Sein stood silently, watching the teacher make the call. Although the idea of taking equipment wasn't bad, it felt impractical to him. What he truly needed now was a beast, something foundational to his chosen career.

Selling the equipment to fund a beast wasn't a feasible option either. The selling price of equipment was much lower than the buying price, making it an unprofitable trade. As a complete newbie without any backing or financial stability, the risk of loss was too great. Instead, acquiring a beast now would save him both time and resources, giving him a stronger start in his career as a Beast Tamer.

After a short while, the teacher returned to Sein, holding a small piece of paper.

"Well, the dean has approved your request. You can visit the Bio Garden with this note," the teacher said while quickly scribbling something on the paper and stamping it with an official seal. "The staff there will assist you in selecting a beast."

He handed the note to Sein, who took it with both hands and a respectful nod. "Thank you, teacher," Sein said sincerely, tucking the note away safely.

After receiving the note, Sein moved to the side, where other students who had already collected their equipment and skill books were gathered.

Roy immediately approached him, his face brimming with curiosity. "Hey, Sein! What equipment did you get?"

"Nothing," Sein replied nonchalantly.

Roy asked, confused, "Why?"

Sein shrugged and said, "I requested a beast instead of equipment."

He added, "Since my career is Beast Tamer, having a beast is essential for me, so I thought it was more useful than equipment."

"But the beasts in the academy are usually limited to certain types, not as versatile as the ones on the market," Roy said quickly, his tone slightly annoyed. "If you wanted one, you could've just asked me! I would have helped you get one."

"But didn't you say you don't like to contact your family?" Sein replied with a shrug, already aware of Roy's background as a member of a wealthy and powerful family.

Although they had been friends since childhood, Roy rarely spoke about his family, except to complain about how annoying his family members were and how much he disliked dealing with them.

"Hmph, you didn't need to care. Just come with me, I'll help you get a high-quality beast," Roy insisted.

"No need, no need. You've already helped me more than enough," Sein quickly declined.

From his memories, he knew that Roy had assisted his family countless times in the past. Despite the immense wealth and influence Roy's family held, Sein didn't want to burden him any further. He respected Roy's wish to avoid relying on his family, even though Roy was always willing to lend a hand.

After a bit of bickering, Sein finally managed to convince Roy to let him handle it himself and get a beast from the academy.

"Haah, fine, but promise me this—if you don't find the beast you want, you'll come to me, alright?" Roy said with a sigh.

"Okay, okay, don't worry. I'll come to you if I need help," Sein reassured him.

After a while, all the students had collected their skill books and equipment. The room buzzed with chatter as everyone prepared to leave.

The students were growing impatient, eager to use their new skill books. The process of activating a skill was simple: all you had to do was hold the book against your forehead, and after a brief moment, the skill associated with your career would be automatically absorbed.

It was recommended that students activate their skill books within the academy. Using skill books outside could lead to complications such as theft or misuse. Inside the academy, however, the environment was secure, ensuring that no one could steal or misuse another student's skill book, making it the safest place to unlock their new abilities.

After a while, the teacher stepped in front of all the students and led them to another open space.

"Here, you can activate your skill books, but remember, do not use them just yet," the teacher instructed. "You will be provided with a designated target room where you can safely try out your new skills."

The students nodded, understanding that the target room was designed for them to practice their abilities without risk to themselves or others. It was the best way to safely test their new powers and familiarize themselves with their skills.

While the others were eagerly preparing to use their skill books, Sein waved goodbye to Roy and approached the teacher.

"Excuse me, teacher," Sein said respectfully, "I need to visit the Bio Garden. I was granted permission to choose a beast instead of equipment."

The teacher glanced at him and nodded. "Ah, you're the one with the Beast Tamer career. You can go ahead."

"Thank you," Sein replied before turning and making his way toward the Bio Garden.
