Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Even Seeking Death Is Hard
In the eighteen levels of hell, one might eventually see an end, but in Han Yu's hands, life or death depended solely on his mood. Han Yu was still human, a person capable of compassion, but his compassion was not something to be squandered. If an irredeemable villain claimed to repent, forgiveness was God's business. What Han Yu did was send them to meet God.
However, this process could be excruciatingly long.
Violence never truly solved problems, but it certainly fixed people with a few screws loose.
Han Yu had seen, within Ebony Maw's mind, the people he had killed and the cruel acts he would have committed on Earth. This left Han Yu with not a shred of sympathy for him. After all, the ones torturing him were the vengeful spirits that had clung to him for ages—Han Yu merely provided them the opportunity for revenge.
"Alright, alright, everyone take a break. Let's pause and save some for later. It's our turn to have some fun," Han Yu said as he stepped forward. As his words fell, the room's temperature dropped sharply, and even the weather outside grew gloomier.
He knew this was the work of the vengeful spirits attached to Ebony Maw.
"Quiet down," Han Yu muttered, frowning slightly. A surge of powerful ocular energy radiated from his eyes, suppressing all the restless spirits. The Mangekyō Sharingan activated!
With just one sharp glare, the spirits cowered instantly.
The chakra Han Yu emitted wasn't even from the same world as these spirits, yet it suppressed them effortlessly. The power of the Mangekyō Sharingan was formidable—even a Kage-level ninja wouldn't dare underestimate it. These spirits, while strong collectively, were insignificant individually.
Relying on his formidable mental strength, Han Yu masterfully wielded the chakra within the Mangekyō Sharingan. Suppressing these spirits was child's play; he didn't even need to create illusions to subdue them.
If he wished, Han Yu could even "resurrect" them using the Mangekyō Sharingan, constructing a vast illusionary world for them to inhabit. For Han Yu, this was entirely possible.
"Seeing you in such a miserable state puts my mind at ease," Han Yu said with a smile, deactivating the Mangekyō Sharingan and looking at Ebony Maw.
Ebony Maw, realizing the figure before him wasn't another spirit, slowly widened his pupils, previously constricted by fear and envy. Glancing around, he confirmed he had returned to reality. Then, unexpectedly, he lifted his hand, dark energy enveloping his palm—but instead of attacking Han Yu or anyone else, he drove it toward his own neck.
He had been waiting for this moment, not to resist but to end his own life.
What had been mere hours in the real world felt like centuries of torment within the illusion for Ebony Maw. He had considered giving up numerous times, letting the spirits consume his body and end his suffering. Yet, whenever he neared death, an unfamiliar energy within him would slowly heal his body—not enough to restore him, just enough to keep him alive, prolonging his agony.
Ebony Maw had long decided that if he ever regained control, he would end his life immediately. He knew there was no escape, so it was better to grant himself a quick death.
Unfortunately, even this was denied. His wrist was caught by Quicksilver, whose crimson eyes, adorned with a single tomoe spinning within, locked onto him. Quicksilver leaned down, a chilling smile spreading across his face.
"Try my illusion technique."
Ironically, Quicksilver became the first to experiment with his Sharingan.
Though it was merely a single tomoe Sharingan, he had already managed to construct a fairly complete illusionary space. It seemed that once he got serious, he could achieve remarkable results.
However, within the confines of the convenience store, he wasn't considered particularly strong because everyone there was a monster in their own right. But if Quicksilver were to step outside, he would undoubtedly be one of Earth's top-tier powerhouses.
The following time was left to Quicksilver and the others. Initially, Wanda and Galacta felt uneasy about torturing someone. However, after witnessing the inhumane acts Ebony Maw had committed against the inhabitants of other planets, they quickly crossed that moral line.
A sudden ringtone pulled Han Yu out of the room—it was a call from Captain America.
"Han, have you dealt with the aliens that landed in New York?"
"Yeah, why?" Han Yu replied casually.
"Their ship is still hovering in the sky, causing widespread panic among civilians. Should we leave it to S.H.I.E.L.D., or do we handle it ourselves?" Cap asked.
Han Yu suddenly realized he'd completely forgotten about that. After dealing with Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf, he had gone straight back to the general store, leaving the massive mothership still floating outside.
"You guys handle it. Bring the ship back to our Green Lantern base. We can dismantle it, see if there's anything useful, and make some modifications," Han Yu said bluntly, as if the ship already belonged to them.
When it came to that massive mothership, he had never considered handing it over to Earth's regular forces. No matter which country obtained such advanced alien technology, it wouldn't end well. If certain components leaked onto the black market, it would lead to chaos and bloodshed among ordinary people.
Rather than giving it to other nations, Han Yu preferred his Green Lantern Corps to handle it. He trusted himself not to do anything harmful to Earth. Even if he wanted to, he wouldn't need alien tech for that. At his current strength, he could crush Earth effortlessly. If brute force wasn't enough, he had a simple backup plan: throw another punch.
...
After receiving Han Yu's clear instructions, Captain America agreed and hung up.
Soon, two dazzling green beams of light streaked through the sky, entering the massive mothership. Not long after, the ship lifted off, engaged its cloaking mechanism, and vanished from sight.
Han Yu wasn't surprised. He knew the ship's interior design—controlling takeoff and landing was as simple as operating two levers. The Green Lantern rings contained vast amounts of advanced technological knowledge. Even though the universes differed, the mechanical principles remained the same.
Cap and Bucky weren't fools. A quick review of the ship's systems was enough for them to manage basic controls, especially takeoff and landing.
Seeing them handle it smoothly, Han Yu nodded in satisfaction. Since it was sorted, there was no need for him to intervene.
The remaining cleanup and street management were left to S.H.I.E.L.D.
For minor issues like this, S.H.I.E.L.D. was more than capable.
