Chapter 491: Travel and Non-Travel Travel Chapter Thirty-Eight Sea Battle_2
The scariest thing about this monster is its digestion ability. It doesn't have a mouth, and there's no distinction between a so-called head and body. It senses what's happening around it through vibrations, then anything that might be a living creature is immediately wrapped and engulfed into its body. The gray bodily fluid immediately starts working by extracting flesh from any possible gap — mouth, nose, or even pores — leaving behind only skeletal remains as the last trace of that life in the world, apart from becoming a constantly moving mist of flesh absorbed by the monster.
"Bastard!" Zilvra thrust her thin sword into the "tentacle" of a nearby skeletal slime monster, the spiral-shaped magic weapon easily piercing through. Lynch had crafted that thin sword based on the explosive property of his lightning; as long as there was enough speed, that weapon could replicate all the effects of Lynch's lightning.
The sudden explosion shattered the gray gelatinous tentacle clinging to the ship, startling Zilvra, who quickly retreated. The skeletal slime monster didn't feel pain, but the massive shockwave precisely alerted it to the location of its enemy. Before Zilvra could land, several tentacles quickly lunged at her.
"Here's the real magic, you spoiled jelly!" Lynch pulled out a magic scroll and aimed his magic wand at the tentacles: "Chain Lightning!"
Most of the magic Lynch had prepared was intended to set the mood for a party, so he had to rely on scrolls for combat spells.
Lynch, fighting with the highest magical power he could muster, didn't disappoint Zilvra; the gray tentacles were blown apart by the continuous intense blasts in the air. The ship, Sea Conch, rocked violently, and the sudden crosswind overwhelmed it. However, they should thank the skeletal slime monster, as its underwater tentacles kept the ship from capsizing.
Fragments of gray gelatinous substance fell from the sky, causing a needle-like pain when they landed on the skin. If not quickly brushed off, they would cause severe skin bleeding. Under Lynch's warning, the sailors hurriedly put on protective clothing, each grabbing onto nearby ropes to avoid being thrown off the ship.
Knight Macken wasn't foolish enough to cut the monster with his weapon. Whether or not it could cause harm, that sticky liquid might absorb his longsword, never to be drawn out again. He could only grab a solid piece of wood, smashing down on the gray gelatin on the deck like swatting a fly, trying to break it apart and loosen the skeletal slime monster's grip on the ship as much as possible.
High above, little Soka was arguably the safest person. She hid outside the skeletal slime monster's attack range, continuously shooting downwards with her long-range rapid-fire bow and arrows. Unfortunately, the sea monster didn't have any obvious weak points. Each arrow pushed back its body temporarily but failed to cause any substantial damage.
"Hmph! This big guy is really annoying!" Soka realized that her supply of arrows was dwindling, so she changed her strategy to target threatening tentacles, covering her companions.
Although his Chain Lightning greatly boosted the crew's morale, Lynch was not satisfied with its effect. The spell was essentially the limit of his current magical abilities, and if it could only eliminate a small section of tentacle, it seemed impossible to completely repel the skeletal slime monster before his power was exhausted.
"We still need to find a way to escape!" Lynch, watching the monster grow taller and taller, immediately realized its intent: "You want to swallow the entire ship, dream on!"
Before the skeletal slime monster could press down, Lynch managed to erect two force field walls, and an enormous rumbling sound erupted overhead, deafeningly loud. It seemed as if everyone on the ship believed they'd be crushed by the all-encompassing shadow, but the invisible walls shielded the ship from above.
However, Lynch wasn't feeling so great. To prevent the force field from being insufficient and crushed under the first impact, the mage continuously channeled the power of the magic origin into the transparent walls, acting as a conduit for this energy. Although the force field walls wobbled precariously without shattering, Lynch suffered a heavy mental blow due to his spiritual link with that protective layer, leaving his head buzzing.
"Captain! Now that thing is pressing against the keel, I'm afraid it won't hold!" a sailor ran up from the lower deck, dripping with sweat, shouting: "We can already hear the creaking of breaking wood, what do we do now?"
