Love is Worth Waiting for

Chapter 5: Business Deal

Sunny finished cleaning up the last table, glancing over at Morgan who had been sitting still for a couple of hours now.

'Doesn't she have anything better to do?' Sunny was exasperated, she didn't even order anything else. Morgan had been sitting by herself watching him serve other customers.

'Wasn't she trying to be inconspicuous? Surely that defeats the point?'

She looked up as if noticing his gaze. Actually he wouldn't be surprised if that was exactly what had happened considering her arsenal of memories and own inhuman capabilities.

Morgan smiled slightly. It still looked sinister to Sunny so he shivered at the sight.

"Let me finish this and I'll be right over." He spoke, not raising his voice, the quiet of the empty cafe didn't require him to.

"I'm nothing if not patient." She replied.

'Yeah, I can see that, actually I'd prefer if you weren't watching me like I'm going to escape any second.'

Sunny wasn't too excited at the prospect of giving away more of his ability to Valor, but he had to keep up appearances, so he gave her a small smile of acknowledgement.

He retreated to the kitchen once more, Aiko had already left and he had dismissed his avatar so he was alone. It was probably his last moment of respite before he had to be careful of every word and action.

He sighed, 'It's nothing I haven't done before.' All he wished was for this to be over today and to return to his comparatively peaceful life.

Sunny leant on the countertop and took one more moment for himself before he pushed himself up and walked out of the kitchen.

***

Morgan had been content with simply watching Sunny work, but had also been ripe with anticipation.

'If he can truly pull off what he says he can, I can use it as justification to bring him to Valor.' her thoughts were born from a mixture of responsibility to her clan and selfish desire to keep him close.

Morgan knew that after she recovered from the affects of the fateful event that lead to this situation, she'd likely go back to her previous state of ruthless efficiency and disregard for personal wants.

She wanted something to keep by her side to be a reminder of joy and a spark of light in dark times.

Even in her current state, Morgan wasn't delusional enough to think she could have a future with the enchanting master. Let alone masters, even saints wouldn't be left unharmed from her flaw without armour.

That's why she let herself go. The last few hours of mindless joy she could have to herself before she would return to the sharp and sinister blade that she was.

She looked up at Sunny as he approached. He wasn't tall, far from it actually, she liked it better that way.

"So you wanted a transcendent charm?" He pulled back a chair and sat across from her.

Morgan nodded. "I gave it some more thought, I'm more in need of a bow actually."

He seemed slightly amused, but kept a straight face.

"I see, just to confirm, you don't mind it being less powerful than the average transcendent weapon?"

"Not at all, I don't need it for its power. I'm lacking a way to take care of multiple weaker nightmare creatures, like corrupted beasts and monsters." She subtly let on that she was a saint, but he seemed to have already realised.

What was surprising to her was his lack of reaction and quiet confidence despite knowing her as a saint. 'Clearly he has some saints among his clientele… He's definitely more skilled than he lets on'

Morgan was vaguely aware of the reason why he chose to hide his abilities. 'He seems to have some aversion if not animosity towards Valor.'

Of course, that didn't stop her from wanting him there, even if he wasn't entirely enthusiastic about the idea.

During the time she was pondering his motives he had appeared to be thinking.

"Ok, I have an idea of what I could do unless you have some specific enchantments in mind."

"I did, but I'd like to hear your take on it first." She was interested to hear his take on the idea.

"I was thinking of two separate memories. One is the bow itself that would be enchanted to shoot as quickly as possible, and grant the ability to shoot anything. The second would be a quiver that bestows every arrow placed within a stored element."

He paused for a moment before explaining his thought process. "If you want to deal damage over a large amount of space you could send volleys of arrows with elements that could spread like lightning. Alternatively, if you have a memory that can produce some kind of powerful acid or poison, the nature of the bow would allow you to simply send the liquid a far distance."

She listened intently, "I like your idea." He was certainly creative if not anything else. The master had successfully come up with a solution that could allow the user to supplement the bow's lacking strength with other memories.

Morgan also noted on his love of the craft, 'He seems very passionate about this sort of thing.'

He smiled and replied, "It will be more costly because I'm making two separate memories, but I should be able to complete your order in about two weeks."

Morgan's smile grew wider but was also surprised. 'Two memories in two weeks? He's a lot more competent than I gave him credit for.'

Her desire to bring him to Valor increased, 'But that's only if he proves himself capable.'

"Very well, you have yourself a deal." Morgan smiled.

The master smiled back, "Do you have any means through which I should contact you?"

She shook her head, "No need, this place has grown on me, I'll be back often."

'Is it just me or did his smile become stiffer?' Morgan didn't linger on it.

"I'll see you again tomorrow, you make great waffles."
