Love is Worth Waiting for

Chapter 6: First Steps

Sunny watched as Morgan exited the cafe, suddenly resolved to finish the commission as soon as possible.

'Curses, why are my waffle making skills so sublime?' Sunny had been feeling bitter for hours now, but the fact that Morgan said she'd keep coming brought his feelings of bitterness to a new level.

'How much time does she have? Surely she has things to do other than bothering a poor shopkeeper.' Sunny lamented over his situation.

He sighed and decided to start immediately, hoping to get the baleful princess off of his back sooner rather than later.

Sunny walked downstairs into the expanded space of the mimic and found himself in a darkly ambient room. It had cost him a lot, but the atmosphere of prestige and luxury was well worth it. It was part of the reason for his reputation after all.

Sunny took a passing glance at the memories strung up around the room and continued to his workshop.

Piles of monster remains and soul cores were strewn around one side of the room, and his work area was on the other. The area where he worked was devoid of tools, only the necessary things he couldn't turn Serpent into remained.

He walked up to the pile of nightmare creature remains and picked out a few large pieces of leather. He was glad to have hunted for suitable materials previously so he wouldn't have to track a nightmare creature down.

Sunny haphazardly threw an assortment of materials to the other side of the room. None of them would be damaged so he didn't care to treat them carefully.

He didn't look too closely at any of them because he was already intimately familiar with the properties considering he had hunted and processed them himself.

Sunny soon stood up and made his way over to the other side of the room. He walked past his anvil and metallurgy setup and stopped at a regular bench.

Sunny immediately got to work outlining the basic layout of the quiver and cutting it into the leather. He followed the familiar steps and finished that part without any difficulty.

The leather was from a corrupted monster, so he had no trouble slicing through it with just his fingernail.

After cutting the leather into shape, he summoned Weaver's Needle and got to work sewing it together. Sunny then cut a strip of leather and fixed it to the plain quiver to act as a strap.

'It works as it is, but presentation is key.' He attached some fur and metal at the top of the quiver and carved a light pattern along its body. The pattern didn't depict anything, he just drew swirls and sharp angles where he felt it was right.

'That's the quiver done.' It took him no longer than half an hour to complete. He was uniquely skilled in delicate and precise craftsmanship due to [Bone Weave] and his increased tactile sensitivity.

Sunny moved onto the bow. The strength of a bow depended on the toughness of the material used. He needed a material that a transcendent was capable of drawing back many times in quick succession with relatively little resistance.

He had already picked out a suitable candidate. It was a log of wood. Sunny had metals but most were too tough for the bow he was envisioning.

All of the wood Sunny kept was already debarked and dried out, so he wouldn't have to spend time on those aspects of the process.

He started by letting the serpent tattoo slither across his arm and turn into an obsidian knife. Using the knife he roughly shaped the bow, creating a blocky form that he could be worked with more easily.

Next, he shaved off more wood, bringing it closer to his desired end shape, and then he turned the serpent into a chisel to finish the rest.

He was soon done with the shaping of the bow.

For the finishing touches, Sunny cut out some more of the leather he had used to make the quiver and wrapped it around the handle of the bow.

He then followed the same finishing steps that he did with the quiver, attaching bits of metal and carving a shallow pattern into the wood.

His final step was to string the bow which he did by punching a small hole in the top and bottom of the wooden body he had and wrapping a thin string through and around each end.

Sunny took a step back, admiring his work. He did a cautionary review of the two to see if he missed anything or messed something up.

He didn't think he did or even could because of all of the advantages he possessed that were suited to every type of craft, but it was always good to check.

He finished his investigation and concluded there weren't any lacking parts, taking a step back once again to appreciate his craftsmanship.

The bow and quiver were a pair so he had used some of the same materials and patterns to embellish both. It had worked as he intended and they looked like they were meant to be together.

'That was the easy part.' Sunny sighed. Although it wasn't all that difficult, he had spent close to three hours completing everything.

The next part was weaving the enchantments into the two objects. 'I'll just make them into memories for now and do the enchantments tomorrow.'

Saints could go for days without sleep, but that day had been especially stressful for Sunny so he decided against staying up.

He picked out two transcendent soul cores and began weaving the basic three enchantments all memories had.

He didn't need any more than one core to support the enchantments, as even a singular dormant soul core could. Sunny, of course, would be adding more later to support the later enchantments, but for now one was enough.

He quickly finished and summoned the two memories into his soul sea, not even bothering to name them properly yet.

'I better get some rest before the Cafe opens again tomorrow' Sunny got up and walked to his bedroom. 'I can't wait for this to be over.'
