Chapter 465: Suspect
At this moment, it was already dark outside, yet the Robbery and Murder Department interrogation room remained brightly lit.
A tall black man was handcuffed to the interrogation chair, frowning and squinting, seemingly unaccustomed to the light in the room.
"Creak..." The door opened, and Luke and David walked into the interrogation room, chatting and laughing.
Even when they were partners, the two rarely conducted interrogations together. David's temper was too volatile for this kind of work.
But today was different. This case involved drugs, and people from the Anti-Black and Anti-Drugs Division were also involved in the investigation. David was participating in the interrogation as a representative of the Anti-Drugs Division.
The three of them sized each other up, and the anger on Adel Owen's face had disappeared since being caught.
Luke opened the folder and asked, "What's your name?"
Adel Owen shrugged, "Always the same question, aren't you tired?"
Luke said, "Don't act relaxed in front of me. Just answer what I ask. This is not the place to show your personality.
Also, a friendly reminder, one of your accomplices is also being interrogated in the next room."
Adel Owen retorted, "And then? If I cooperate with your investigation, will you let me go?"
Luke took a sip of coffee to moisten his throat, "Be realistic. You are like someone facing a grizzly bear unarmed—it's impossible to defeat it. But if you can run faster than your companion, you might survive."
Adel Owen sneered, "I hate that analogy and despise grizzly bears more."
David laughed, "Look on the bright side; today is the happiest day of the rest of your life."
Adel Owen glared at David, "Thanks for the heads-up. You're so thoughtful."
"OK, psychological counseling is over. Let's get down to business," Luke said straightforwardly, "Do you know Harry Sabo?"
"Yes, that son of a bitch swallowed my goods. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be sitting here."
"So, do you admit to murdering Harry Sabo?"
Adel Owen paused, "What? You said Harry Sabo is dead?"
"Don't act innocent. You had a motive. Harry Sabo and Enco Dumate swallowed your goods. To get back at them, you killed Harry Sabo first and then kidnapped Enco Dumate's daughter."
"I didn't kill Harry Sabo. I just want to get the money back for those goods, and that's why I kidnapped Enco Dumate's daughter.
But that doesn't mean I'd kill anyone. If I killed both Harry Sabo and Enco Dumate, who would pay me?
Moreover, I couldn't even find Harry Sabo.
I don't know if he's dead, but it has nothing to do with me."
Luke confirmed again, "On March 2nd, did you see Harry Sabo?"
"No."
"Did you shoot Harry Sabo?"
"No."
Luke stared at the expression, seeing no obvious signs of lying.
Could he really not be the killer?
Then who could it be?
Luke remembered the robbery during the deal between Harry Sabo and Enco Dumate and asked, "Did you rob Harry Sabo and Enco Dumate?"
"Come on, I'm a businessman. The long-term benefits of this business far exceed robbery. I'd have to be out of my mind to do something like that.
I know something might have gone wrong after they took the goods, but it wasn't my fault.
In this industry, double-crossing is common. If they weren't prepared for this, then they deserved their fate," Adel Owen said angrily,
"I shouldn't have partnered with them. Two inexperienced novices."
Luke took a sip from his coffee cup and gave David a look.
David yawned and pulled out some photos from the folder, "The SWAT team raided your hideout and found a large quantity of drugs. The amount is enough to get you the death penalty."
Adel Owen picked up the photos and sighed, "Yes, those drugs are mine."
David pressed further, "Where did these drugs come from?"
Adel Owen pointed his right index finger at the photo, "I'm the only one who knows the source of the drugs. If you want to know, show some sincerity."
David retorted, "What kind of sincerity do you want?"
"I want to be turned into a whistleblower."
David laughed, "And what sincerity do you offer?"
"I can help you catch the supplier responsible for selling the drugs, who is also the manufacturer. That's the real big fish. He has at least four to five 'distributors' like me. Once you catch him, you can uproot the entire drug network."
"Sounds good."
"Trust me, it will definitely be worth your while..."
Half an hour later, Luke and David walked out of the interrogation room. Adel Owen admitted to trafficking drugs but not to murder.
The police indeed had no evidence linking him to Harry Sabo's death.
After some discussion, Adel Owen was temporarily handed over to the Anti-Black and Anti-Drugs Division for investigation.
Luke continued to investigate the murder of Harry Sabo.
...
The next morning.
Luke held a case summary meeting in the office.
The purpose of the meeting was to determine the direction of the next investigation.
In the case of Harry Sabo's murder, Enco Dumate was a key figure.
He had a very close relationship with Harry Sabo. The two trafficked drugs together, and they had planned to meet at the crime scene on the night Harry Sabo was killed.
