Chapter 335 Persuading with Reason_2
As long as Chanel Karl and Fuan Cruise got married, and as opportunities for interaction increased, revealing the matters concerning Galcan to Fuan Cruise would naturally happen in due course.
Of course, thinking about it was simple, but carrying it out was not as easy.
In Luke's view, this engagement ceremony was just a beginning. In the future, this family would become even livelier.
There wasn't a single easygoing person among them.
"Ring... Ring..."
Luke's phone rang. He glanced at the screen; it was a call from his informant, Anlek Raul.
"Hello, this is Luke."
"Boss, you guessed right. That guy is driving towards the southern suburbs of Los Angeles."
"Send me his location."
"Alright."
Luke hung up the phone and received the location coordinates sent by Anlek Raul.
Three days ago, Daisy had approached Luke, telling him her biological father, Lawrence Miller, came to the law firm to borrow money. Daisy had refused him and Lawrence Miller left without causing a scene or uttering any threats.
This, however, made her feel uneasy and she asked Luke for help.
Luke then had his informants keep an eye on Lawrence Miller.
Luke suspected that he was likely the one sending threatening letters to Hill Cruise, the employer's son.
As for the reason, Hill Cruise's current wife, Isabel Cruise, was Lawrence Miller's ex-wife, and also Daisy's mother.
According to investigations done by Orty.
Daisy's mother divorced Lawrence Miller eighteen years ago. Afterward, she raised Daisy by herself and fourteen years ago she married Hill Cruise and had a daughter, Erin.
So, when Luke met Isabel Cruise for the first time, he felt she seemed familiar.
Luke approached Fuan Cruise, "Mr. Cruise, may I have a word with you in private?"
"Of course."
The two stepped aside, and Luke said, "Mr. Cruise, I've received information that someone might try to disrupt the engagement ceremony. May I borrow a car to intercept them?"
"Who is it? Why would they do this?"
"It's possible this person is not targeting you specifically.
But, with your vast enterprises and many relatives.
As the head of the family, some might blame you for past grievances. If your engagement ceremony is disrupted, it would shame the entire Cruise family."
"These fellows really never give one a moment's peace." Cruise frowned slightly, "Do you need anything else?"
"No, just a car. The Detective Agency will have others to back me up."
"Thank you for your efforts.
I'll have Tom take you to the garage; you may choose any car there."
"That sounds good."
...
Minutes later, a Hummer H2 SUT drove out of the estate.
This was a high-powered pickup truck. Luke already had a motorcycle, a car, and was only missing a pickup truck.
This type of vehicle was suitable for suburban driving—tall, powerful, with spacious interiors, driving it felt even better than a Bentley, the only downside being its high fuel consumption.
After driving a distance, Luke saw a black Honda approaching from the opposite direction. He then slowed down and swerved the car to block the middle of the road.
The black Honda stopped, and a man in his fifties, still fairly handsome despite his age, stepped out cursing, "Can't you drive? Why are you stopping in the middle of the road?"
Luke stepped out of the car, smiling, "Hey buddy, long time no see."
The man, surprised, said, "Wow, if it isn't Officer Luke?"
"You reek of alcohol. How much did you drink?" Luke didn't even need to get close to smell the alcohol.
"I had a beer, I'm sober." the man replied dismissively, then asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here for a friend's engagement. How about you?"
"Ha, ha." The man chuckled, then asked in return, "Did you come with Daisy?"
This white man was indeed Daisy's biological father, Lawrence Miller.
"No, I was invited by Mr. Fuan Cruise."
"Surprising, climbing up to the Cruise family. Right, finding a wealthy father-in-law is always better than ending up like me. The world is still so realistic, repeating the same dramas, unabated."
"Daisy doesn't even know I'm here. She never mentioned her mother re-marrying.
I came here not just for Daisy."
"Then I'm curious to know, what exactly is your relationship with the Cruise family?"
"The 'Cruise' we are talking about is not the same person.
My employer is Fuan Cruise.
He intends to get engaged to a lady, but many are opposed. To ensure that the engagement ceremony goes smoothly, Mr. Fuan Cruise hired a security team.
I am part of that security team."
"Figures, like father, like son, all bastards who love stealing someone else's wife and child."
"Mr. Miller, please leave. Mr. Fuan Cruise does not wish for you to attend his engagement ceremony."
"I don't care what he wants. His son married my ex-wife, even encouraged my daughter to change her surname.
They, the Cruise family, want to steal away my lawyer daughter.
Daisy doesn't want to be close to me, doesn't want to help her brother, surely it's her mother and the Cruise family pulling the strings.
My son ends up in jail, my life in shambles, while that old codger of the Cruise family still thinks about getting engaged.
Do you think this world is fair?"
