Chapter 650: The End, Return to the Federation, Clearing Up
"MI6 is demanding that we hand the person over to them?"
Upon Kunniel's words, Mona's eyebrows shot up, and she almost laughed out loud.
Since the end of World War II, the British Empire had declined from the empire on which the sun never set, gradually becoming the empire that the sun never rose over, rapidly sliding towards an empire that couldn't rise at all.
Mona, who enjoyed perusing databases of major law enforcement agencies, was crystal clear about this matter, therefore she didn't harbor the ordinary Federal person's "Shakespearean fantasy" towards the Kingdom of England, she even somewhat looked down upon it.
This was also another reason why Mona and Caroline didn't get along; Caroline was always fond of the British Empire, enjoyed attending art exhibitions, auctions, and the like there, hence the two women had argued over this matter many times in the past.
Luo An, on the other hand, appeared indifferent. It wasn't that he had expected this, but such statements fit the style of certain British Empire government officials.
Post-war, the British Empire's economy and politics stumbled, but as a once-dominant world power, many Britons were still basking in the past glory, believing "outside London was just countryside."
After all, you can't wake someone pretending to sleep; even worse, they might enjoy this pretense.
"Thinking I'd hand over the person..."
Luo An crossed his arms over his thighs and looked at Kunniel, asking:
"Did MI6 mention any conditions for the exchange?"
"They did mention a few, like they could give us some intelligence and information."
Kunniel smiled and said:
"However, they'll only hand over this information after we've handed the person over to them."
Luo An let out a sarcastic laugh, shaking his head speechlessly, unwilling to deal with those members of the British Empire government, so adept at stirring trouble and mixing fish with fowl.
However, some things still needed to be discussed with MI6, such as the arms under Sarls' control.
Seeing Luo An completely unconcerned about so-called MI6, Kunniel concealed his amusement with difficulty.
When they first met with Roland, Roland had stated that the CIA was unaware of the exact locations of Sarls' arms caches.
That was total nonsense; later Luo An asked Mona to thoroughly investigate in the CIA's databases, and soon Mona found lots of information related to Sarls, including some locations of his arms depots.
Before the operation began, the CIA had discussed with Luo An the distribution of benefits after the case's conclusion.
Therefore, the discussion didn't take long; calculating according to the black market prices, Sarls' total underground arms worth was around 5.7 million US dollars. Kunniel didn't hesitate to agree, after all, MI6 would be the one to foot the bill in the end.
As for whether to hand Sarls over to MI6, Luo An and Kunniel tacitly did not discuss.
"The money will be transferred within two months."
After the discussion was over, Kunniel extended his hand for a handshake with Luo An, who smiled and then turned his gaze to Roland who was standing aside, asking:
"How's Leonardo?"
"He's fine, currently resting."
Roland hurriedly answered Luo An's question, his eyes full of admiration and gratitude.
What Luo An did was simple; he handed Leonardo over to Roland, letting him take Leonardo to meet with his superior.
Leonardo had a unique identity and could play a significant or minor role, all dependent on who used him, and the CIA were the veterans in this game.
As the agent who delivered Leonardo to the CIA unscathed, coupled with Luo An's deliberate praise and the CIA's intention to curry favor with Luo An, after this operation, Roland would definitely be able to leave field operations behind and enter management.
Outside the meeting room, in the corridor, Kunniel left first. Sensing the emotional perception in his mind—detecting Roland's rapidly increasing positive feelings—Luo An's mouth curved into a slight smile as he shook hands with Roland, saying:
"Next time you're back in the Federation, we'll go out for a drink together."
Since Luo An and the others were with the FBI, they naturally had to return to the Federation after the mission, while Roland had to continue to stay abroad.
"Definitely!"
Roland nodded solemnly, then suddenly he seemed to have thought of something, he stealthily took out a metal box from his pocket and passed it to Luo An, whispering:
"Inside are twenty defective positioning chips.
These defects don't mean that they can't be used, it's that their signal transmission frequencies are a bit unstable; hence they've been discarded by the CIA's technical department.
But this also means that they can be modified, as long as you find a professional, you can change them into a frequency that only you can receive."
Once modified, they would become positioning equipment exclusive to Luo An.
To FBI work, this feature seemed to offer little help, but Luo An's eyes shifted as he thought of some possibilities, and silently pocketed the metal box.
After a brief chat, Luo An turned to leave with Mona, heading to a nearby building to meet up with Winslow and others.
Vireness had already contacted the relevant personnel to arrange a flight, expected to depart in three hours.
Everything went smoothly, and by 7:30 in the evening, the plane arrived at an airport in Washington D.C., where all agents from Team 13 alighted, got into the cars arranged by Vireness, and started heading towards the FBI Washington Headquarters.
Half an hour later, the familiar headquarters building loomed before them; Winslow and Reesi handed over Sarls to the temporary detention facility, while the remaining team members temporarily returned to the office area of Team 13 to stand by, Luo An went to Vireness' office.
"Nice work, Luo An."
In the office, upon seeing Luo An's familiar face, Vireness couldn't stop praising him while also feeling a slight relief.
Due to concerns about the leakage of information such as traces, operation plans, etc., Luo An had not contacted Vireness ever since they left the hotel in Texas and traveled to Bar X, during which time the cell phones of all Team 13 agents had their batteries removed.
As a result, during that time, Luo An and his team were incommunicado at the FBI Washington Headquarters.
Before the operation, Luo An had left an emergency contact method for Vireness, indicating that as long as he didn't make that call, it meant he was safe and no problems had occurred.
However, Vireness, unable to get in touch with anyone, was still uneasy and her temper had become slightly more irritable these days.
Seeing Luo An return safely, Vireness finally let go of the weight in her heart and began to inquire about the details of the case as usual.
"...And that's what happened, Chief."
Luo An took a sip of coffee from the desk and raised his eyebrows, silently thinking to himself that the coffee here at Vireness' was indeed the best, he smiled as he put down the cup and said:
"Sarls has been captured by us, Roland Special Union and MI6 are negotiating the matter regarding her mother.
Besides, Sarls has no children, no partner or love interest, so this matter should be at an end now."
Vireness first nodded her head, and then shook it, saying solemnly:
"In the past two years, you have solved many cases.
Not only those who are solitary murderers, serial killers, but also a number of organized crime members.
Some of their organizations have not been entirely eliminated; you still need to be very cautious."
"I understand."
Luo An's expression remained unchanged; after what had happened with Sarls, he began to consider how to prevent similar incidents.
Luo An finally made up his mind to go through the cases he had handled with Mona, checking for any possibility of retaliation from other suspects.
"There's one more thing."
Vireness handed Luo An a folder:
"Your Team 13 office area is about to be cleared out."
