Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 651: Special Investigation Team Office Area

Luo An took the folder with a slight frown and asked:

"What does 'being cleared out' mean?"

Vireness chuckled and countered:

"Have you ever seen an agent from the Special Investigation Team, or their office area, in this building?"

Luo An was momentarily stunned. Prior to this, he hadn't paid close attention to this matter. It was only after Vireness mentioned it that he realized, although he knew about the existence of the Special Investigation Team, the agents from Team 13 hardly ever saw them on a regular basis.

Seeing Luo An's confusion, Vireness explained with a smile:

"The Special Investigation Team, as the name indicates, is formed for the purpose of dealing specifically with certain cases.

Most Special Investigation Teams need to collaborate with many other law enforcement agencies during their investigations, such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), etc."

Compared to other regular investigation teams, Special Investigation Teams are more like joint task forces that frequently coordinate with other law enforcement agencies' agents on a temporary basis according to specific cases.

The FBI will summon people from agencies like the DEA, and sometimes these agencies will also summon agents from the FBI, which means that most Special Investigation Teams have a very large number of members.

"The office space inside the FBI Washington Headquarters is very valuable, and it is not possible to provide so much space for so many people."

Vireness explained:

"So, these Special Investigation Teams have always been finding their own places and setting up their own offices outside to handle cases.

Over time, these Special Investigation Teams have basically gathered in one building, that is, the high-rise eight hundred meters west of the FBI Washington Headquarters."

After Vireness completed her introduction, Luo An had an epiphany. When he first came to the FBI Washington Headquarters, he passed by that building and wondered which company it was and why there was no sign.

Looking carefully at the documents, Luo An found that in addition to being requested to lead the Special Investigation Team to find a place to set up an office in that building, there was also an allotment for rent.

Since the building is owned by the Federal Department of Justice, these Special Investigation Teams still need to pay rent to work there.

The bulk of the rent is generally borne by the main department supporting the Special Investigation Team; Luo An and his colleagues come from the FBI, so naturally, the money is allocated by the FBI.

Additionally, the funding allocation in the document seemed quite substantial, roughly based on the office area size for 15 people. Luo An's Team 13 currently had only 6 members, including himself.

Considering the likelihood of temporarily drafting members from other law enforcement agencies for new cases, Luo An closed the folder and smiled at Vireness:

"Thank you, Chief."

Vireness smiled as she took a sip of coffee, and after chatting casually for a bit more, Luo An got up with the folder and returned to the Team 13 office area.

This operation to arrest Sarls had consumed a significant amount of funds, and Luo An still needed to compile a report for Vireness.

"Everyone has worked hard."

Winslow and Reesi had already returned to Team 13, and everyone was gathered and chatting; as Luo An pushed the door open and entered, attracting everyone's attention, he waved broadly and declared directly:

"You all have the next two days off, make sure to rest up!"

Winslow and Chenier's eyes immediately lit up, and Michelle's face was full of surprise, while Reesi exclaimed excitedly:

"Hooray! Luo An, you're awesome!"

Mona was also very happy, casually taking the folder from Luo An's hand, she immediately frowned slightly:

"Team 13's office area is being cleared out?!"

"What?"

Reesi's cheer paused mid-action, and Winslow and the others were taken aback. Luo An chuckled and waved his hand:

"Don't think too much, it's not a bad thing."

After hearing Luo An's explanation, everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief. Chenier started to inspect the details of the document with Mona, while Reesi, with a puzzled expression, said:

"Luo An, I have a question."

"Go ahead."

"Why do we always change locations?"

Reesi counted on her fingers and calculated:

"From New York's Team 5, to the Special Investigation Team in Los Angeles, then to Team 13 at the Washington Headquarters, and now to the Special Investigation Team.

It seems like we've never stayed in the same place for more than a year."

Luo An was likewise at a loss for words but then he said with a smile:

"Think of it this way, we've always been driving new cars and using new equipment."

Back in New York, Luo An earned a pile of equipment for Investigation Team Five, like laptops, new cars, etc., which all stayed in New York when he left the team.

While in Los Angeles, Luo An acquired even more for the Special Investigation Team—brand-new SUVs, weapons, and gear, and even tables and chairs.

Before leaving Los Angeles for Washington, he didn't waste any of those items, selling them all at a 10% discount to the leader of Investigation Team Four, Morton York.

Morton York was both helpless and speechless about this, because those tables and chairs, even the whiteboard, were initially given to Luo An under duress, and now Luo An had turned around and sold them back to them.

Later on, when Investigation Team Thirteen was established, all the equipment in the office space within the FBI Washington Headquarters building, like computers and desks, were allocated by Mr. Clement. Luo An only had usage rights, not ownership.

However, Luo An casually inquired just now, and Vireness indicated that all these equipments could later be taken to the special task force, no need for repurchasing, successfully saving a sum of money.

After some playful banter, everyone packed up their things and left the office area, driving back to their respective homes.

In a community on the northwest side of the FBI Washington Headquarters, in a three-story villa.

"Finally back."

After putting on her shoes and entering the living room, Mona flopped forward onto the sofa, her body went limp with a relaxed sigh:

"Home is really the best."

"Yeah, totally."

Luo An, having changed into slippers as well, chuckled and plopped down next to Mona, squeezing her off the couch and mused:

"I've been dead tired these past few days."

"?"

Mona, who was pushed onto the floor, paused for a moment, and after realizing what happened, grabbed a throw pillow and, with an unhappy face, bared her teeth and threw it at Luo An.

"No hitting! My bad!"

Luo An laughed and quickly raised his hands to block the throw pillow from Mona:

"My injury hasn't healed yet!"

During an earlier fight, Luo An was shot in the shoulder. Although the bullet had been removed and the wound bandaged, in order not to draw attention, Luo An didn't use the [Regenerative Potion] and the shoulder wound was still tightly wrapped in bandages.

"Hmph!"

Mona gave a light snort, remembering the incident, she never meant to use force, so she lightly thumped Luo An on the head with the pillow, then got up and headed to the kitchen, asking:

"What's for dinner tonight? I'll cook."

"How about going out to eat?"

"Too tired, finally back home, don't want to go out."

"How about beef and potatoes?"

"OK, I'll add two lamb chops too."

After they agreed, Mona took the lead in cooking with Luo An occasionally helping out, and soon they began enjoying dinner.

Opening a bottle of milk and checking that it wasn't expired, Luo An poured it into a cup and brought it back to the dining table, casually asking:

"Have you been in touch with Caroline recently?"

"Yeah, I have."

Mona, holding a fork and spearing a piece of beef, continued talking as she ate:

"She's currently looking into starting a company."

"What kind of company?"

"Seems like a fashion design company."

Mona replied:

"She wanted me to invest, but I didn't agree."

They chatted while eating dinner, and after finishing and resting for a while, they started heading to their rooms for the night.

The next morning, as Luo An was tinkering with the computer, he suddenly received a phone call:

"Good morning, Mr. Greenwood, it's me, Michael Brey. Do you have time? We need to meet."
