Chapter 142: We Both Know You Deserve To Die

"Do you think you can do whatever you want and go free? President Cole was a fool to let you go, or maybe he just didn't care... But no, I won't let you go free after what you did to my family," the man said, as he raised the gun, pointing it towards Arthur at first.

"We won't let it slide. Never. You deserve to die, just the way you have killed thousands of innocent lives," he added.

Arthur was shivering on the spot, covered in shock, terrified.

They had moved there mainly to prevent being seen, going as far as to buy a mansion in a lone countryside.

So how the hell did this man find him?

He couldn't hold his breath anymore when he noticed the man wasn't alone.

Before they could realise it, a considerable number of people approached the building.

Kael counted twenty-three, and it seemed like there were more of them.

They panicked at once.

Only one outcome could be expected from such: death.

If all these people had come here for revenge, then it was sure that Arthur and his son wouldn't survive today.

The man unveiled his mask right after, although it wasn't a familiar face.

Then he turned to Kael, pointing the gun towards his head.

"How about I kill your son first?"

"No, please. He's innocent. You can kill me, but please don't hurt him," Arthur cried, almost going on his knees.

"Well, that's impossible," the man said.

Another man approached them in no time.

"What are we waiting for? Let's burn them alive!" he shouted.

The man with the pistol suddenly acted like he was knocked by that idea, as he gave a wry smile.

"Good idea."

"No, no, no, please! Please, you can't do this!"

"Do what? You actually roasted thousands just because you wanted to build a megacity that wouldn't benefit anyone but yourself. You made our lives a misery. You murdered our loved ones..."

"If there is a more painful way to die than getting burned alive, that's what we would have done!" the man who had approached them said.

In no time, Arthur and his son were forced inside the building, and the crowd surrounded the house to make sure they didn't escape.

Soon, they poured fuel around, not minding to drop bountiful amounts, including on the cars in the compound.

"We are going to die, father," Kael cried, panicking.

Arthur couldn't even move his lips, and he was completely clueless about what to do at that point.

He watched the men light the fire from the window, and that was when the realisation dawned upon him.

Today, he was going to die for all the evils he had committed, and his only son would be dying with him.

No matter how hard he tried to accept it, it was inevitable.

With the attackers refusing to spare Kael's life, it was obvious that he would die there.

The fire began engulfing the whole building in no time, and it was only a matter of time before they got burnt.

"No, please. I don't want to die!"

"Father, please save me!"

All his life, his father had always been his saviour, but now, it was different.

Arthur couldn't even say a word, even when the fire already approached his legs.

There was smoke everywhere, choking and blurring... That alone could even kill before the main fire struck.

Kael had shouted for help at the top of his lungs for what looked like eternity, and suddenly gave up when he realised no one would hear him.

He settled finally, accepting the fact that he would be gone in no time...

All hope was lost. Down.

However...

What looked like a circular door suddenly appeared in the room.

A young man walked out at once, calm and collected as if he didn't notice the smoke and fire inside the room.

Without giving them a look, he said, "Are you coming or not?"

Kael and Arthur quickly stood up as they approached the door. Kael was the first to jump in, and just when Arthur was about to do the same...

The young man suddenly pushed.

"Not you," he said with a glare.

"What do you mean? The fire is gonna burn me to ashes. I thought you came to save me?" Arthur shouted.

"No, you are getting it wrong. I only came here... to save your son... one of the Chosen," the man said.

Arthur shook his head and attempted to enter again, until this time, he felt a hot substance pierce through his belly, causing him excruciating pain.

He bled at once after being stabbed by what he didn't even know.

"We both know you deserve to die, Arthur Roger. Don't worry, your son will be fine."

With that, the man entered the door, as it vanished immediately.

Arthur lay helplessly as he clutched his belly in pain.

It was already too late in no time, as he watched the fire approach and engulf his body.

"Arghhhhhh!!!"

That scream... It was a scream of death.

******

(Planet Nexus).

The tech portal opened in the grand alley, as two figures walked.

"You saved us. Thank..."

Kael paused and turned towards the direction of the portal, which had already vanished.

"Where is my father?" he asked, his eyes wide, worried.

"He couldn't make it. I'm sorry," the man said and walked forward.

"That's a lie. We both were close to each other before I went in first. It can't be true. Please tell me it's not true," he said.

"I'm sorry, Kael. The building came crumbling immediately after you entered. He couldn't make it, like I said," he said with a serious tone.

"No! I can't believe that. If the building really crumbled, then how did you suppose...? I clearly remember you came out of the portal," Kael asked, this time his voice stern.

However, the young man wasn't shaken.

"I'm one of the Absolutes... I can't be killed by the things of Earth," he stated with a casual tone.

It was then that Kael's eyes widened.

"Wait, what? We are not on Earth?" he asked, glancing around.

"No, Kael... Welcome to Nexus, where life is as good as it seems."
