Chapter 143: Kael Meeting Royce

Kael still couldn't accept the fact that his father couldn't make it. The more he tried questioning the man who had saved him, the more the possibility of getting an answer decreased.

And when he tried pouring out his mind...

"Please, can I go back?"

"No, Kael. You can't go back to Earth until you are ready. For now, you are just getting started," the man said.

He led Kael out of the alley as they appeared before a massive tech megacity right after.

Kael had his eyes widened, as he had never seen such a place in his life.

Not even the best city in the world looked halfway better than this.

It was... Unbelievable.

"Welcome to Nexus, Kael. I'm Raul, sent by The Grandmaster to bring you home, where you belong," the man said.

Kael appeared confused at one point and only nodded. And then he witnessed an unbelievable scene in front of him...

A young man slightly over his age walked out of a skyscraper building and thrust his hands towards the fast lane of the streets.

At that instant, a car emerged from nowhere, materializing on the spot.

He watched the man enter the car and drive off, then he turned to Raul.

"What the heck was that?"

Raul chuckled. "To us here, it's nothing. That's the power of technology at its peak. The power of the absolute."

Kael flinched. "That's magic."

"No. At some point, things don't look like magic anymore. When a world is at the exact peak of technology, magic is just an understatement," Raul replied.

"You can have that power too, Kael. You just have to be part of us," Raul added.

Kael gave him a sharp stare and shook his head.

They both walked through the bustling yet composed streets as they continued to converse.

"You are one of the Chosen, Kael. That's why you never died. Someone, somehow, came to save you."

"Then why didn't you save my father as well? Guess that's a bad impression on trying to make me join you, 'cause I'm not," Kael said with a stern tone.

"Your father's time was up. We both know he deserved to die, right?" Raul asked as he looked at Kael.

Kael left a strong scowl that made Raul look away, and he nodded, understanding that Kael was definitely finding it hard to accept that fact.

But that was the least of the worries here, actually.

Kael was needed to make up his mind to join the people of Nexus, as he would be included in the Sovereign Protocols.

"I think you have little to no choice of what to do now, Kael. Once you have the power of the absolute, you can do anything at will. You will know no stress and be free to go back whenever you want. It's better than being stubborn and not accepting this golden opportunity," Raul said.

Kael decided not to respond to that, but his facial expression had changed completely.

Just a moment ago, he was about to be burnt alive, because...

It was clear.

It was because he had no power.

"The power of the absolute would have gotten you a defense, and you would have saved your father," Raul said.

"The people of Earth want you dead. You are the last standing Roger... Would you like to die?" he then asked.

Kael hesitated for a moment before shaking his head.

"Good. Now grab this opportunity you have and do what's good for you. I'm sure you would be more motivated when you see him," Raul spoke.

"Who?" Kael asked.

"Me!"

At that moment, he suddenly heard a voice from the near distance.

He couldn't recognize the voice, but he could clearly recognize the face.

There, standing with several men surrounding him... Royce Nexuson was clearly seen.

Kael saw the man who was rumored to have died of hunger, standing strong with luxurious clothes covering him in prestige.

However, this Royce he was seeing had become way too different from the one he heard about... The one he had seen and heard his stories.

This one appeared more tough, sterner, and... Dangerous.

That aura of strict leadership...

He didn't even need someone to tell him that Royce had become some leader here, and when it was officially announced to him, he shrugged.

"Kael, meet Royce Nexuson... The Leader of the Sovereign Protocols," Raul announced.

'Royce Nexuson?' Kael's eyes widened.

'The motherfucker changed his surname!'

(Downtown Cloudbridge).

Lynna walked into a supermarket with a faint look on her face.

Walking past the crowded alley, she paid no heed to people trying to get her attention for greetings.

This was not the normal woman who liked to make friends... Rich friends who could become great assets to her financial life.

It was a different Lady Lynna.

Ex-girlfriend to her daughter's ex-boyfriend? That was making her go nuts.

It didn't take up to ten minutes before she walked back out of the supermarket, getting only a few items that would last her for a while.

She grabbed her phone and checked the contact app... With a sigh of frustration, she dialed the contact "Sweet Daughter" and watched the phone forwarding, her eyes eager and impatient.

"Pick up, sweetie. Please, pick up," she muttered in a praying tone.

However...

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

{The number you dialed is not available}

With great frustration, she angrily tossed the phone into her bag and headed home.

While walking half-minded on the streets, she didn't even know when a black SUV drove towards her.

Before she could realize it, three men rushed towards her and grabbed her by the arm. They were masked and agile, as expected of kidnappers.

She didn't have to be told that she was in trouble.

"Stop! Stop! Where are you taking me..."

Before she could even complete her statement, they wrapped her mouth with tape, rendering her speechless at once.

The SUV zoomed into the distance, and with a sack covering her whole head, she had no idea where she was being carried to.

She had heard news about people saying that she had up to fifty million dollars compensation fee for her contract termination with Zintech Automobile.

She figured that must have been why she was being kidnapped. They wanted the money, she guessed.

But the truth was that she didn't even get up to a million dollars, but anyway, who would want to listen to that?

Soon, the car stopped and she was led into a building with her face still covered.

She was sat in a chair, her heart jerking as she feared for her life.

She wouldn't want to die until she found her daughter and apologized to her for everything.

At this point in her life, it was the only goal she had left.

And then, it took a while before they decided to let the sack off.

Lynna was already sweating streams at that time, having no idea where she was but trying to stay strong.

She was just hoping they would let her talk so she could tell them that she had no money.

At first, it was the sack, and after that when she raised her head...

The whole perspective changed.

There, standing right in front of her, was her daughter... Sofia.

"Mmmm..."

She couldn't speak as her mouth was wrapped.

She watched Sofia give her an intimidating look. Sure, she expected every action from her and would accept it, but she still wanted to have her chance to say something.

But it appeared like she wouldn't see that chance.

"Hi, mother," Sofia said as she smiled.

"Mmmm..."

Sofia smiled. "How does it feel to see me still standing strong, huh?" she asked.

"You never thought I would survive, right?"

"Mmmm..."

"You know, I came to understand something about life after what you did. I discovered that no one is your friend in this world. We all came to this world alone to accomplish a mission, and no one, not even the one who gave birth to you, can help you in the slightest," Sofia said.

"Even the ones you love the most would betray you. They would ruin you just to accomplish theirs and let you die miserably," she added.

Sofia exhaled deeply, remembering every fragment of what had happened that very day.

"You pushed me to do things that almost ruined my life, all in favor of your own plans. You made me crawl back to Jayden, only to steal from me in the shadows."

"You stopped being my mother from that very day... You became my greatest enemy. You made me a growing monster," Sofia added.

"Mmmm..."

'Let me talk!!!' Lynna shouted inwardly.

But no one was hearing her out.

In a moment, Sofia brought out a pistol and pointed it towards Lynna.

"Mmmmm!!!"

Lynna strained hard, as Sofia sighed roughly.

"Let her talk," she told one of the men.

The tape was quickly removed, and Lynna appeared to be given a chance.

"Hear me out, sweetie. Please. I... I didn't know what I was doing. I feel like I was charmed, I never knew what I was doing until he... Until he fired me... Please believe me, daughter, I would never try to hurt you."

"Lies... There's no such thing as charms. You were charmed by a young, handsome man's body, and you were ready to do anything to have him for yourself, even though it meant breaking your own daughter into pieces," Sofia cut in.

Lynna's jaw dropped. She was about to say another word when her daughter unexpectedly pulled the trigger...

Just like that, like a fictional display.

TARR!

She murdered her own mother.
