Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 115: Hours in the Pyramid

"It has been how long again?" Cassius asked himself while sitting atop a small mountain of Mummy Demons. "Hmm… Although it feels like I've been here for ages, my digital clock skill would indicate that it has only been a little more than 2 minutes since I entered the Pyramid. How… unusual…"

He could've sworn that he had been slaughtering Mummy Demons and avoiding the temple traps riddled about for at least 15 minutes. But apparently, it had not even been a tenth of an hour.

Then again, this was certainly a good thing for him. After all, with the Yimin disaster outside subconsciously rushing him, he could not afford to waste any time. Every second counted, and if something were affecting the flow of time for him, then he would gladly accept the assistance.

Five minutes later.

The number of Mummy Demons that had been killed by Cassius had reached the hundreds of thousands. With his speed, hundreds fell to his Lilith each second, and if not for the massive inner space of the Pyramid, rivers of blood likely would've been formed from how many he had slain.

"Hmm…?"

While cleaving through a hundred Demon Mummies in an instant and improving his Demon King Bloodline rate past 15%, Cassius noticed something out of the corner of his eye. A few hundred meters due west of his location lay a shining corridor. The corridor itself was around the size of a normal human, and it had golden-bricked edges, clearly separating its importance from the rest of the dreary Pyramid décor.

Naturally, Cassius approached this door of sorts. He disappeared, then reappeared right next to it. Experience tales with empire

The first thing he did upon coming into contact with this bright door was test the waters.

He drew a random E-Rank Iron Sword from his Inventory Space and prodded the light. Half the sword entered through the door, producing no reaction from the door itself. And when the sword was pulled out, no visible damage was present on the blade's surface.

It was completely fine.

"Well…"

"Kakaka!!!"

A Demon Mummy moved many times faster than the speed of sound and lunged right at the seemingly absentminded human. However, with a single casual hand blur, the Demon Mummy was shredded into countless pieces, and it was done so without Cassius even so much as turning in the mummy's direction.

Cassius shrugged. "What was I saying again? I don't remember…"

He looked between the crappy sword in his hands and the shining door. "Ahh, that's right, this thing is totally safe to enter."

With that, Cassius walked through the cryptic door.

While unconcernedly moving his feet one step at a time, his entire body eventually vanished into the light. He didn't feel much discomfort, but the experience itself was certainly a surreal one. He almost felt like he was walking on clouds or something of the sort.

When a sudden enigmatic force tugged upon his body, he was forced through a layer of space. Again, it didn't hurt any, but it still felt extremely weird.

FWIP!

A short beam of golden light appeared on the 2nd floor of the Oracle Sphinx's Pyramid. When it dispersed, a shadowy hooded man appeared perfectly unscathed.

The moment Cassius opened his eyes, he saw a similar environment to where he just came from. However, just based on how low and narrow the walls of this place were, it was obvious to him that he wound up higher above. Presumably, it was the Pyramid's 2nd floor.

And just as predicted:

*Ding!*

{[Oracle Sphinx's Pyramid (2nd Floor)]}

—[1st Floor Clear Reward: 500 AP] - [✓]

—[2nd Floor Clear Reward: 5 Medium-sized Heaps of EXP] - [_]

"Ahh, I get it," Cassius said thoughtfully. "It's a floor-clearing situation."

Looking around, he realized that there were no slowly moving Demon Mummies. In fact, he didn't see much of anything except for rubble and evidence of the metallic paradise that this place had once been. According to his excellent deduction skills, this floor likely belonged to a higher class of people from whatever civilization used to reign supreme.

"Well, this is certainly something else," Cassius smirked, feeling a certain sense of exhilaration from this seemingly unfortunate predicament of his. "I've played games in the past, and the floor-clearing kind were definitely among my favorite. Though, if this is to follow the usual script, a new type of demon should be on this floor."

Just as expected…

"Skakeech!!!"

A giant mummified centipede-like Demon leapt from the cracked roof above Cassius, causing it to crack further. Yet, in the very same moment it attempted to bite the tiny human with its sharp pincers, he blurred as an afterimage.

With swift, precise movements, Cassius finger-flipped Lilith, obtained a better hold of her, then slid her jigsaw edges through the centipede's hard outer carapace. He and Lilith sparked around the Demon's colossal body, slicing off dozens of building-sized legs in the process of cutting it to pieces.

A moment passed.

*THUD!*

The centipede's lifeless corpse hit the rocky metallic ground with a resounding thud. None of its hundreds of legs were still connected to its body, and its still-sensitive carcass was left unnervingly twitching.

"I see…" Cassius mused while glancing at the whitish-orange system tag that hung above the rapidly disintegrating centipede corpse.

{[Tombcrawler (B++)]}

—[Most common monster on the 2nd Floor of the Oracle Sphinx's Pyramid. Has a hunting tendency to stick to any place that is not easily seen by other living organisms (typically corners of roofs or the roofs in general)]

"A B++ Rank Demon," said Cassius, slightly intrigued. "Compared to the B+ Demon Mummies, this one gave around 30 times more Demon Essence. If there's a lot of these in here, then I should come out with even more Demon Essence than what I got from the Pyramid's 1st Floor."

After coming to the conclusion that this area was extremely lucrative, he began his 'stroll' through this floor as well.

Every now and then, a large Tombcrawler similar to the first one jumped out at Cassius. Yet, it took little more than a couple milliseconds for him to dispose of each one. And after around 50 thousand repetitions of this, another five minutes had passed.

Altogether, this meant that a bit over eleven minutes had vanished since his arrival in the Oracle Sphinx's Pyramid.
