Chapter 65: Avalon here we go again!
After getting everything ready, Elizabeth, Rena, and Rossie teleported back to Avalon. It wasn't that hard; Elizabeth had been seeding portals and a teleportation network all over the world in preparation for the wedding after all.
So using one of those relays was easy enough, she didn't actually teleport into the receiving end, and merely used that as a way to jump farther away. Which proved to be the right answer, as Elizabeth found that the reception point of the teleportation node was set up within a secure facility.
It had all types of warding and shields, besides a full security staff scanning continuously all around, they had even included shadow users to make sure there wasn't a way to dodge their security...
Not that it affected Elizabeth, they merely clung to the superficial shadows of Zaanam, compared to Elizabeth that was one with the shadows? It was child's play to dodge them.
If anything it would be harder for her to make sure they noticed her, not that it was the point of this.
As Elizabeth merely sent one of her shadow dragons through the wards and defenses and got it outside the site, to her surprise the site was within Avalon.
So it made her travel even easier to deal with, as Elizabeth merely set up their receiving teleportation to be in one of her favorite parks near the city hall.
"And we are here," Elizabeth said as the three girls materialized from a shadow portal.
They got some complaints from people around that were waiting, something about skill users abusing their skills, and whatnot, the usual stuff from the elderly and the self-entitled people that just wanted to complain for the sake of complaining.
Not that Elizabeth paid them much attention, they weren't relevant.
"Hmm....I half expected to land in a high security facility when you said we were going to hitch a ride into the teleportation network that Aura and that new minion Sana are setting up," Rossie said, looking around and taking a deep breath, "Or they haven't set it up yet? They haven't been told about the teleportation network?"
"Oh they have," Elizabeth said smirking, "This is not the other side of that teleportation node, I just took us away since explaining to the high security facility how we got there would be annoying."
"So they did set it up." Rena said laughing, "They will not be happy when they find out their security was meaningless."
"When they find out?" Elizabeth asked, smiling evilly, "Why would they find out? I ain't telling them, are you?"
"Oh..." Rena said smiling too, "Fair point, my mistake, no reason to show our hands indeed."
That was more like it. Elizabeth liked how smart and quick-witted her girlfriends could get sometimes; they truly understood her the best.
"So, do we need to go to an specific building? Or will the city hall suffice?" Elizabeth asked as she pointed behind her, or to be precise, towards the direction the city hall on Avalon was.
"The city hall will suffice, if we were lower on the Tier ranking then I would suggest one of the branches, but since we will probably be marked as A-Tier at the minimum, then we need the City Hall," Rossie answered, "We could go to a branch, but we will get redirected to the city hall."
"Will they accept us without that reference though?" Elizabeth asked, Rossie just shrugged at the question.
And instead, with a devious impish smile (Rossie trademarked) she answered, "They will once they see our mana density and the amount of power we can generate from our Cores, then they will have no other option but to accept us as is." And that was a very fair point from the pink-haired girl, not that Elizabeth would have accepted it; she would more than likely turn them away, but that was Elizabeth, who was at the top of the power list.
"Then let's go." Elizabeth said and waited for Rossie and Rena to walk after her, she would not leave her girlfriends behind in an unknown park (To them), god knows what these pair would get up to!
Without her!
The mere idea made her shiver, was it of terror, fear or something similar? No one would ever know.
And with that out of the way, and Elizabeth's wild fantasies getting once more out of control, they walked forward towards the city hall, where, each time Elizabeth visited, something interesting always happened.
"Welcome to the City Hall, what can the Avalon civil servants do for you today?" A secretary welcomed them in as soon as they took a single step into the city hall, "Do you want to apply for a citizenship? That will be that line, if you want a working Visa then it will be that line, if you wish to buy property then you will need to return next week as we will start the auction for the vacated lots."
"I am a native actually," Elizabeth answered, "And I came because I need an evaluation ... Rossie, what do we want?"
Elizabeth gave room to Rossie since she was the one that actually knew what this was about.
"We want an evaluation and certification about our power ranking in the Tier list." Rossie said, taking a step forward and looking down at the receptionist, "I am aware of the services around the city that offer that service too, but those only have low-quality mana readers and those will not suffice."
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"They will not suffice huh..." The receptionist said looking first up and down at Rossie, then to Rena and lastly to Elizabeth, "Right... Well, we do have them, but unless you actually are gauged above rank A, you will need to pay the fee to use it, unlike the others on the multiple points around the city, which are free. The one here is only reservation and requires the activation fee."
"And the fee would be...?" Rossie asked with a slight smirk on her face, as if demanding for an outrageos number to be put forward. Rossie was, after all, quite affluent with money.
Not that Elizabeth was that far behind, not after she had gotten the money from what her parents left behind and what she got from Rossie before.
"If you end up as a F-Tier, you will need to pay 150 thousand, if you end up as E-Tier you will need to pay 100 thousand, D-Tier will require 50 thousand, C-Tier 25 thousand, B-Tier 20 thousand and A-Tier will mean it's free." The receptionist answered with a nonchalant expression, "That is per testing, in case you require multiple tests or you demand additional tests, the price will remain and your debt will only increase."
"Multiple testings?" Elizabeth asked, confused, "Are your readers that bad that we could require multiple testing?"
"... If we deem you need additional testing we will not charge it," The receptionist said back to Elizabeth.
"Then why would you say that the extra attempts would charge us?" Elizabeth pointed out.
"Eli-Eli... She means that if we ask for a second test." Rossie said from the side sighing, "Some... less mature people who think they will get better results here ask for multiple testing, stressing the equipment and themselves, so that is why they charge per attempt."
"... But if we get a high tier we will not need to pay." Elizabeth pointed out, "Why would we want multiple testings? That is just wasting time."
"We will get the higher tier, but other people will not and some can't deal with the fact that they are mediocre." Rossie said shrugging, "It is what it is."
"I see..." Elizabeth nodded in understanding, "I don't really get it, why would they burn money like that, it would be easier to go to one of those external sites and be referred."
"If you think so, I can give you the address..." The receptionist jumped in.
"We will get a higher tier so that is not needed, besides, we are already here." Elizabeth said shaking her head, "So what do you need, do we need to pay in advance?"
"No, we will lodge your information and file the bill to your credit information," The receptionist said shaking her head, "You will need to fill the forms..."
"Here," Rossie promptly gave the receptionist the three forms that had been filled previously, "Do check on if there is something missing."
"... Everything seems in order," The receptionist sighed, "Rossaline Singh, Watanabe Rena and... Elizabeth Starbright, correct?"
"Yes," "Yes," Yes." The three girls answered one after the next.
"One Avalon resident, and two from Britannia..." The receptionist said, "We can file Elizabeth easily enough, you two will need to sign a few extra documents to confirm you will work within the American Federation if you sign with us."
"That's fine," Rossie said as she accepted a new piece of paper and passed it to Rena, then took another one for herself, "We will have our address set up within Avalon so it is natural."
"I see, if you manage to get a high enough ranking we can offer you citizenship too," The receptionist said nodding, "With a B-Tier you can get streamlined access to the naturalization, with C-Tier we can offer a working visa, and sadly with D-Tier and above we can't offer you anything but an address for you to file the appropriate documents."
Elizabeth nodded at that, even if it wasn't pointed to her, she still understood where they had come from.
"Okay, so if you have all the information needed, where do we go to?" Elizabeth asked as the receptionist took the updated forms after Rossie and Rena signed them up with their updated information, that is to say, the address to Elizabeth's house.
"... you live there?" The receptionist asked, "... there is a house there?"
"My parents' house is there, yes," Elizabeth said, looking to see if the address was right, "My parents were somewhat... protective, so they left quite a few protection wards, not that they do anything to me."
"I see..." The receptionist said while writing something on her holopad, "Yes, it is registered under Elizabeth Starbrigth, it was updated five months ago... I see... we didn't get pinged for this on our system, thank you for updating it for us, some of the pre-Advent leftovers don't translate well to post-Advent..."
That was fair, or well, in Elizabeth's case it was more like her parents didn't allow for the wards and protections to be overwritten by the system's shenanigans.
Or well, Elizabeth doubted the current form that her parents had taken on was stronger than before advent, since nowadays they were limited by prana, and before they had no such limitation. Granted, if they took in the prana generated from Zaanam, they could probably eclipse their pre-advent forms...
But they would also be bound totally towards Zaanam, and Elizabeth knew that her parents would never do such a thing, well, Mother would never do it. Papa might do it depending on the situation, if that could guarantee the safety of Elizabeth and Mother, then he may do it.
He was that kind of man after all.
"Yeah, I was told the same from one of my teachers," Elizabeth answered too.
"Oh, you are a student? I thought that..." The woman said reading the files, "You got delayed a year?"
"No?" Elizabeth said confused, "I will graduate soon, or well I guess graduation was over?"
"It got delayed, Agatha said we would graduate no matter what, since your Mother would pester her if you got delayed a year," Rossie answered, "But we can deal with that whenever we are done, or we can ask her to get our diplomas to the event?"
That was an option?
"There you have it." Elizabeth said to the receptionist.
"Agatha? Director Agatha? The Director of the Mystic Powers Institute?" The receptionist asked, "That Agatha? The Acolyte of Magic?"
Acolyte of Magic?
"Wasn't she [The Survivor of Walpurgis Night]?" Elizabeth asked confused.
"Her title changed when people noticed that she had a direct line towards [Odyssey]." Rossie said from the side, "It is fitting in some aspects, she is an acolyte of the mother of modern magic, and she is the director of one of the premier schools in the world."
"Didn't we have others?" Elizabeth asked confused, she knew there were a few more schools available, somewhere.
"Not all adapted as well to the system, for one, most of the Villanous ones had issues when the students started abusing the skill system, some secrets couldn't be kept when hundreds of students grinded their skills against the security measures." Rena answered this time, "Imagine how the schools took that."
"I can imagine," Elizabeth said laughing, "So they got screwd extra hard by the system, but Agatha adapted well? I thought the MPI had some issues."
"They had them yes," The receptionist said from the side joining back into the conversation and standing up, giving each girl a card with a number at the back, "But when most of the council died in a mana burst accident during the last year tournament, your new director took the reins of the school and put it back in track."
Mana burst accident?
Oh....When Elizabeth summoned Nyx to screw over Akira....
Nyx did... kind of kill all the annoying people there didn't he?
"So that was why Lady Agatha, the new director, took the reins of the school, and since she had direct access to [Odyssey], something not even the high-class clerics and bishops had, they couldn't contest the authority she had." The receptionist said nodding yet again, opening a door into a waiting room, "Here is the waiting room, your numbers will be called on that screen."
The receptionist pointed to a huge screen, the waiting room had some vending machines, a couple comfortable looking sofas and other two people already waiting.
"You can go together or one by one, since you three are registered as a group you may go together." The receptionist said pointing to the cards she had given them, "Best of lucks, after the test is done the staff here will give you the invoice and you can go to your favorite bank to pay it."
...But they wouldn't pay anything since they would get high tiers there.
"Thank you," Rossie said before Elizabeth could say anything. "Will we need to fill anything else?"
"Not unless you end up as an S-Tier," The receptionist said laughing, "In which case we will require some additional information... if you want to give it to us that is, not like we can force a S-Tier to anything."
"Right," Rossie said laughing too, "I imagine you don't get many of those."
"No, better that way, we have nine registered worldwide, suspicious of another twenty or so...and that are too many," The receptionist said sighing, "Best of luck, I hope you get a high enough tier."
And like that, the woman left them, the other people waiting with them ignored them, and that was better for Elizabeth, honestly she didn't want to deal with entitled young masters and whatnot cliche there were in these situations.
One of the people waiting did look like a template annoying young master, while the other seemed to be stressed about something. Elizabeth refrained from [Identifying] them for now. If they stirred some problem she would, but for now...
"Shall we pick a sofa?" Elizabeth said to her girlfriends.
"Of course, do you wanna go together Eli-Eli? Or should we go one by one?" Rossie said as they walked to the sofa further away from the other testing applications.
"I think that we should go as a group," Rena chimed from the side, "That way will make it faster."
"I'm with Rena, better as a group." Elizabeth said nodding.
This would be interesting.
