Chapter 138: the dungeon of wish and terror

The day after their heartfelt farewells. The sun is high in the sky, casting a warm light over the bustling city streets. Dakota, Henry, Lucas, Ava, Mia, Jack, Liam, Amelia, and Luna walk together, their spirits lighter than they'd been in days. Despite the challenges they faced, they're determined to enjoy a rare moment of peace.

Lucas: (stretching his arms above his head) "I don't know about you guys, but I could eat an entire buffet right now."

Ava: (grinning) "When could you not, Lucas?"

Mia: (teasing) "Let's just hope this restaurant can handle your appetite."

Liam: (smirking) "If not, we'll make him wash dishes to pay for the damages."

The group laughs as they approach a cozy-looking restaurant nestled between tall buildings. The sign above the door reads "Silver Spoon Diner," and the smell of freshly cooked meals wafts through the air.

Amelia: (looking up at the sign) "This place looks nice. Not too fancy, not too plain. Perfect for us."

Luna: (smiling softly) "I could use some good food after everything. Let's go in."

Inside the diner. The group is seated at a large, round table near a window. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with soft chatter from other patrons and the clinking of plates in the background. A cheerful waitress hands out menus, and everyone begins scanning the options.

Jack: (looking at the menu) "Alright, what's everyone getting? I'm thinking a double cheeseburger and fries."

Henry: (nodding) "Burgers sound good. Maybe I'll add a milkshake, too."

Luna: (raising an eyebrow) "How are you not tired of eating burgers? You've had them like three times this week."

Dakota: (chuckling) "Henry's diet is 90% burgers, 10% regret."

Henry: (mock offense) "Hey! I'll have you know I'm very proud of my choices."

Amelia: (shaking her head with a laugh) "I'm going with something lighter. A salad and maybe some soup."

Mia: (excitedly) "Pasta for me! They've got fettuccine Alfredo, and I'm not missing out on that."

Lucas: (grinning at the waitress) "I'll take the biggest steak you've got. And fries. And a side of mashed potatoes."

Waitress: (writing it down, impressed) "Got it. You must be hungry."

Ava: (smirking) "Trust me, you have no idea."

The waitress takes the rest of their orders and heads off. The group begins chatting, their voices overlapping as they joke, reminisce, and discuss their plans.

As they wait for their food, the conversation shifts to lighter topics.

Liam: (leaning back in his chair) "So, what's the plan now? Are we just going to lay low for a while?"

Dakota: (shrugging) "That's the idea. We've earned some downtime. No dark mages, no battles… just normal life for a bit."

Ava: (grinning) "Normal life? What even is that anymore?"

Lucas: (nodding) "She's got a point. Normal for us is fighting for our lives and somehow making it out in one piece."

Mia: (playfully) "Maybe we should redefine what normal means. Like eating more pasta and less stress."

Amelia: (smiling) "I'll toast to that."

Their food arrives, and the group digs in with enthusiasm. The table fills with laughter as they swap stories about their previous battles, teasing each other about their quirks and habits.

Henry: (between bites) "Hey, remember when Lucas tried to swing at that dark mage and missed completely? He fell flat on his face."

Lucas: (defensively, his mouth full) "I still landed the next hit! That counts for something."

Luna: (smirking) "Sure it does, Lucas. Sure it does."

The group continues eating, the warmth of their camaraderie filling the air. For the first time in what feels like forever, they're able to laugh without the weight of impending danger looming over them.

As they finish their meals, the group leans back in their chairs, satisfied and content. The hum of a television in the corner of the diner catches their attention. The news is on, and the anchor's voice is clear and serious.

News Anchor: (on the TV) "Breaking news just in: A mysterious dungeon has appeared in the outskirts of the city. This dungeon has been classified as the most dangerous humanity has ever encountered."

The group's chatter stops abruptly. They all turn to look at the screen, their expressions shifting from relaxed to serious. Well except for Dakota's.

News Anchor: (continuing) "Experts and heroes have confirmed that this dungeon's aura is unlike anything seen before. Initial attempts to enter the dungeon have failed, with adventurers reporting that the entrance emits a barrier of immense power. Further investigations are underway, and authorities are urging the public to stay away."

A grainy video plays, showing a massive, dark structure with ominous energy swirling around it. The scene is chaotic, with reporters standing at a safe distance as the barrier shimmers, preventing anyone from approaching too closely.

Ava: (breaking the silence) "Well… so much for normal life."

Liam: (grimly) "That doesn't look like any dungeon we've ever heard of."

Jack: (leaning forward, his jaw tight) "Most dangerous dungeon humanity's ever seen? That's not exactly a comforting thought."

Mia: (nervously) "Do you think we'll have to… you know… go there?"

Henry: (his tone serious) "If it's as bad as they're saying, it's only a matter of time before we get dragged into it."

Dakota (thinking): "...so it has finally appeared huh... The dungeon of wish and terror.

The group exchanges uneasy glances, the mood at the table noticeably heavier than before. The rest of the diner remains oblivious, the patrons continuing their meals and conversations as if nothing had changed. But for the group, the appearance of this dungeon feels like a storm brewing on the horizon.

The screen cuts back to the anchor, who signs off with a somber tone.

News Anchor: "We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available. Stay safe, everyone."

The group pays their bill and leaves the diner, the news lingering in their minds like an unspoken weight. As they walk down the street, the once-lively atmosphere feels quieter, as if the world itself is holding its breath.

Lucas: (trying to lighten the mood) "Well, at least the food was good, right?"

Ava: (smiling faintly) "Yeah. Best meal I've had in a while."

Despite their attempts to return to their earlier cheer, the group can't shake the feeling that their lives are about to change once again.

As they part ways for the evening, each of them can't help but glance back at the diner, where the news had brought them face-to-face with the next chapter of their journey.

Dakota: "... Well it has finally come, I have been waiting for this moment since I got to this world... The dungeon of wish and terror. The best and worst thing happened to the people who had gone In there. But we will definitely enter there... And when we leave... We definitely won't be the same anymore, in anyway shape or form.
