Chapter 137: Farewells and Fractures

The aftermath of the battles. The sun begins to set, casting an orange hue over the forest as Dakota, Michael, Emily, Mila, Ethan, and Alex regroup near a clearing. Their expressions are a mix of exhaustion and relief. Victory came at a cost—they all carry bruises and cuts, reminders of the intense fights they endured.

Emily: (smiling faintly, breaking the silence) "Well… we did it. I can't believe we actually managed to win."

Mila: (sitting on a nearby rock, holding her side) "Barely. If we're being honest, I thought I wouldn't make it through. But here we are."

Ethan: (grinning) "You always pull through, Mila. You're tougher than you think."

Michael: (leaning against a tree, his tone light but tired) "And now, we can finally breathe for a second. No more bad guys. For now, at least."

Alex: (crossing his arms, glancing at Dakota) "Yeah, but something tells me this isn't the end of all this madness."

Dakota stays quiet, staring at the horizon, lost in thought. The wind stirs the trees around them, the rustling leaves the only sound for a moment. He clenches his fists, knowing the words he's about to say will change everything.

Dakota: (finally speaking, his voice steady but tinged with sorrow) "Guys… I need to tell you something."

The group turns to him, their expressions shifting to curiosity and concern.

Emily: (tilting her head) "What is it, Dakota?"

Dakota: (pausing, then sighing) "I'm sorry, but… I have to leave. We have to leave this school."

A heavy silence falls over the group. Emily's eyes widen, Mila's mouth parts slightly in shock, and Alex frowns deeply. Ethan looks between them all, trying to understand what's happening.

Ethan: (confused) "Wait, what do you mean? Leave? Why?"

Michael: (narrowing his eyes at Dakota, his voice firm) "Is this really necessary?"

Dakota: (nodding, his tone resolute) "Yes. I can't explain everything, but it's something we have to do. I wish I could stay, but this is the only way."

Mila: (her voice rising slightly, her hurt evident) "After everything we just went through together, you're just going to leave? Just like that?"

Dakota: (his expression pained) "I don't want to, Mila. Believe me, if there was any other way, I'd stay. But this… it's bigger than me. Bigger than all of us."

Emily: (stepping closer, her voice soft) "But you're part of this team, Dakota. You don't have to face whatever it is alone."

Dakota: (shaking his head) "It's not about being alone. It's about doing what's right, even if it hurts."

The group falls silent again, the weight of Dakota's words settling over them. Finally, Michael steps forward, placing a hand on Dakota's shoulder.

Michael: (sincerely) "If this is what you need to do, then do it. We'll miss you, Dakota. But I trust you know what you're doing."

Alex: (grudgingly) "Yeah, well… just don't forget about us, okay?"

Ethan: (smiling faintly, though his eyes glisten with unshed tears) "Like we could ever forget a guy like you."

Mila: (looking away, her voice barely above a whisper) "You better stay safe, Dakota. Promise me that."

Dakota: (smiling sadly) "I promise. All of you."

Scene shifts to Henry's group—Elena,Marcus,Theo, Clara. They're gathered near the edge of the clearing, speaking quietly among themselves when Henry approaches, his face heavy with emotion.

Henry: (addressing them, his voice unsteady) "Hey… I need to talk to you guys."

They turn to him, their expressions instantly shifting to concern.

Elena: "What's wrong, Henry?"

Marcus: (narrowing his eyes) "You look like you've got bad news."

Henry: (nodding slowly) "I do. I… I'm leaving."

The words hang in the air, their finality sinking in. Theo's eyes widen in disbelief, and Clara takes a step back, shaking her head.

Clara: (almost whispering) "Leaving? Why?"

Henry: (looking down, his fists clenched) "It's complicated. I can't explain everything right now. But I have to go. I'm sorry."

Elena: (her voice breaking) "Henry, you can't just drop this on us! What about everything we've been through? What about us?"

Theo: (his tone sharp, though his hands tremble) "You're just going to walk away? After everything?"

Henry: (looking up, tears threatening to spill) "I don't want to. Believe me, this isn't easy for me. But this isn't about what I want. It's about what I have to do."

Clara: (stepping forward, her voice softer now) "Then promise us one thing. Promise you'll come back."

Henry: (nodding, his voice trembling) "I...

The final moments. Dakota and Henry stand side by side, their respective groups behind them. The forest is quiet now, the weight of their goodbyes hanging heavily in the air.

Dakota: (turning to his friends) "Emily, Mila, Michael, Ethan, Alex… thank you. For everything. You've all been amazing. I'm going to miss you."

He steps forward, giving each of them a firm handshake or a brief hug. When he steps back, his eyes glisten with unshed tears.

Emily: "...for some reason Dakota... I feel like we have known each other for a long time. Just as long as Michael, and you two are kind of similar. But we will all Miss you even though we barley met you. Goodbye Dakota.

Ethan, Alex, Mila, and Michael said their goodbyes too.

Dakota: (his voice cracking slightly) "Goodbye."

Henry turns to his group, his shoulders slumping as he takes a deep breath.

Henry: "Elena,Theo,Marcus,Clara… I'm going to miss you guys so much. I'll never forget what we've been through together. Thank you for everything."

He hugs each of them tightly, his voice breaking as he speaks.

Henry: "Goodbye."

And with that, they have broken out of the illusion world, since they defeated all of the dark mage's. They only had a few minutes until the illusion world got deleted, so they had to say their goodbyes quickly.

Henry: (his voice trembling as tears stream down his face) "I… I didn't think it would hurt this much."

Dakota leans against a tree, his shoulders shaking as silent sobs escape him.

Dakota: (whispering) "I never thought I'd see them again… and now, I'm leaving them again. It's not fair."

Henry looks at Dakota, his own tears falling freely.

Henry: "...I wish I could see them again."

Dakota nods, though his tears continue to fall. The two stand there for a long moment, their shared grief bonding them even more deeply as they prepare to face the uncertain future ahead.
