Chapter 124: a strange feeling(2)

The chaos of the larger battle faded into the background as Mia and Milla faced off, their gazes locked in fierce determination. The forest seemed to close in around them, isolating their fight from the rest.

Milla (calmly, smirking):

"You seem pretty confident. Let's see how long that lasts."

Mia (frowning):

"I don't need confidence to beat you. Just skill."

Without waiting for a response, Mia lunged forward, her movements quick and precise. Her first strike aimed for Milla's midsection, but Milla sidestepped with ease, retaliating with a sharp kick that Mia narrowly dodged.

Milla:

"Fast, but predictable. You'll need more than that."

The Fight Intensifies

Mia adjusted her stance, determination flaring in her eyes. She attacked again, this time feinting left before aiming a low sweep at Milla's legs. Milla jumped effortlessly, countering with a downward strike that forced Mia to roll away.

Mia (gritting her teeth):

"You talk too much."

Milla (grinning):

"And you're too slow."

The two clashed repeatedly, their movements fluid and relentless. Mia's strikes were fast and controlled, each one aiming to exploit a weakness in Milla's defense. But Milla's reflexes were sharp, and she seemed to anticipate Mia's every move.

As the fight dragged on, Mia couldn't shake the nagging feeling at the back of her mind. Something about Milla felt familiar, but she couldn't place it.

Mia (thinking):

"Why does she seem so... recognizable? And not just her. Dakota's whole group. There's something off about all of them."

Her distraction cost her. Milla took advantage of Mia's hesitation, landing a solid blow to her side. Mia stumbled but quickly recovered, her expression hardening.

Milla (mocking):

"Lost in thought? You can think all you want after you lose."

Mia narrowed her eyes and charged forward, her strikes becoming more aggressive. She feinted high, forcing Milla to block, before spinning and aiming a kick at Milla's side. This time, it connected, and Milla staggered slightly.

Mia:

"Guess I'm not as slow as you thought."

Milla (laughing):

"Not bad. But don't get cocky."

Milla recovered quickly, her movements becoming even more unpredictable. She closed the distance between them, forcing Mia into a close-quarters struggle.

Milla suddenly grabbed Mia's wrist, twisting it just enough to make Mia wince and drop her guard. With a swift motion, Milla swept Mia's legs out from under her, sending her crashing to the ground.

Milla (smirking):

"Looks like this is over."

But Mia wasn't done yet. She rolled to the side and pushed herself back to her feet, breathing heavily but refusing to give up.

Mia (glaring):

"Not even close."

Mia launched another flurry of attacks, each one more desperate than the last. But Milla remained calm, deflecting and countering with ease.

Milla (coldly):

"You're fighting like someone who doesn't know what they're up against. It's almost sad."

With a sudden burst of speed, Milla closed the gap between them again, catching Mia off guard. She landed a powerful strike to Mia's chest, sending her sprawling to the ground once more.

This time, Mia couldn't get back up. She lay on the forest floor, gasping for breath, her body refusing to cooperate.

Milla (standing over her):

"You fought well, but you were never going to win."

Milla's tone wasn't mocking anymore. If anything, it sounded almost... regretful.

As Mia struggled to sit up, she finally gave voice to the question that had been nagging at her.

Mia (hoarsely):

"Who... are you? Why do you and the others... feel so familiar?"

Milla froze for a moment, her confident demeanor faltering.

Milla:

"Familiar? That's interesting."

Milla turned away, as if debating whether to say more.

Milla (quietly):

"Maybe you'll figure it out someday. Or maybe you won't. Either way, it doesn't matter."

Mia clenched her fists, frustration and confusion swirling in her mind.

Mia:

"What does that even mean? Do you know me?"

Milla didn't answer. Because she didn't know what Mia was talking about Instead, she rejoined Dakota and the rest of their group, leaving Mia to stew in her thoughts.

Mia watched as the battle around her continued, her body too battered to join back in. But her mind was racing.

Mia (thinking):

"This isn't the first time I've felt this way. That sense of déjà vu… not just with Milla, but with the others too. And even this place... the school. What is going on?"

Despite her confusion and the sting of defeat, Mia couldn't shake the feeling that she was on the verge of uncovering something important.

As she sat there, catching her breath and trying to piece together the fragments of her memories, one thing became clear: she couldn't let this go.

Mia (thinking): ah man, what the hell is this world, why is it so familiar... Just what kind of a situation did we get into now, we can never catch a break huh.

Mia who was laying on the ground sighed, and was looking up at the sky, thinking about things. She wonder why she was feeling déjà vu… but she couldn't figure it out... It felt like something was blocking her to not remember, like a seal.

Mia (thinking): ...nah no way, a seal? Why would anyone seal my memories? And how could they even do that? I was always will my parents or my friends. I was barley alone so there Is no way that somebody could actually seal my memories right? Or maybe somebody is manipulating my feelings in order to feel like this... But wait this world doesn't have magic, so this can't be possible... Oh for fucks sake this is too tiering for me. I'll just rest here and watch the others fight, but those people from Dakota's group are really good fighters... And they work together really well too... Even though today is the first time they're working together, that is strange.

The fight may have ended, but the questions it raised were far from resolved. For Mia, the battle with Milla was only the beginning of a much larger mystery—one that tied Dakota's group, the school, and her own past together in ways she couldn't yet understand.
