Chapter 123: a strange feeling(1)
The forest was alive with the sounds of nature—leaves rustling, birds chirping, and the faint crunch of boots on the forest floor. Henry and Lucas stood side by side, their respective groups exchanging wary glances. Despite their newly formed alliance, tension crackled in the air.
Lucas (crossing his arms):
"Alright, here's the plan. Henry's group will head for the relic while we hold off Dakota's team."
Henry nodded but kept his gaze fixed on the shadows between the trees.
Henry:
"Not quite. I'm staying here. You'll need me if we're going to stop Dakota."
Jack (stepping forward):
"Then I'm staying too. Someone's got to watch your back."
Claire (frowning):
"Henry, are you sure about this? Splitting up weakens us."
Henry:
"We don't have a choice. You're the best chance we've got to secure the relic. Trust me on this."
Claire hesitated, then gave a reluctant nod.
Luna:
"You better not do anything stupid."
Henry (with a small smile):
"I wouldn't dream of it."
With that, Claire, Luna, Amelia, and the rest of Henry's group reluctantly turned and headed deeper into the forest, leaving Henry, Lucas, Ava, Mia, Jack, and Liam behind.
The silence stretched, thick and oppressive, until the sound of footsteps shattered it. Dakota's group emerged from the forest like shadows slipping into the light. Dakota led the charge, his expression calm but calculating. Behind him were Michael, Emily, Mila, Alex, and Ethan, their postures relaxed yet purposeful.
The two groups faced each other, the clearing suddenly feeling far too small.
Dakota (calmly):
"Well, isn't this a pleasant surprise. All of you, working together. How touching."
Lucas (stepping forward):
"Cut the talk, Dakota. You know why we're here."
Dakota tilted his head slightly, his lips curling into a smirk.
Dakota:
"Fair enough. But let me save you the trouble—you're in over your heads."
Henry (stepping forward):
"That's for us to decide."
With no further warning, the groups charged at each other, the clearing erupting into chaos.
Jack vs. Michael:
Jack and Michael moved with precision, exchanging a flurry of strikes and counterstrikes. Jack's quick reflexes allowed him to dodge Michael's attempts to overpower him, but Michael's strength kept jack constantly on the defensive.
Ava and Mia vs. Emily and Mila:
Ava and Mia coordinated their attacks seamlessly, forcing Emily and Mila to adapt. Mila used her speed and agility to dart between Ava's strikes, while Emily's sharp, calculated movements kept Mia at bay.
Liam vs. Alex:
Liam's endurance proved a match for Alex's brute strength. They grappled and exchanged blows, each testing the other's limits with every strike.
Henry and Lucas vs. Dakota and Ethan:
Henry and Lucas faced Dakota and Ethan in a battle of strategy and skill. Dakota's movements were calm and deliberate, as if he were always one step ahead. Ethan, on the other hand, fought with an unshakable confidence, his attacks relentless and precise.
Ethan (grinning):
"You've got some guts coming after us. Too bad it won't do you any good."
Lucas (gritting his teeth):
"We'll see about that."
Lucas launched himself at Ethan, their blows landing with a speed and ferocity that made the forest echo. Meanwhile, Henry circled Dakota, looking for an opening.
Dakota (smirking):
"Planning something clever, Henry? Or are you just stalling?"
Henry (narrowing his eyes):
"Why don't you find out?"
The groups moved like a chaotic dance, each member pushing themselves to their limits.
Despite their combined efforts, neither side could gain the upper hand.
Lucas (panting):
"They're better than I expected."
Ava (dodging a strike):
"Focus! We can't let them break through."
Henry, still locked in with Dakota, felt his frustration growing. No matter what move he made, Dakota seemed to anticipate it.
Dakota (calmly):
"You're holding back. That's going to cost you."
Henry:
"Better than underestimating my opponent."
The clearing was a battlefield, the sounds of heavy breathing, grunts, and the clash of strikes filling the air.
Realizing the fight was dragging out with no clear advantage, Lucas glanced toward Henry.
Lucas (gritted teeth):
"This isn't working. We need to regroup."
Henry (shaking his head):
"Not yet. We can still turn this around."
Before Lucas could respond, Dakota's voice cut through the chaos.
Dakota:
"Stubborn as ever, Henry. But this game is far from over."
The groups paused momentarily, their gazes locked in a silent standoff. Both sides were bruised and tired, but the fight was far from finished.
The battle between the two groups remains unresolved, each side unwilling to back down. The clearing stands as a silent witness to their clash, the tension only growing as both sides prepare for what's to come.
Lucas (thinking): hm this guy for some reason reminds me of myself, I mean his fighting style looks very similar to mine when I'm not using magic, and his personality is like mine too... And it feels like I have met all this people who are with Dakota before... But this is impossible, I mean we are both from different worlds... But when Dakota saw them for the first time... His reaction wasn't normal.
Lucas (thinking): when he first saw them, his face lost all color, it was like he was seeing his nightmare come true. And when we first saw this school, I got this nostalgic felling, like I have been there for all of my life. And when I saw those guys I got a nostalgic felling too... Just what could this mean? Why was Dakota reaction like that when he saw them? Just what is he hiding? Maybe I can find out after this challenge is over... Or maybe after we get out of this world.
Ava (thinking): this girl seems familiar, and so does all the people with Dakota... And it looks like Lucas realized it to. And Dakota's reaction was weird when he saw them. and the nostalgic felling I got when I saw the school and them. Every time l look at them, it feels like I am forgetting something very important to me... And that Michael guy is weird... Why am I feeling like this when I'm looking at him, it's a feeling mixed with Anger... And love. Just what the hell is going on?
