Chapter 578: The Attendants
The journey to Black Castle was silent, but loud. It will only take a single minute of them to be late for Malice to succeed with her plan. She would take over Melissa's body and acquire her powers in its prime state.
"If her body does get taken over, what will become of your mom?" Connor asked.
Elliot shook his head. "I don't know, but I'm sure it won't be pretty. I could only assume that my mother would never rest in peace if that happens."
"Her soul will be trapped in an eternal prison state," Ed muttered. "I heard about it before. Body Takeover was a forbidden skill that's used by people to live forever. It was their own version of immortality."
"You've heard about this before?" Elliot asked. "When?"
"Trinidad and Frederick were talking about it a while ago. Even before we knew who she was. I spied on her because I felt an incredible presence around her," Ed said, looking down as he smiled sadly. "I just thought that it wouldn't really be important because they never mentioned Malice or Princess Melissa. They just talked about the skill."
"So, Malice would take over my mother's body and she will be trapped in a prison if that happens," Elliot muttered. "Just like all the daughters before her. I cannot let this happen."
"You can free them too, you know," Ed said. "Once you weaken Malice enough to make her lose control over her power of the Body Takeover, then all of the prisoners will be free and there's a high chance that their bodies would be manifested in this realm because their souls were locked bu their bodies were hidden by the Soul Collectors."
"The MVP of all of these are the Soul Collectors, I bet," Connor chuckled, which made everyone laugh with him. "So, our plan is to weaken Malice first. This will make her release the other souls and then we'll kill her."
"If I understand the concept, yeah, that is right," Ed said. "But if we kill her without her unbinding the souls, then the souls would be trapped there forever. And Malice would be there too whether we fail or not. It will be the price for her crimes."
"Then that's good," Elliot said. "Now, we all have to get ready. Malice is a candidate to become an Absolute. She's not something that we can defeat easily."
"You've said that to all our other enemies, yet look at us now," Lance said. "We'll get through this and we'll survive. And then well chocke Connor and then hang Hope up."
"Hey!" Hope growled and rolled his eyes.
A few more minutes later, the group stormed Black Castle and destroyed halls with their skills. Elliot, in particular, was focused on finding where Malice was hiding. He wanted to get to her as soon as he can and stop her from taking over his mother's body. He wanted to see his mother in real life again, and he wasn't going to sit idly."
"I'll go stall them here, you go there," Ed said when numerous guards approached them.
"Intruders!" the guards yelled and ran towards Ed. The boy only smirked before slashing his sword, creating a force of energy that blown the guards away.
"This is going to be easy for me," Ed said. "Their numbers do not mean anything!"
He jumped and spun in the air as he fired multiple slashes and defeated several guards all at once. He was fired up and he was easily annihilating the guards even when he was clearly outnumbered.
"Let's go," Elliot said while Hope crashed through walls. "What are you doing?"
"Connor and I will pass through here, your two go on ahead. We'll meet at the top."
Elliot nodded and he was followed by Lance to climb the stairs on the north wing while the other two climbed the south wing. He was wondering why there weren't so many guards inside the castle that it almost made him feel uneasy.
"We've seen these halls before," Connor said to Hope as they ran through the corridors of the castle. He was pertaining to the sneak attack that they tried to do to kill Malice along with Trick, but it was a failure.
"I think we're almost at the top of the castle, but this is not where the Princess's chamber is," Connor continued. "It is said that Malice frequented her daughter's chamber to comfort her while they both sleep."
"Hearing that now makes it disgusting," Hope said. "She doesn't love her daughter. She just loved the vessel that she saw her daughter as."
"You've started to become mature, Hope," Connor smiled. "That's good. Don't be like the other idiots. Become good and become more mature than them."
"You mean all of you?" Hope deadpanned, leaving Connor to chuckle awkwardly.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Ants."
They looked up to see a tall woman that was carrying a fan. She had a pitch black hair and a few strands covered her eyes while the rest were tied on a loose bun. Her eyes were blood red and her lips were also in the same shade. She had a peculiar pale skin that glistened under the moonlight from the window that she stood in front of.
"You boys, are you lost?" the woman giggled. "I think you're wandering around this castle like it's your own home. Why is that?"
"Who are you?" Connor raised his staff. "And what are you doing here? Are you one of the Vassals?"
"Those fools?" the woman laughed. "Of course, not. They were too many of them, yet all of them are useless. All they want was to take over the queen's position and kill her. I'm not like that. We are not like that."
"So, there's more of you," Connor sighed. "But then we don't really care because we're kind of in a hurry and we need to go to Malice and kill her."
"That's not going to happen!" the woman yelled. She raised her hand and a swirl of red liquid appeared on her palms. She smiled and growled, slamming her hand to the ground and making the liquid splash.
The red liquid jumped in the air, becoming shards that hardened and launching themselves to the two boys below. The woman laughed as she licker her lips. "Enjoy your gift!"
"Watch out!" Connor yelled, firing a powerful ball of flame to vaporizer all of the liquid. This made the woman groan and caused her to crack her neck to stretch it. "I assume this is going to be a tough battle."
"Carmina, calm down."
Another woman appeared from the darkness. She walked out of the pitch black shadows and walked beside the other woman with the blood magic.
This time, this woman was different. She had silver hair and her skin was not as pale. She looked like she just woke up, but the dark bags under her eyes said that she didn't get enough sleep. She walked towards Carmina and wrapped her arms around the other woman's waist.
"What is it Caroline?" Carmina muttered, almost in an angry tone. "Can't you see I'm busy? These intruders wants to kill the queen and as her attendants, we have to stop them."
"Attendants," Connor placed a finger on his chin. "They said something about a group of women serving Malice. I never knew that they were combatants too."
"Of course, we are," Caroline laughed. "Would you think we would survive the wrath of our lady if we were weak? She frequently destroys everything around her and that includes people. If we were weak, we would've been killed long ago."
"So they're undergone much worse training than of the Vassals," Hope gulped.
"They must be very dangerous," Connor said. "We have to know how many attendants there are and let everyone else know about them. They're strong and they can hold ground well."
"The reliable attendants are four in number," Caroline said. "Carmen the vampire, Caroline the Wraith, Crystal the Succubus, and Corazon the Sword."
"They're creatures that are not human," Connor said. "And their names oddly start with the letter C."
"Like yours," Hope laughed. "You belong with them, Connor the Infernal Lord."
"Connor..." Caroline trailed off like the words lingered on her lips for a brief moment. "I like that name. Would you be willing to be our servant too?"
"Not one bit," Connor laughed awkwardly. "I don't want anything to do with you guys nor that woman, Malice. She's making our friend go through this difficult time and I want nothing more than to burn my name on her face."
"Shame," Caroline sighed. "I wanted to get to know you more. I would later before I take your life. I'll destroy every limb in your body and watch as your soul slowky disintegrate into nothingness."
"Okay, then!" Connor yelled, slamming his staff on the ground. He created a flame ring that burned the shadows that sneakily approached them. "Your turn just ended. It's my turn now!"
