Chapter 492: Attack on Solaguer
Time seemed to pass by slowly inside the guildhouse. The once joyful mood of Viper's birthday celebration died down in a blink of an eye.
"Elliot?" Lance called out to his friend who was sitting on a corner, staring at the void with a blank expression.
"Hey," Connor pulled Lance's wrist. "Let him stare. He's not in the best mood right now."
"I know that," Lance sighed. "He doesn't want to be betrayed again, and he just did. But we can't let this stop us from moving forward. We have to find a way out of this."
"I have an idea," Elliot suddenly said, making his friends look at him. "What if we sneak out of here and find a way to locate Death?"
"That would be fine except from the part that he would kill the Trinity of Power," Lance said. "And maybe the entire population of Solaguer for that matter."
"But what do we do?" Elliot groaned. "Can't Irus and the other demons fight Death? They could gang up on him and defeat him. And us, our guild has the Eternals of the realms. Why can't we gang up on him?"
"He has hostages," Frederick was the one to speak this time. "If he doesn't have anything in his sleeve, we can easily take him down just like what we did to our previous enemies. But this time, it's hard because the fate of an entire city is in his hands."
"Not to mention that the city he keeps as hostage is the capital where the rulers live," Luck added. "The fate of this kingdom is in his grasp. One wrong move from us and he will kill everyone."
Elliot slouched back on the corner. He sighed and took a deep breath. "What do we know about Death, anyway? Skills, power, tricks up his sleeve?"
"A lot," Midnight and Daniel spoke at the same time.
The former chuckled and shook his head. "As the host of Leviathan and Saitan, we shared a part of their memories. These memories have Death and the other guards of the Forsaken."
"Spill them all out," Frederick said. "You could've just said that before and I wouldn't have let an old man make me wait for him to finish his job."
"Alright," Daniel said. "Midnight? If you will?"
The Den of the Forsaken, much like everything below Hell is completely chaotic. Apart from the rise of the number of Paragons, demons themselves are creatures of evil.
From this perspective, demons who make it to the ranks would serve the Forsaken. These demons have been through so much that they have absorbed the power of an entire city's worth of magic, these are the Guards for the Forsaken.
Unlike the Princes and the Sins who get their powers from the blood they share with the ruthless Absolute of the deep darkness, the Guards have climbed up the stairs of power through hardwork.
When they reached the level equal to a number of Princes and Sins, they are blessed by the Forsaken with even more power, making each one of them equal to three Princes and four Sins.
The Guards also do not interfere with politics and wars outside of the Forsaken's concern. It is only when the Forsaken is involved that they would act, making sure to get the job done without a second thought.
Perhaps the toughes part of being a Guard was the fact that when a new demon overpowers one of them, a Guard would be replaced immediately and the fallen Guard would be killed for the seed that the Forsaken implanted onto them would be transfered to the new Guard.
As the Princes and Sins were growing up, they haven't seen the Guard that much at all. The four Guards are strictly limited to the throne room to which none was allowed to enter unless they wished to die.
The only instance that the Guards would show up was the introduction. The Forsaken would introduce a Guard, show them to his children, and then lock the Guard inside the throne room.
For the history of the Den of Forsaken, only once has the Guards left the throne room to protect the Forsaken. It was when a group of Terrans invaded the Den, secretly collecting materials for whatever reason.
Leviathan, being the oldest of the Princes, was the first among his siblings to respond. There, he saw the Terrans being cornered by the Guards, but they escaped with an unimaginable speed. They flashed before their very eyes and left the Den altogether.
"When did this happen?" Elliot asked. "And Terrans? Don't tell me…"
"Pentos reached the Den of the Forsaken and actually met the Absolute," Midnight sufficed.
"I have heard of that before," Alice added. "And I always thought that they were joking, even the entire population of the kingdom has thought that they were joking."
"At least we know that Terrans are capable of standing up against Death," Frederick said. "Luck, prepare yourself. This is going to be a bumpy ride."
"What are you going to do?" Lance asked to which Frederick answered by ruffling his hair. "You can come out now."
The wooden was that the quest board was on opened like a secret door and seven people came out of it.
"I really hated going through the underground tunnels," Isabelle groaned. "Kian, take care of Jameson– oh, he did bump his head now."
"We're here," Ripple reported.
"Frederick," Elliot called out. "What's all this?"
"We're here today because I'm a man who has tricks up his harlequin sleeves," Frederick joked. "I secretly sent Ripple and Frost to collect people for us, and now they're here.
Francoise, Isabelle, Kian, Jameson, and Katarina all walked out of the secret door.
"How are you, Elliot?" Jameson greeted. "You're looking fine. Look at this."
Jameson threw a gem in the air, and suddenly it exploded into a bright light, showing a scene in Solaguer. Death was hovering above the city, raising both his hands over his head. "You shall all bow to me!"
Three figures leaped out of the crowd and faced Death. They were the three Guardians, Johnson, Gasha, and Miles.
"We won't let you, intruder!" Johnson yelled.
Death only smirked before boring a big hole in Johnson's stomach. The man couldn't even regenerate because there was a thick black mist around his wound, making it cursed.
He fell to the ground with a loud thud, eyes widened and his entire body frozen.
"Now," Death grinned. "Who's next?"
