Chapter 487: Sacrificed Power
Glitch traveled around the large spherical area of the tree that Elizabeth created. Every single person inside was swallowed by a translucent pod of flower.
"Elizabeth!" Glitch yelled and unsheathed his dagger. "Sonic Slicer!"
He blitzed through the entire tree and slashed straight through the pod Elizabeth was being swallowed by. There were mucus that hindered Elizabeth's consciousness, making the woman fall asleep before the pod could even fully consume her.
Glitch's dagger pierced through the pod and cut it into pieces, freeing Elizabeth from it. He then took the woman out of the tree and called for help.
It was hard if Elizabeth were to be the first one to be taken away because she was a key person in order to stop this tree from growing even further.
One step away from the tree and Glitch felt a force push him back inside. The boy fell to the ground after the strong impact, his eyes widened when he saw the transparent shield.
"We're trapped!" Glitch yelled in panick. He tried to force his way out of the forcefield, but it was no use. Every single time he would come in contact with it, he would be pushed back inside.
"I need help," Glitch said to himself and ran back inside. He had learned that the Mages were outside of their forcefield after he scouted the area three times. There were no other beings inside except for them.
"Florencia, Christina, Viper," Glitch took them out one by one. He then brought then back outside where a now woken Elizabeth stood. "Can you wake them up too? I need help."
"I can," Elizabeth placed her hand on their chests and purified the three. When they woke up, the three of them took long sharp breaths as if they were being pulled from the ocean.
"Are you okay?" Glitch asked. "But you have to be okay right now. I need your help."
"Why?" Viper was the first one to recover. His body was designed to resist poison, but this one had to be incredibly potent that it even worked on him. "What happened? One moment we were inside the tree, and the next thing we know is that we were being attacked by the vines."
"They intercepted my magic," Elizabeth said. "I saw the Mages hacking into the core magic of the tree before they took over. It was then that they attacked us."
"Why aren't you getting help?" Florencia asked she tried to step away but Glitch pulled her.
Elizabeth showed her what happens to something if they tried to take contact with the forcefield by demonstrating a flower vine being ripped into pieces as it was being blown away.
"Have you tried digging?" Christina asked. She formed a drill made of water around his forearm and she punched the ground. Her power was barely doing anything to the ground while it continued spinning. "What is this? It's tough."
"I also tried that," Glitch sighed. "There's nothing we could do until help arrives. We just have to wait."
"But we have the former Top Adventurer with us," Florencia pointed Elizabeth. "I'm sure she can do something about it."
"I can't," Elizabeth sighed. "My offensive capabilities had perished after the fight against the Armageddon. I can only sustain now, but even that can't do anything more than what an ordinary healer can do."
"Elizabeth…" Glitch trailed off. "What happened to you?"
"I helped someone grow," Elizabeth said. "That's all I can say. And right now, that someone is thriving."
"Blood Parade."
A series of explosion sounded from outside. The explosions created holes in the forcefield, showing the crowd of people that had gathered right outside.
"They're here!" Florencia cheered. "Guys! We're inside. Break this forcefield please."
Daniel sighed and thrust his right hand foward. He created more blood hands that he fired at the forcefield, breaking a large part of it.
"Are you talking about him?" Glitch asked. "What happened between you and Daniel?"
Elizabeth only shook her head and smiled, a flash of emotion shown in her eyes that one of Elliot's student caught.
"You…" Christina whispered. "You sacrificed your power for him."
"He wanted to be stronger," Elizabeth smiled. "Now, he can surpass even me or any Adventurer."
–
A day after the war against the Armageddon, Elizabeth was patroling the area of Solaguer, the capital city. In an alley, she saw a faint red light that was dying down.
"I'll take a look at that," Elizabeth told the other patrols.
"I'll come with you," one of them offered but Elizabeth decided the assistance saying that she could handle it.
"Alright then," the others said while letting Elizabeth go to the alley.
When she saw the alley, Elizabeth gasped. Daniel was in the air with his hands tied above him him by thorns and his legs were also tied with thorns. When she took a step forward, a red flashing light spoke to her.
'This child wants me to be his host,' the dark voice said. 'Do not interfere for I have his permission.'
"This child does not know anything," Elizabeth grew a large vine of thorns to reach Daniel. "Let him go!"
'I will die if I let him go,' the light said. 'I will not harm this child. Instead, I'll only live in his body and not intefere with him.'
"But his body is weak," Elizabeth whispered. She then gripped her hands and ran towards Daniel.
'What are you doing?!' the voice yelled.
"Demon, at least let me heal him," Elizabeth said. "His body can't sustain your powers."
'Alright,' the voice laughed maniacally. 'Let the games begin.'
Elizabeth forced her magic into the demon and Daniel's magic. She healed Daniel as the demon enter the boy's body, shoving its overwhelming magic inside Daniel.
A bright flash of red light burst after the success of their plan. The thorns that binded Daniel vanished as he fell to the ground which Elizabeth caught by creating a soft bush on where he landed.
"Why him?" Elizabeth asked the red light from the demon. "Why this child?"
"His lineage," the demon said. "His lineage is the most compatible hosts that any demon can have."
"So, you're living in his body and what happens next?" Elizabeth asked another question. "Will you kill him when you have enough power?"
"Only time will tell," the demon replied. "But his body won't last long so I have to find another host."
"He'll die," Elizabeth said. "Will he? If you leave his body, he will die."
"Yes," the demon did not hesitate to answer. "His body will perish and his soul will disintegrate into nothingness."
"Elliot," Daniel said in his sleep. "I will protect you this time. I'm sorry I couldn't do it before. I'll protect you and the kingdom."
Elizabeth watched Daniel as he sleeps soundly on the bush. The innocence of this boy touched her heart that it led her to a decision that she would never regret.
"I'll help him," Elizabeth said. "I'll heal his body over and over again. I'll do everything."
"You'll lose your powers if you do," the demon chuckled. "A Terran can't be this selfless. It's impossible."
"It is," Elizabeth said firmly. "And I'll do it."
"Why?" the demon was the one who asked this time.
Elizabeth looked at Connor and smiled. She ran her hand on his hair, remembering a face that she will never see again. "He reminds me of my brother."
"The one who perished," the demon chuckled. "Alright, Terran. Now you have piqued my interest."
"Tell me your name," Elizabeth ordered. "At least, do that."
The demon chuckled, "Saitan. Saitan is my name."
