Chapter 5
Lina
Black Brick Pirates…
Since they are a disbanded pirate crew, maybe they sank to the bottom of the sea?
There might be some treasures there, so Roger thought about looking for them later.
【I found it while diving for treasures.】
After saying that, Roger took out a damaged musket from his inventory.
Old Nielsen took a glance at it and then looked away.
【Diving for treasures is not an easy task, young man. Your courage is commendable.】
【This musket is beyond repair. Even Chad, the best blacksmith on Sea Serpent Island, might not be able to fix it. It’s better to buy a new one.】
【However, not many people use muskets nowadays.】
Old Nielsen gently implied that the musket was just scrap metal.
But Roger didn’t mind.
【Blacksmith Chad?】
Old Nielsen nodded.
【Yes, Chad is the best blacksmith on Sea Serpent Island. If you need to craft weapons or equipment, you can find him, but be prepared to pay a hefty price.】
【You better have enough gold coins.】
A blacksmith?
Roger noted this down.
【Thank you for your advice, Mr. Nielsen.】
【Do you know any ways to make money?】
Upon hearing this, Old Nielsen chuckled.
【I’m afraid I can’t give you any useful advice on that. After all, I’m just a poor soul myself.】
Roger wasn’t discouraged by his words. It was just a casual question anyway.
【Alright then.】
【By the way, Mr. Nielsen, I want to repair my small boat. Are there any craftsmen on the island?】
Roger had been thinking about upgrading his boat.
His purpose in asking Old Nielsen was to find an NPC with the skill of being a craftsman, maybe he could figure out a way to acquire that skill.
【If you want to repair your boat, go to the shipyard at the northern dock of Sea Serpent Island and find Felik.】
Old Nielsen provided useful information once again.
Then, Roger asked some questions about extraordinary powers and information about the world.
Old Nielsen admitted that he didn’t know much about them.
He had only heard some rumors about extraordinary powers, and as for the information about the whole world, he didn’t have much knowledge either, as he had never left Gentle Breeze Sea since he was young.
With the answers he wanted, Roger thanked and bid farewell to Old Nielsen.
He was heading towards the town now.
At this moment, the rain gradually stopped.
The sun shone again, transforming the previously gloomy island into a bright and sunny one.
However, it was already approaching evening, and the sky quickly darkened.
Roger continued along the road and soon came across rows of houses.
He had arrived at the town.
The town on Sea Serpent Island was not very big, with NPCs dressed in simple clothes coming and going.
Some NPCs glanced at Roger, seemingly curious about the origins of this unfamiliar face.
After strolling around the town, Roger found a tavern.
After giving it some thought, he decided to sell the fish he had and check the prices.
The tavern wasn’t crowded at the moment, with a few townspeople sitting in groups of two or three.
Text bubbles with “…” kept popping up above their heads, and Roger couldn’t hear what they were saying if he didn’t get closer.
Approaching the counter, Roger walked up to the middle-aged man with a big beard and a vest.
【Hello, are you the owner?】
The bearded owner stopped wiping the glass upon hearing Roger’s words.
【Hello, I’m Knaad, the owner of this tavern. Would you like to have a drink?】
Roger shook his head.
[Don’t worry, boss Conrad, I just caught some fish. Do you buy them here?]
Conrad nodded in response.
[Sure, can I take a look?]
Roger left some of the fish and then handed over the rest of his stored seafood to Conrad.
Conrad looked at the fish handed over by Roger, nodded, and checked one of the fish. He paused for a moment when he noticed something and then calmly spoke up.
[Your fish is quite good. I can offer you five silver coins.]
Roger had been observing the boss and recalled his earlier actions. He felt that something was off and was about to speak when an NPC approached from the side.
A pretty little person with blue short hair walked over with her arms crossed.
[I also think your fish is good, especially that golden turtle fish. I can offer you thirty silver coins.]
[Why not sell it to me?]
The blue-haired NPC blinked at Roger.
Realizing that his plan had been exposed, boss Conrad felt embarrassed but then slapped his forehead.
[Oh my, you’re right. I didn’t even notice the golden turtle fish. I’m truly sorry, that was my oversight.]
[I can offer you sixty silver coins, and consider the extra money as compensation, alright?]
Upon hearing this, Roger didn’t reply immediately but instead turned to look at the blue-haired girl beside him.
[It seems I can only bid farewell to this delicious golden turtle fish.]
The blue-haired girl smiled and turned to leave.
Quick on his feet, Roger had his game character respond.
[I’m giving this golden turtle fish to you, beautiful miss.]
Upon hearing Roger’s words, the text “……” appeared above the tavern owner’s head, who had been left hanging.
[Hahaha, you really know how to talk.]
[But I don’t really feel like eating fish right now. If you’re willing, maybe you can buy me a glass of juice.]
The cute blue-haired girl with pixelated style smiled with crescent-shaped eyes.
[I would be honored.]
Roger’s little character showed a happy expression, then turned to the tavern owner and withdrew his smile, becoming expressionless.
[These fish belong to you, at the price we agreed on earlier.]
[And I need a menu as well.]
Seeing this, the tavern owner awkwardly scratched his head and handed the silver coins to Roger.
After ordering some juice and food, Roger and the blue-haired girl sat down at a table.
[Kind miss, thank you for earlier. Otherwise, I would have been tricked.]
[My name is Roger, and I’m on a long voyage.]
To be honest, even in a pixelated game world, Roger found this blue-haired girl very cute.
I wonder if there’s a chance for…
[You’re welcome, Conrad often tricks people from the outer islands, and I just couldn’t stand it.]
[Speaking of long voyages… it’s truly an ancient and courageous tradition.]
[My name is Lina, and I’m a resident of Sea Serpent Island. Nice to meet you.]
She seems like a kind and cheerful girl.
Roger doesn’t know much about the game world and has just arrived on this island, so he has many questions and doesn’t worry about finding topics to talk about.
The two of them had a pleasant conversation, and Roger found out the exact locations of the craftsman and blacksmith, as well as some other information about the island.
Lina is one of the few doctors on Sea Serpent Island and is well-versed in medical skills.
And coincidentally, the old Nielsen by the dock is Lina’s grandfather.
But when Roger mentioned Lina’s parents, she seemed a bit down.
Her parents used to be members of a merchant caravan, but six years ago, they went missing after setting sail, and there has been no news of them since.
Although Lina still holds onto hope, deep down she knows that on this boundless sea, disappearance often means death…
