Chapter 6
The Fisherman’s Spring
[I’ve always wanted to go out to sea and search for my parents’ traces, even if they’re no longer here. I still want to find the answers.]
[But…]
At this point, Lina hesitated and fell into silence.
Upon hearing Lina’s words, Roger’s heart stirred.
This game has such a high degree of freedom, so perhaps he could try inviting an NPC to become his companion on the voyage?
After all, there’s strength in numbers, and although his game character can do many things, there are still some things that cannot be done alone.
The proficient medical skills of Lina in front of him seemed like a good choice.
However, Lina seemed to have her concerns.
[Perhaps we can go out to sea together. I really need a ship’s doctor like you.]
Roger attempted to extend the invitation.
But he felt that Lina might not easily agree.
Sure enough, Lina smiled.
[I’m glad you invited me, but I don’t have that plan at the moment, at least not now.]
[If there’s a chance in the future, I think I will consider it.]
After saying that, Lina changed the topic, seemingly not wanting to continue discussing the matter of going out to sea for now.
Roger also tactfully did not continue to inquire. He only needed to express his willingness.
The two chatted for a while again.
Roger brought up the topic of extraordinary powers to Lina once more.
[Mysterious powers… Speaking of that, I seem to have heard some rumors.]
[It is said that beyond the sea fog in the five major seas, there are people who possess extraordinary powers beyond ordinary humans. They can summon storms or control minds.]
[A few years ago, a fleet visited Sea Serpent Island, and their captain seemed to be one of these people, but it’s just a rumor I heard.]
Lina also seemed curious about the mysterious extraordinary powers.
However, whether it’s the Gentle Breeze Sea or other seas in the five major seas, extraordinary powers are limited to rumors, and very few people have truly witnessed them.
After chatting for a while again, Lina mentioned that it was getting late, and she had to return to the clinic. She told Roger that if he had any matters, he could come to the clinic to find her.
Roger readily agreed.
After bidding farewell to Lina, he headed to the shipwright and blacksmith.
[A large ship that can accommodate five or six people?]
[It will cost at least fifty gold coins, and the materials are currently insufficient. It will take some time before we can start construction.]
Inside the Sea Serpent Island shipyard, the shipwright, Felix, held a cigarette in his mouth, his hands busy, and without turning his head, he answered.
Roger nodded after hearing this.
He had roughly understood the prices in this world from the tavern earlier.
Firstly, there are three denominations of currency in the game world, from low to high: copper coins, silver coins, and gold coins, with an exchange rate of one hundred.
The annual expenses of an ordinary household are roughly a few gold coins.
Currently, Roger’s wallet balance is 60 silver coins and 82 copper coins, which is still far from being able to purchase a large ship.
Of course, Roger didn’t expect to get a large ship right now. He just wanted to understand the price and, more importantly, another matter.
[Mr. Felix, are you hiring apprentices?]
Roger planned to learn skills and level up on his own, which might save him a significant amount of money.
Upon hearing this, Felix paused his movements, wiped his hands with a cloth, and looked at Roger.
Roger thought he would say something like, “It’s not that easy to learn my craft.”
But unexpectedly, he straightforwardly gave the price.
[Ten silver coins per month.]
Roger promptly handed over the money, and Felix asked him to come here tomorrow at a designated time.
Then he followed Lina’s guidance and came to the blacksmith Chad’s shop.
Compared to the shipwright Felik, blacksmith Chad was more enthusiastic.
[You’re a young man who just went out to sea, what do you want to buy?]
After a brief conversation, Roger roughly understood the prices of the items in the weapon shop.
Dagger: 3 silver coins, machete: 8 silver coins, flintlock gun: 5 gold coins, and there are also some armor and equipment, which are more expensive, and customized weapons and equipment are accepted.
After pondering for a moment, Roger took out a rusty knife from his pocket.
[Please repair this rusty knife.]
Blacksmith Chad was speechless at his words. He really was a thrifty young man.
After handing the rusty knife and the repair cost to Chad, Roger left the weapon shop and returned to the small boat by the dock.
There were rooms in the tavern, but they required payment.
Roger wouldn’t waste money on that. Isn’t his own little boat more comfortable to sleep on?
Just as Roger was about to board the ship, a familiar figure with hands behind their back stopped him.
[Come inside and sleep.]
Old Nielsen said and didn’t give Roger a chance to refuse, then turned and entered the room.
Roger felt touched.
“Meow~”
The little orange cat meowed and followed Roger into Old Nielsen’s wooden house.
…
The night passed, and the sun rose.
Roger got up and found a cooked fish on the table, presumably prepared by Old Nielsen for breakfast.
As for Old Nielsen, he should have already left.
Roger didn’t hesitate and left Old Nielsen’s small wooden house after finishing breakfast.
Leaving a note, Roger decided to go fishing at sea and search for treasure.
“Don’t sleep, Big Orange.”
Before leaving, Roger smirked and, ignoring Big Orange’s struggle, lifted the still sleepy little orange cat onto the boat.
Big Orange was the name Roger gave to the little orange cat, very casual.
Before long, Roger arrived in a sea area not far from Sea Serpent Island on the small boat.
There was a stone island made up of reefs.
After tying the boat with a rope, Roger sent out a fish decoy to explore the seabed.
Meanwhile, he started fishing on the island.
Currently, with his level four fishing skill and talent bonus, Roger rarely caught trash.
At worst, it was always sea fish.
Sometimes, he even caught some slightly valuable fish.
[You caught: Sea Fish x1.]
[You caught: White Squid x1.]
…
Time passed slowly.
The underwater treasure Roger was hoping for still hadn’t appeared.
He hadn’t even seen any skeletons containing items like before.
This made Roger a little frustrated.
But he was also well aware that this situation was very normal.
In the Gentle Breeze Sea, many people have the habit of fishing or even diving.
If there were any particularly valuable treasures, they were most likely in the deep sea.
But Roger’s current game character couldn’t dive too deep.
Unless he had a special creature decoy.
Splash.
Just as Roger was contemplating, the fishing float moved.
The little person skillfully released the line, reeled it in, and finally lifted the fishing rod.
Originally, Roger didn’t pay much attention.
But what he didn’t expect was that this time, he actually caught something!
[The talent effect “Master Angler” has been triggered!]
[You caught a special item: Magic Potion – Trainee.]
[Fishing skill experience increased, current level: lv6.]
