Chapter 85: Cyra and Milo's predicament

Milo who escaped by a hair's margin started running hearing the sound of monster chasing behind him.

He knew these bipedal monsters were smart and had enough ingenuity to pick up on tracks of their target that included his and the different directions he took to lay out different kind of contraptions to distract them.

Milo might be alone but he was not stupid, not only did he rigged the path that he was treading but also some of the general area where he planned to rest.

The first of his target was caught in such trap as they tripped the explosive whoch caught about a dozen of his pursuers in the blast radius.

The blast was loud but what's louder was their wail as they burned to the crisp. Some unlucky ones lost their limbs while those that were outside the radius had ruptured eardrums disjointing them from following his trail.

Taking advantage of the situation, Milo pulled out his sniper rifled which already had a silencer and shot mowed down any enemy at his line of sight.

They didn't know who the enemy was but their people were getting picked up one by one. They had never seen weapons like this before. They might have numbers but they were weak against the things that they didn't understand.

They had faced sorcerers and knights when they would come to regularly attack their settlement as a way to thin out their numibut even then they could never get so close to their main settlement because it was too dangerous for them.

Even a powerful knight or sorcerer could be killed if they overwhelmed them with numbers. The big orge like figure among them screamed calming down their anxiety, it spoke something in it's native language after which other monsters spread out with their makeshift shield covering most of their vital parts of their body.

Milo clicked his tongue knowing that it was too dangerous for him to stay at his location so he started moving again always being mindful of his own traps.

His speed was slow as he didn't want them to hear his steps. By now, he knew the only one that could really give him a hard time was the leader class behemoth among them who had keen sense of smell and hearing.

As expected no matter how careful Milo was the monster in question still picked up on his location and yelled loudly to order his minions to swarm the direction.

Milo looked back after taking cover to see hundreds of monsters advancing in his direction. He panicked and started running away loudly which also made the enemy more certain that they were on the right path.

They still had not caught a glimpse of the 'rat' but by listening to Milo's steps they knew there shouldn't be many of them.

Unfortunately for them they didn't expect more traps and soon three more were triggered leaving the small army in disarray but this time the leader yelled loudly telling them to keep moving.

A few scared ones that had seen their friends getting blown to smithereens halted their steps only to be mowed down by their own leader as they were damaging everyone else's morale.

It didn't want cowards in its rank so it was much more ideal for it to make an example out of them then to keep them alive. It also used their bodies as weapons throwing them in different directions hoping to slow down their enemies retreat.

This really scared Milo seeing dead monsters fall from the sky some landing few feets away from his hiding place. What's more outrageous was by doing such a absurd thing, they disarmed few of Milo's trap that detonated prematurely. It was his luck that he was outside the area of influence or he would be dead by now!

He remembered what Cyra had warned him about. These monsters that resembled humans were cruel and do anything to capture him not to mention what would await him was worse than death.

He made up his mind, if he was really at the point where he couldn't escape he would use the weapon on himself than to get captured by these beasts!

While Milo was wrestling with his choices, Cyra was breezing through the forest on the first sign of explosion.

As they expected, most of the patrol rushed toward Milo's direction leaving the coast clear for Cyra.

She was like a wind passing through the dense vegetation making minimum noise. But it's not like she was trying to avoid them, if she saw two or three of such monsters, she would jump down from the tree and directly behead them before moving forward.

They had to clear this place in the future, it was better for her to take care of these isolated monsters to make their future work easier.

She also hoped that by doing this she could also create a sort of disturbance after she had left the forest taking some of their attention from Milo.

For now they were focused on him but if they find their people were massacred at the place completely oppossite side, they might think twice to leave the post or maybe they would send more people to scourge this place to find her.

She would be long gone by the. but it would sow discord in their ranks that they were being attacked from different sides which would divide their large force.

Unlike her and Milo who could communicate over the radio these monster were not privy to such luxury.

It only took her half and hour before she reached the edge of their territory. She could see the way down the mountain which had fairly less monsters. She had also taken down around a hundred of them.

With her speed they never had a chance to attack. She really wanted to contact Milo but they had a pact that during this mission Milo would be the one to contact her but only after he gets to a safe place. She didn't know of he safely made out of the ambush or was unlucky enough to be caught by them!
