Chapter 84: Cave secured!
Meanwhile inside the cave Bijan, Julia and Jake were trying to map all the different entrances and where they led but their mind was still reeling from the possibility that Sorcerers could be responsible for carving out the mountain.
Bijan already hinted that it would take someone who is comparable in power to his master or even more powerful but what's crazy they would have to have more precise control over their elemental magic in this case Earth or else there was a chance for it to collapse.
There were three door that led to different sections but they were too big for Jake or Julia to push ao in the end they followed Bijan as he entered the first door.
They fully expected something different after walking through the narrow corridor then entering the specific door. Maybe another huge clearing or this time a large room filled with gold and artifacts.
But nothing of that sort greeted their eyes, it was a small space barely enough to fit five people. Even they with their equipment and gear felt stuffy.
" This... This is not possible. Why would they build such a intricate door to such small room? It's empty with no signs of anything being stored here since it's inception." Bijan placed his hand on the ground and the wall quickly analyzing anything he could find out from the soil composition.
Maybe the sediment was hard, his powers couldn't really penetrate more than dozen meter outward and he saw nothing around the whole space.
After a disappointing find they returned and explored another doorway. This time when they opened the door, they heard something inside move.
Bijan shouted telling Jake and Julia to get ready. They were already on it with Julia getting behind Jake with her rifle in hand pointing at the opening of the door while Jake holding his shield slamming it on to the ground creating a small protective position with pistol in his free hand ready to take down anything that came out of the darkness.
Bijan had already wrapped himself in protective layer of earth, after years of fighting these things came out without him even thinking about it. Only he knew how many times his armour had saved his life from a sneak attack!
They didn't have to wait long, they heard some screeches after which they saw few red glowing eyes but right next moment it multiplied to a hundred and it kept going.
They didn't know what they were facing but their numbers seemed too many for three of them to handle. Jake gulped feeling a hint of fear while Julia narrowed her eyes seemingly recognising the thing that they inside the cave.
As she expected the next moment, something flew out of the door but they were not attacking them. A dozen or so bats whizzed pass them going straight toward the opening at the top of the large opening where they came from.
Right after that, hundreds if not thousands of bats flew in different direction narrowly passing by them all going in the same direction. The whole display lasted for full five minutes before the noise died down completely.
Bijan shone his flashlight inside the door to see a massive cave which was half the size of the main cave. At first he was confused as to how these things even get past the massive gate but the answer was right top of the door, a large opening through which these flying animals could go in and out of the cave with ease.
There were a lot of dropping and even some small skeleton probably from the carcases from their prey.
Even pointing the light to the back of the cave gave him a similar feeling. There really was nothing inside except a lot of shit and things decomposing making the place smell awful!
" Another dud huh? Maybe someone had already found this place and took everything inside of value after all this place looks ancient." Julia added feeling the disappointment coming off of Bijan's body. Jake simply nodded along. Even the villagers didn't know such a place existed so close to their home.
There might be people living here centuries before their ancestors settled here. Who knows what they did here but one thing was clear they did spend a lot of manpower to carve the whole moutain.
" Maybe you are right but we should check the other entrances." Bijan didn't want to give up early.
If they got lucky not only could they obtain gold but there could be even more valuable things like Magic tombs or artifacts both were pretty rare in sorcerer's circle.
Such items could give the wearer a exponential boost in both knowledge and their magic element making it extremely precious.
Unfortunately, even after searching other entrances they didn't find anything. All the rooms were similar completely sealed off. Nothing as small as the one that they discovered when they opened the first door bht these things could only be used as base and not as a archeological treasure!
After wandering around in the cave for several hours, Bijan finally decided it was time for them to return to the main space where they found the remnant of civilization and where they saw peope in the past carve the whole mountain.
They could return back to their main camp where Noah and Cody who was taking care of him were but Bijan decided to allocate one more day for exploration.
Fortunately they never found anything dangerous. Bijan fully thought that there would be some scattered number of mutated wolves living inside the cabe but it seemed like the Alpha Canis had the place to itself and didn't let anyone else inside the cave.
They erected their tent and pulled out the rations for the day. The compact food that Noah gave them worked wonders. They couldn't say it tasted normal but it was better than chewing on beef jerky before going to bed!
