Chapter 225: Cainite
The wooden cabin stood solid against the relentless blizzard, a group of magic students came together to cast Nature-magic using the spell <Craftsman>
The walls hummed with a faint green glow of their combined Astrum, but the more specialized Students, a two boys, and girl.
Use the <Warmth> spell on the entire house, and area, to warded off the worst of the cold.
"That should do it."
"Yeah, hopefully this holds up for the month, the winds and storm here are extremely gruelling."
Another student said.
Sometimes pass, and the other students finally had time to settle in, as the magic students rest for a bit, while the non-combatant types who specializes in support for the most part.
Began to prepare simple but tasty meals.
Time passes, and the majority of this fifty seven students currently working together, where Inside the lar cabin.
Which was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside.
Scaling to the size of three story building. Enough space for all of them to sleep and settle.
The air was thick with the scent of roasting meat and the murmur of exhausted students, some patching up gear, others tallying points on scratched-up bracelets, all clinging to the fragile hope of surviving this hellish exam.
It had been five days since the drop, and the slugs kept coming, burrowing through the ice most of the time, for that reason several students have to keep guard at all time as they switch shifts.
But for now, the base held up nicely, Rex being the creator of this little group, naturally had the best room and call the shots.
His logic being that his lore ability <Top Dog> allow for him to distribute orders among the group better.
Since it started with him, then he met three capable students, and quickly grown to fifty plus in no time in a matter of days.
He quickly notice these alien slugs on their own is already hard for just one student to kill.
But just as they have numbers, they have bit of quality and numbers too a such leveraging this neutral formation of quantity and quality the group compensate for each other weakness.
Support team assist, in domestic affairs like cleaning, cooking, or even wepaon repair, or healing if capable.
Guardian teams keep watch at all times, well those with high senses, or abilities or magic related to keeping an eye for watchful danger even when their guard is down.
Strategists team the team he was on basically give orders to ease the load.
Then their is frontliners, a team consisting of both defensive, long and short range combatants and non-combatants.
While the student where free to freeze roam in groups to collect points to pass the exam, alongside staying alive and present how they survive under such immense stress.
In a way Rex ability has form a team with the same goal a such the diversity of capability and expertise share among themselves like this basically gave this group alot of wincons for this exam if they keep doing what they are doing.
Food.
Medical attention.
Security.
A place to sleep.
And free will made this group of students almost unmatched.
Hell even Moca had to give it to this small army of babies.
'They are organized I will give them that, but humans are very social creatures, so seeing something like this shouldn't be a surprise. Only if vampires could work together like this...sigh...
She said to herself.
But then, a knocked came as two students rushed in, partially injured, but nothing too severe.
It was Zyle and Calton.
Commoner brothers, they where apart of the Security team and they came bearing bad news.
"Oi Rex, a small army of those damn slugs are coming this way from the east."
"Hmmm... If that is the case then why not send a couple of the frontliners to deal with them then?"
"That's the thing, we already did, but they are outnumbered 500 to 10."
"I see...
Rex said as she looked at five students in particular that surrounded him.
Seeing this Moca sighed as she said.
"I will deal with it."
"Moca you don't need to do this, four other people here are just as capable you know."
Rex gave the other four a commanding look as if to say, get to fucking work, and stop being lazy.
None of them spoke, but one.
It was Kael as he open his eyes, coming out of his nap, as he stretch his limbs.
"Who the hell are you to order me, the agreement was I only act if something beyond your pay grade attack us. Let someone else handle the grunts."
"Tshhh... Still isn't it unmanly to make a wom...
"Bro fyi that would apply to you as well, secondly she left like a sixty seconds ago."
Another male said, causing Rex to turn around, to find Moca was gone.
"Dammit, you guys can't take a hint can you?!"
Kael just shrugged at this as he commented back.
"Don't blame us for your lack of rizz... Beside that girl is way too much for one as weak as you are to even handle. That much ass, and physical strength would kill a man like you the moment she hops on your bang wagon."
At these words, the student sall burst into laughter as they laughed at Rex.
"Ahahhahan....
Then another male student replied.
"Besides, it would seem you have competition."
Kael said as he look to the left, and the other boy that was among the top powerhouses in th group was gone.
Rex notice this as he said.
"Where the hell is Rance, wasn't he here... No... Don't tell me that blonde hair playboy is also trying to court Lady Moca toooo Ahhhhhh....
He scream while pulling his head in panic.
Meanwhile outside, near the perimeter, Moca sharpened her daggers with deliberate, almost ritualistic strokes or her own claws.
Her white hair, cropped short and tied back with a black ribbon, blowing due to the heavy winds.
She didn't need to struggle to see in this blasted weather, the Monster World was way more unforgiving place than this planet.
"Let's get this over with."
With those words said, with great speed, and mobility she moved with an effortless grace, her academy uniform modified with dark leather reinforcements that blended seamlessly into the night.
Jumping from tree to tree, rocks to rocks, hell it even looked she was teleporting given she cover a lot of distance appearing in one shadow and sudden appearing into another.
Till eventually she reach the Eastern parts, where the Frontline was holding up the territory defense.
Hundreds of Slugs where already dead, but the ten student her look pretty bang up.
"Lady Moca!"
On student commented holding her injured arm, she was bloody, alot not her own but she was still pretty banged up.
"Your Catherina right?!"
"Yeah."
"Care to explain what going on here?"
"We don't know, alot of those damn things suddenly started to appear in groups, so far it large wave of them every damn ten minutes. Kill one waves, a couples minutes later an even bigger wave come."
"I see."
Moca said simply.
With that she grabbed Catherina by the shoulder and said.
"Tell your group to retreat, I will deal with the waves."
Catherina didn't protest, with that she gathered her team members as they took tactical retreat back to the Cabin, so they can get their wounds heal.
Meanwhile Moca stare down the large group of alien slugs as she prepare to quickly massacre them.
But just as she was about to go for the kill.
She heard a voice.
"Hey, Moca."
"Hmmm."
She groaned a little annoyed.
The voice was smooth and cocksure. It was Rance, she looked at the tall young man, with tousled blond hair noble.
He sauntered over, his enchanted cloak billowing dramatically despite the wind.
"I saw you heading out alone so I thought I should follow to help? You know it is quite dangerous out here. Maybe I should tag along, keep you company."
Moca didn't even glance up, her dagger laid tightly in her hand as she said bluntly.
"I don't need a babysitter, Rance."
"You can go back now, your just giving the enemies time to recover to longer you keep me from slaughtering these things."
Hearing this he chuckled, leaning against a nearby snowdrift.
"Ouch. Come on, you're too tense. All work and no play makes for a dull Hunter you know."
"Even if you as very strong and beautiful, you can't do everything by yourself."
Her crimson eyes finally flicked toward him, cold and unyielding.
It was clear that she was reaching her patience tolerance with this human.
Still she try to keep her composure as she replied back saying.
"Flattery from a noble? How original. Save it for someone who cares."
She said while she sheathed her dagger with a snap, standing fluidly.
"If you're done wasting my time, I have slugs to kill."
Without another word, she turned toward the storm, her presence commanding enough to make Rance hesitate.
As Moca directed some of her blood list towards him.
But he was persistent.
"Wait, Moca....
He started, but she was already gone, melting into the shadows like smoke. Rance sighed, shaking his head with a grin.
"Playing hard to get just makes you hotter. I'll wear you down eventually."
With that Moca teleported once more.
This time at heart of the conflict as decided to kill everything here.
The blizzard swallowed Moca as she ventured beyond the base's wards, her senses attuned to the subtle vibrations under the ice.
The slugs were predictable, slow, relentless, but easy to kill if you realize there weakness.
Like Adam being sensitive to Astrum.
She had long realize these things have artificial spirits as a life line.
And it is these spirits that allow them to control ice the way they do.
But she didn't even need to pick up on the vibration underground, their core could not be any more visible than it is.
And It didn't take long for trouble to find her.
A low rumble echoed from beneath the ground, the ice cracking as three crystalline slugs burst forth, their bodies glistening with cold energy and heavy killing intent.
Each was the size of a horse, their maws dripping with cryogenic slime that froze the air around them. They lunged, sluggish but deadly, aiming to bury her in an avalanche of ice.
Moca's lips curled into a disdainful sneer.
"Pathetic."
She extended her hand, and the shadows around her writhed to life, tendrils of darkness coiling like living serpents, weird and unnatural, defying the light of the aurora.
They lashed out, wrapping around the first wave of slug's limbs with a grip stronger than steel.
The creature's thrashed, but the shadows tightened the more they move, pulling it apart with a sickening crack.
Crystalline shards scattered across the snow, dissolving into ash as a result.
Three of them died like that but another was up ahead.
This one charged to her, spewing a blast of freezing mist. Moca dodged with supernatural speed, her form blurring as she merged with the darkness around her.
Her dodging basically local teleportation within a fox area in this case made it hard for her to be hit.
She then bit her thumb, drawing a bead of blood that hovered in the air, glowing with an inner crimson light.
With a flick of her wrist, the blood expanded, twisting into razor-sharp blades, with elongated spikes that have it a jagged edge.
The blood blades shot forward, piercing the slug's exoskeleton with ease. They burrowed inside, manipulating the creature's own fluids, turning its icy innards against it.
The slug convulsed, its body bloating before exploding in a shower of frozen gore as Moca sharpen the blood within and like a blender cut, tear, slice, rip, and grind them from the inside put.
Moca's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
Nothing beats a good dose of unnecessary violence.
But she didn't had time to savor it because right after another slug appeared, smarter than its kin, burrowed back into the snow, circling for a sneak attack.
But Moca was ready.
She slammed her palm to the ground, shadows pooling beneath her like ink in water. They spread outward, forming a web of darkness that sensed the vibrations underground.
"Come out and play will you."
She taunted, her tone haughty, as if the monster were beneath her notice.
The slug erupted behind her, jaws wide. In a flash, Moca spun, her blood manipulation surging. She drew more from a shallow cut on her arm, shaping it into a whip that cracked through the air. It wrapped around the slug's neck, the blood hardening into crystalline edges that bit deep.
With a yank, she pulled, the shadows aiding her strength, decapitating the beast in one brutal motion.
Its headless body slumped, twitching before going still. And for extra measure the things own shadow turn against it.
As it turn into giant alligator head, it's maw opening and swallowing it's whole and eating it's remains before the shadow melted back into nothingness.
But the fight was far from over, she had killed about thirteen of those things.
Still hundred of them started to crowd her from all directions, as she sighed and said.
"Fighting a Cainite in the dark is like baby fighting a nuclear bomb. Oh well, more point for me I guess."
