Chapter 359: God Slayer Squad (Part 2)
Such defensive power is indeed daunting. But now, with only that Dragon Son guarding nearby, what's stopping him?
"He noticed me."
Hebei lowered her head and took a sip of the cheap beer in front of her. Her face showed no emotion, and her voice was calm, but the message conveyed by her words was so shocking that it immediately drew the full attention of the other six people; no one could remain calm.
Even the man sitting at the head, who hadn't spoken a word, with brilliant golden hair and orange-red eyes like burning flames, couldn't help but cast his gaze towards this Void Blade.
"What happened? You're the infamous Void Bearer. That Dragon's eldest offspring shouldn't be over two hundred years old, right? Can he really spot you? Are all Dragon brats this ridiculous these days?"
The man who was first startled by Hebei's words couldn't help but exclaim, completely lacking the maturity his weathered face suggested, acting more like a reckless young lad.
"His spiritual perception is very keen. I exposed only a slight flaw, and he noticed me."
"You exposed a flaw? Oh, then that's your problem, and it's normal to be discovered. Do you think that Dragon brat can stop me this way?"
Charon remained relentless, wanting to know the basis upon which this Void Blade judged that he could not independently handle that Ancestral Golden Dragon, considering his own bloodline wasn't much inferior.
"He can't stop you, but his father can!"
"What do you mean? Is that Dragon about to awaken, is that why there's trouble?"
The handsome, charming minstrel stroked his chin, showing a look of contemplation in his eyes.
"No, that Dragon is still asleep and is expected to sleep for a long time, but even so, I sensed a very threatening, deadly aura from him. We can't regard him as an ordinary Dragon Clan member."
Hebei raised her head, looking serious.
"That's why there's no obvious protective strength around that Dragon, huh? I mean, what Dragon sleeps without thoroughly protecting itself."
The middle-aged man picked up the conversation intuitively, letting out a sigh.
"To still pose a threat while sleeping, are you sure he's not pretending to sleep?"
The minstrel showed a look of skepticism because even he couldn't make the Void Blade in front of him feel a threat to life; anyway, he wasn't confident enough to kill her.
If this woman wanted to hide wholeheartedly, he couldn't even find her. That's the most annoying part of an excellent assassin.
"Are you doubting me?"
Though Hebei's expression remained unchanged, everyone, especially Charon, felt as if they were being pricked on their backs, feeling that their heads might relocate from their necks in the next instant.
"No, it just feels too outlandish. An Ancestor Dragon, it's not like we haven't seen one before, how can it be this absurd?"
Charon couldn't help but retort.
"Ancestor Dragons are not all the same; each one is a unique existence. Do I need to explain this kind of common knowledge to you again?"
The burly man who was first mocked by the minstrel seized the opportunity to retort.
"Of course, I know, but no matter how strong, there should be a limit, right? This Dragon is less than three hundred years old; how absurd could it be? It hasn't even left the Material Realm!"
Charon believed everything in the world has logic, and no creature becomes strong for no reason. If something seems beyond logic, it must be due to an incomplete understanding, and the other party has an unknown method of becoming strong.
"If it were that simple, we wouldn't have gathered. Those esteemed majesties believe it's necessary, which is why we have the opportunity to sit at this table together."
The blond man at the head finally spoke, and when he did, the other six fell silent, all eyes on him.
It's not that his strength was the strongest; no one dared claim to be the strongest, for this group was too special, as they made it their rule to act upon slaying those who dared regard themselves as gods.
It was simply because he was the most special in this small group, carrying the bloodline of the Divine, having obtained divinity, serving as a vessel to host the arrival of a great presence when needed.
"In that case, let's discuss this properly."
"Ha, coward, didn't you just say you wanted to complete this independently?"
Glenn the Earth Ripper showed a mocking smile full of sarcasm.
"Of course, I'm willing to try, but are you willing to bear the consequences of my failure?"
Charon grinned brightly, his eyes flashing with electricity, and if it weren't for being on a mission, he would play a symphony of the underground for the brute in front of him, teaching him the meaning of a requiem.
"Your failure, what's that got to do with me?"
Glenn's complexion changed suddenly, full of dissatisfaction.
"Of course, it's related. We're teammates now. My failure is your failure."
The handsome man smiled gently.
"Scoundrel!"
"Alright, that's enough. Let's stop arguing about meaningless things. Now, we have only one task: to complete the mission in the shortest time possible."
The Priestess spoke.
"My suggestion is assassination. The forces this Dragon has developed are a bit intimidating. If we cause any disturbance, we might be encircled by multiple Ancient Dragons. I don't want to go to war with the Metallic Dragon Race."
The middle-aged man raised his hand, offering his advice.
"It's been years since seven God Slayers gathered together, only to assassinate a single target?"
Charon was somewhat unwilling.
Assassinating a leader and slaughtering them in a direct encounter produce entirely different effects and bring different renown.
"Too many Dragons. If you're not satisfied, you can go outside and have a count."
"No need for that."
"Assassination is the most appropriate, but I've already alerted the Holy Dragon Descendant. For the time being, that Dragon should heighten its vigilance. We need to wait for an opportune moment and once we start, we must complete the mission in the shortest time possible; otherwise, we'll be in big trouble."
Hebei agreed with the assassination plan but also pointed out its challenges.
"How short is the shortest time?"
"From the Ancient Dragon's sensing the abnormality to its arrival."
"Is there time in between? Once we act, won't we be discovered?"
Every God Slayer present had the power to independently hunt Ancient Dragons. The problem was, when a group of Metallic Ancient Dragons gathered, who knew how many more they could summon? No one dared boast of handling a group of Metallic Ancient Dragons on their own.
"Ask those majesties if they're willing to be a bit more generous. We're lacking a piece of barrier-type equipment."
"No way, I remember you having one..."
"That's one I acquired myself, not granted by any being, and it has usage limits, so don't target mine."
Hebei cast a cold glance, and the minstrel immediately shut up.
"Tsk, indeed, fine!"
It was precisely because they were working for the gods that the powerful God Slayers were clear-headed. During mission execution, they demanded that important equipment and consumable materials be provided by the churches of the gods, or they wouldn't budge.
There was no reason to risk death only to work for free for the gods; if they eliminated the threat for the gods, the gods had to give corresponding rewards.
"I think it's not just barrier equipment; multiple sets of Dragon Revenge Crossbows and Dragon Resentment Swords are needed. Isn't that group trying to wound without killing? Without sufficient curse artifacts effective against Ancestral Dragons, how could it be done?"
