"Glibby, you were at the camp last. Give us a description." Daggat said.

Eyes turned to her, then she disappeared. Then she reappeared with a sheepish grin, "Sorry. Um, camp has big walls. Lots of goblins, but they all went away."

"The goblins are returning home," Hrodebert intoned. "They move quickly, but disorderly."

"When did that start?" Daggat asked.

"A few days ago, shortly after the battle." The tree giant said.

"How many groups?" Koarok asked.

"Three large groups, scattered."

"Can you point to where on the map?" Daggat asked.

He did so, and Daggat placed pawn pieces in these areas.

"How long until they get back? Roughly?" Klaw asked.

"I don't know. They are erratic." Hrodebert said, "North and south are further, almost three weeks or so. West is closer, but they are stronger."

"How do you know all of this?" Ketil asked. He had been tense since the meeting began, constantly glancing towards the orcs.

"This forest is my domain. The trees are my masters. They tell me."

"Well, ask your trees what the main camp is like now," Koarok said.

"They do not know," Hrodebert answered with a growl, "You orcs tore the trees down."

"Watch your tone, tree." The orc said.

Daggat snapped his attention to the two of them, "Play nice or I take away the peace auras. It would be fun to see who would get torn apart first, but I'd rather not clean up afterwards." He turned to Glibby, "Glibs, do you know who stayed back?"

"Glibby isn't sure. Some goblins. Too old or weak. Some to serve Rika."

"Do you know which mercenaries traveled with whom?"

"Glibby heard Hoggo talk about it. Orcs went east and south, wargs went west, and harpies and the giant went north."

"So, Rika is undefended at the moment?" Thrymja asked.

"She is the defense," Tika said.

Ketil slammed his fist on the table, "I don't understand the problem here. Cut the leadership while it's weak. She's one monster."

Koarok glared at him, "She defeated a level forty unicorn by herself. Her strength is said to be unmatched in these realms. But what makes her so dangerous is that she never reveals all that she can do. She used almost none of her abilities in her fight against Nyxalhorn, yet was mostly unharmed."

"Sounds like fun," Klaw growled.

"The Nyxalhorn?" Ivory said. "He disappeared decades ago."

"Who's that?" Daggat asked.

"Alpha of the realm to the south. Well, used to be." She answered.

"How do we know Rika is the alpha right now?" Alfred asked, "Surely there could be a stronger beast in hiding. Much like Hrodbert, here."

"Alphas are always revealed to be within a realm. It's a skill called Trophy Hunter. I have it." Ketil said, "Rika is the alpha, but I still say we can kill her."

"I agree with the dwarf," Daggat said. "My team can handle her. We just need a bit of practice. A level or two, maybe."

"How powerful are you, individually?" Tika asked.

Daggat grinned, "Give me a day or two, and each of us will be stronger than Thrym here."

Thrymja narrowed his eyes, "How?"

Daggat pulled a golden scroll out of his inventory and toyed with it. "Rika isn't the only one around here who can punch above her weight."

Klaw and Zuss began to chuckle. Elyndris quivered in her own silent cackle.

Ketil sighed, "Daggat, no. What if you get hurt?"

"I'll get over it." He said.

"Is this an ink beast scroll?" Thrymja asked.

"Aye," replied Daggat. He tossed it back into his inventory.

"Then give it to us," Koarok said, "We are more experienced warriors. We can raise one of our own to meet her."

Daggat laughed, "No."

The orc frowned, but Thrymja placed a hand on his arm.

"No sense in talking him out of doing something stupid," Ketil said. "He'll do it anyway."

"That's right," Daggat said. "But I do like this plan we are putting together. Goblin Teeth beefs up a little, takes a little stroll back home, and murders Rika. Clean, easy."

"Then why are we even here?" Koarok said, "If you can do everything yourself."

"Goblins are vicious creatures," Ivory said.

"Thank you." Daggat and Klaw said simultaneously.

Ivory ignored them and continued, "Kill the leader, they will flock to another. For example, that one." She pointed at Glibby. "So, killing Rika just creates three or more misguided monster clans. We need to shatter these forces. Scatter them or absorb them. Otherwise, this will all happen again."

"Do you think handing power over to this goblin will be any better?" Tika said, "He could very well be the next Rika. No offense, goblin, but your charm cannot dissuade reason."

Klaw stood up from his chair, "What are you trying to say, bitch?"

Hunter put a hand on his shoulder, "Daggat isn't like the other goblins. He doesn't like to admit it, but he thinks of others first. Even going so far as to hurt himself."

"Aye," Ketil said, "I also hate to admit it. But the lad did save my life, sacrificing an arm to do so. Well done on healing that, by the way."

Daggat motioned Klaw to sit back down, "Tika, it was Tika, right? Look, I am going to be blunt. I AM going to be the next Rika. I do want power, like you may be thinking. It's not a secret. Thing is, though. To me, people are power. Allies are better than weapons or treasure. One orc is worth its weight in levels, not to mention being allied with an entire orc tribe." Daggat stood on his throne, "But I'm not going to squeeze this forest dry for experience. I'm not going to turn on my allies. She is a selfish fool, and I am only a fool. This is why we are all here, talking. Would Rika have sat down with any of you?"

"She would not," Thrymja said.

"Rika offered gold and power, things useless after she ruins our home. I offer civilization, unity."

The orcs muttered amongst themselves, as did Ketil and Reed. Glibby was watching Daggat with wide eyes, mouth slightly open from overwhelming awe. He would need to check her will; it seemed low.

His party muttered amongst themselves.

"Well, I'm convinced." Ivory eventually said, "How do we begin?"

"I have an idea for that." Daggat stepped onto the table, "The Silver Wolves and the Wise Wolves are near here." He pointed to the west side of the map with his tail, "They each are faster than the goblins. We convince them to fight quickly and have them ambush the goblins to the west. Most of the goblins to the north have been killed by their giant, so we do not need a strong force there. Reed leads men on a campaign to the north, picking up stray men on the way. Build your force as you travel, then wipe out the last of them."

He pointed at the south, "This is the least known force. Koarok will lead his orcs towards the south. There may be orc remnants that can be absorbed, bolstering your forces. We communicate through Elyndris and move our champions where we are most needed through the trees."

"Who is Elyndris?" Koarok asked.

The worm in question slithered off of Klaw and onto the table. She stood as proud as a creature like her could. Koarok made startled noises as she initiated a conversation with the orc.

"Wasn't she bigger? Less shiny?" Asked Ketil.

Daggat shrugged, "Monsters are weird, just leave it at that."

"Boss!" A small voice said next to Daggat. Glibby was standing next to him with a steaming cup. He hadn't noticed her leave the table. "For you!"

He took the cup and gave it a sniff. "What is it?"

"Tea! Glibby is good at making hot drinks. Rolling cigars, too. Glibby is no good at thinking stuff, but Glibby thought you were thirsty!"

"We had tea leaves?"

She shrugged. Daggat gave it a sip. It was strong, overly steeped, and bitter, "Hey!" he said, "How did you know I like it bitter? Thanks, Glibs."

Her ears fluttered, and she beamed, "Glibby is happy you like it."

"Sure, fill me up when I finish this one, will ya?"

Koarok cleared his throat, "This is all well and good, but you show your inexperience. What about provisions? Orcs must eat four times what goblins do while on the road. Humans eat as well. The forest is hurting for beasts to hunt, and the monsters have grown wise."

"Oh, no, I've got that covered. Do your people have an inventory system?"

"Storing things in the void?" Thrymja asked, "No, we do not know how."

"Only takes one skill point and plenty of charm," Daggat said.

"Charm is a crutch; it makes you weak." Koarok said, "We do not bother with it."

"Okay, first of all, I am offended." Daggat said, "Secondly… does anyone else know a way to get the inventory system? It is far too powerful to ignore."

"There are many ways to gain one," Reed said, "But I don't think we should teach the orcs how to be more efficient killers."

"We can carry what we need," Thrymja said.

"Well, fine. But it will be a LOT of meat, just warning you."

Koarok smiled, "Good. When are we doing this?"

"Give us a day with you," Daggat said, "I want you to beat the crap out of Klaw and Anath."

"What?" They both said at the same time.

"I'll explain later." Daggat said, "Reed, what's your opinion on goblins?"

"Not… high." He said with a flat face.

Daggat tsked, "Are you up for your task? We have ways of messaging you. We will keep in touch each morning."

"You need me to gather displaced men and lead them against displaced goblins?"

"Yes."

"When we are strong again, what is to stop me from clearing this forest of monsters?"

The table went quiet. Zuss was a blur, appearing behind him, "Let me explain." She said, "You can't. We are stronger than your best. Try, and you die. If by some miracle you do kill us all, then you signed your doom. Without us, this forest becomes just that, a forest. Not the dark, menacing world where goblins hide and wargs hunt. The other humans will come for it. Without our protection, you wild men would die out quickly."

The human glared at Zuss for a moment before turning his gaze away.

"I don't think a monster here will disagree with her," Daggat said, "You, unlike us, have a valid option. You can abandon your homelands and beg the cities to let you in. Or you can fight and accept that you are mortals living in a monster's world."

"We will fight." He said.

"Great!" Daggat said with a smile. "Don't be a disappointment."

"I'll go with him." Ketil said.

"No, you aren't," Daggat said. "You have a manor to fix."

"You want me to sit out on the fighting?" His voice had a tinge of heat to it.

"Honestly, not really. But your people pissed off the trees, and that's just inconvenient for us. So you stay put."

Ketil grumbled for a while, but one by one the gathered guests left, leaving to prepare for the near future. Daggat ran to catch up to Hrodebert before he left.

"Buddy, hold on a moment."

"What is it?"

"Look, I know a lot of what we talked about puts you and the trees under a lot of strain. I might be asking to use their root system fairly heavily. Is that going to be a problem?"

"You made a deal with the trees, but they won't be too happy with moving so many. It is unnatural."

"What can I do to make it up to them? You are our best asset."

"I know, the ability to move quickly is… useful. They may ask something of me, but I will try to convince them."

"Thanks, buddy. And don't worry, I know you aren't a fighter at heart; you don't have to hurt anyone."

His wooden cheeks cracked into a smile, "Thank you."
