Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Counterattack
After making the decision, Gavin prepared to act on the spot. He quickly scanned the area and selected two tall corpses. Meanwhile, the Blood Dragon Guards tied the three pirates together. Gavin swiftly retrieved the ritual materials he had prepared in advance and began the blood witch puppet ceremony.
In the terrified eyes of the three pirate captives, a horrifying scene unfolded: a corpse that had been dead for hours suddenly stood up.
By evening, Gavin had successfully created two Blood Dragon Guards. As darkness fell, the atmosphere around the area grew increasingly ominous.
The two newly created Blood Dragon Guards stood motionless, awaiting Gavin's orders.
The three tied-up pirates, consumed by fear, were on the verge of collapse, their eyes filled with despair.
Gavin, who had performed the ritual twice in succession, felt drained—not from mental or physical exhaustion but due to the substantial blood loss required for the ceremony. He estimated it would take at least two days for his body to fully recover.
Realizing he couldn't afford to wait, Gavin instructed, "Knock them out and carry them. We're leaving now."
At his command, the three Blood Dragon Guards rendered the captives unconscious. Each Blood Dragon Guard picked up a prisoner, and the group quickly vanished into the night.
In a dimly lit hall, Black Shark "Earl" sat, frowning as he listened to his subordinates' reports.
"Boss, that team hasn't returned yet, and there's no news. Before they left, they were tasked with searching the coast," one subordinate said, lowering his head nervously, his voice tinged with panic.
Black Shark "Earl" maintained a calm but authoritative demeanor. He replied coldly, "It seems the enemy hasn't penetrated deeply into the island. Send more people to search—this time, strengthen the patrols along the coast."
Just then, another subordinate hurried in, gasping for breath. "Boss! The men we sent found traces of the team, but..." He hesitated. "There are only eight bodies. Most were killed by arrows."
Black Shark "Earl's" face darkened instantly. His voice turned fierce as he ordered, "Take the archers and all the armor you can find. Don't bother capturing him alive. Kill him on sight and bring me his head!"
The hall was immediately filled with an oppressive silence as the subordinates nervously nodded and left.
The following evening, Gavin and his party moved cautiously into the dense forest with their captives.
Weakened from blood loss, Gavin tried using a quick-healing potion, but its effects were limited. It could only heal external injuries, not replenish his lost blood.
The decision to venture deep into the forest was out of necessity. Yesterday's actions had clearly drawn the pirates' attention.
Through reconnaissance by the Blood Dragon Guards, Gavin learned that the enemy had dispatched over 100 pirates this time. Most wore protective gear, and a few were clad in full-body plate armor. The enemy had clearly adapted to counter his archery skills.
Gavin assessed the situation and thought, "I could fight them now, but it wouldn't be wise to engage directly. Better to bide my time, recover, and create three more Blood Dragon Guards before striking back."
He also noted his advantages: a smaller, more agile force and captives who were familiar with the island.
Under Gavin's intimidation and promises of leniency, the captives cooperated and guided the group to more secluded areas. By nightfall, they found a safe cave to rest.
Two days later, the pirates, frustrated by their inability to locate Gavin, doubled their efforts. They extended their search into the island's dense forest, deploying even more manpower.
Meanwhile, Gavin sat against the stone wall of the cave, pale and weak. He looked at the six Blood Dragon Guards standing before him and couldn't help but smile. "It's time to fight back," he thought.
Gavin and his Blood Dragon Guards moved like shadows through the dense forest, avoiding large pirate groups and targeting smaller, isolated teams.
One such team, consisting of twenty pirates, trudged wearily through the forest.
"This damn forest! The mosquitoes here could eat a man alive!" a bearded pirate grumbled, waving his arms to fend off the insects.
"No kidding! I don't know what the higher-ups were thinking, sending us to this cursed place," a tall, thin pirate complained irritably.
"When we catch that guy, I'll make him regret being born!" a burly pirate growled, slamming his knife into a tree trunk for emphasis.
"That's right! I want him begging for death!" another pirate chimed in angrily.
Unbeknownst to them, danger loomed nearby. Gavin and his Blood Dragon Guards lay in wait, their figures blending seamlessly with the darkness.
Suddenly, an arrow whistled through the air, striking the lead pirate in the throat.
The group erupted into chaos. They raised their shields, and two archers hastily prepared their bows, attempting to locate Gavin. But before they could act, Gavin shot both dead with precision arrows.
At the same moment, two Blood Dragon Guards emerged from behind the group, launching a surprise attack. Simultaneously, two more Blood Dragon Guards attacked from the flanks, further disorienting the pirates.
"Enemy attack!" one pirate shouted in terror as the group descended into panic.
The Blood Dragon Guards moved swiftly and decisively, their weapons glinting coldly in the dim light.
One pirate raised his knife to defend himself, but a Blood Dragon Guard struck with such force that the pirate's weapon was shattered. The follow-through split the pirate in half, spraying blood everywhere.
Another Blood Dragon Guard was stabbed in the back by a desperate pirate. However, the attack had no effect—the Blood Dragon Guard didn't even flinch. It turned abruptly, grabbing the pirate's neck with an iron grip.
Under the terrified gaze of the struggling pirate, the Blood Dragon Guard twisted, snapping his neck with a sickening crunch. The pirate's head lolled lifelessly.
The remaining pirates, witnessing the sheer brutality of the Blood Dragon Guards, were paralyzed with fear. Their wide eyes betrayed their utter despair.
