Chapter 35: Chapter 35 Night attack
A Blood Dragon Guard, surrounded by several pirates, showed no fear. He charged left and right, fists and feet striking with unrelenting force. Blows from the pirates' weapons landed on him, but they were futile against his undead resilience.
One pirate, seizing an opportunity, stabbed his longsword into the Blood Dragon Guard's back. The blade sank deep, yet the Blood Dragon Guard remained unfazed. He sidestepped gracefully and, with a backhand punch, shattered the pirate's chest. The sickening crunch of breaking bones echoed as the pirate fell lifelessly to the ground, blood pooling beneath him.
The sight of such a fearless, unyielding monster spread terror through the remaining pirates. Fear turned to panic, and their will to fight crumbled.
In moments, the pirate team was annihilated. Two Blood Dragon Guards picked up unconscious prisoners and carried them swiftly to Gavin.
Without a word, Gavin waved his hand, signaling for retreat. Silently, the group vanished into the dense forest.
The sounds of battle had attracted reinforcements, and other pirate groups were now converging on the scene. But Gavin and his party had already broken through the encirclement, heading towards the coast.
Ten Days Later
Standing atop a windswept cliff overlooking Shipwreck Bay, Gavin gazed down at the pirate camp below. Beside him stood 15 Blood Dragon Guards, eight clad in gleaming full plate armor.
The last ten days had been transformative. Through relentless guerrilla warfare, Gavin had annihilated over 100 pirates and captured a wealth of weapons and equipment.
With each battle, his forces grew stronger. The number of Blood Dragon Guards increased, and Gavin himself rarely needed to join the fray anymore. The pirates were left baffled, unable to discern the size of Gavin's army due to the complete annihilation of their search parties.
Two days prior, the pirates had withdrawn entirely to their camp, abandoning their pursuit. Gavin speculated they were either unwilling to expend more resources or planning a counteroffensive. It mattered little now.
He studied the pirate camp, noting its layout. The town lacked fortifications, with only a few wooden watchtowers scattered about. The guards appeared lax, unaware of the storm brewing in the shadows.
Nightfall
The darkness of night enveloped Shipwreck Bay, a thick, impenetrable shroud. Gavin led his 15 Blood Dragon Guards like phantoms through the blackness, their silent movements blending seamlessly with the shadows.
These Blood Dragon Guards, flesh-and-blood puppets crafted from corpses, were emotionless and impervious to pain or fear. They followed Gavin's commands with unwavering loyalty, embodying the perfect soldiers.
The pirate town lay eerily quiet. The watchtowers, manned by drowsy guards, stood as the only semblance of defense.
Gavin moved stealthily, his bow in hand, an arrow already nocked. In the faint moonlight, the arrowhead glinted with a cold, lethal sheen.
The bowstring twanged softly, and an arrow sliced through the night, embedding itself in a guard's throat. The pirate toppled silently from the watchtower, dead before he hit the ground.
Gavin nocked another arrow and loosed it in one fluid motion, killing a second guard in his sleep.
With the watchtowers neutralized, Gavin and his forces entered the town like ghosts. Guided by intelligence extracted from captives, they moved with purpose, weaving through the shadows towards the hall where Black Shark "Earl" resided.
The hall, built from weathered logs, stood at the center of the pirate camp. Its aged wood exuded a musty scent of time and decay.
Six Blood Dragon Guards remained at the entrance to intercept reinforcements, while Gavin and the remaining guards pushed through the doors with decisive force.
The air inside reeked of alcohol and sweat. Startled guards scrambled to grab their weapons, but Gavin was faster. His blade flashed, cutting down a groggy guard in a single stroke. Blood sprayed across the floor, pooling grotesquely around the body.
The Blood Dragon Guards followed with merciless precision. One wielded a massive blade, cleaving through an enemy in a single devastating blow. Another used brute strength to lift a guard off the ground, slamming him down with bone-shattering force.
The hall became a slaughterhouse. Blood splattered the walls, and the screams of dying pirates filled the air before fading into silence.
Gavin moved toward the rear of the hall, his eyes filled with resolve. With a forceful kick, a Blood Dragon Guard smashed open the door to the private quarters.
Inside stood Black Shark "Earl," hastily armed and still clad in his pajamas. His eyes darted between Gavin and the towering Blood Dragon Guards.
"Gavin Belleris?" he asked, his voice edged with disbelief.
Gavin smiled faintly. "That's right. And you must be the infamous Pirate King, Black Shark 'Earl.'"
The pirate's eyes narrowed as he scrutinized Gavin and his undead guards. "It seems you didn't end up on this island by accident. Who sent you? The Thorn family? Or perhaps another benefactor?"
Gavin's lips curled into a smirk. "No one sent me. In fact, I did end up here by accident. But thanks to you, I've made good use of my time."
Black Shark "Earl" tightened his grip on his weapon, his expression hardening. The tension in the room was palpable, the final confrontation inevitable.
