Final Messiah System

Chapter 9: Greeting Card

Was this it? Was he gonna get found out? Were the demons already on their way here?

He stood up immediately, getting ready for the worst.

"I would like to ask that you join our endeavors to fight against demons."

David blinked for a few moments, about to speak, stammering as his words are caught by his throat.

"He would be delighted to!" Elizabeth spoke out for David, hugging him excitedly.

Mary nodded along. "That would be amazing, we can work together to rid the world of such evil and wickedness! Isn't that wonderful?"

Her eyes sparkled a little as she turned to David like an excited puppy.

"Uhh I uhm hmm I- why me? This is really sudden. I don't know what to say."

"While the reconstruction of Nepesh would be quite quick, the investigation shall still continue as to how this happened."

She raises her hand. "Detect Lifeform. Detect New Presence."

Instantly, two red lights emanated from her body and covered the whole church. As soon as it hit David and the others, they glowed gold.

"Seal Room." Alexandra then snapped her fingers, causing a nearly transparent dome to appear over everyone, sealing them inside.

"For the safety of others, I need no watching eyes."

Alexandra took a deep breath and spoke clearly, raising her hand to her chest. "When the attacks on your school occurred, we were ambushed just like I announced. However, what also happened were a series of other attacks and ambushes all across the world."

David's eyes widened as he realized that this whole situation was much worse than expected. Did he do this? Was the System to blame? Was Thamiel right?

Mary gasped, covering her mouth as she stepped back. "A-All across the world? A-at the same time?!"

Alexandra nodded as she pulled out the world map from her inventory, showcasing several glowing points.

"All Six Great Nations, from the Makai Empire to the Ryu Kingdom. Many of our allies were attacked, yes we managed to fend them off and are attempting to ensure that news is carefully portioned out as to not cause mass hysteria."

She then looked down and took a deep breath. "However, we sustained heavy damages and need some time to recuperate while we deal with the aftermath and investigation. While doing so, we need to have more men and women out in the field to combat any more attacks."

Elizebeth shook her head. "I don't think I would want my son to take part in these missions. That's far too much for anyone his age. And I don't think you should join Mary, you're still a young girl with plenty of life to give!"

"It is your choice, if you refuse I will have to erase all memory of this event as to ensure that no news of this could spread. But, anyone could join, and we offer the best training for both of their Systems and will only send them on appropriately leveled missions."

She raised her hand as well, summoning forth a staff. "And those who we send out on missions, we offer the best equipment as well as monetary support if needed. This is a level of utmost concern and importance, it is alright to not accept it. I shall give you a moment to think."

Alexandra then stepped out of the dome.

For a few moments, there was silence, nobody said anything. Going on essentially covert missions for the church was extremely dangerous, and he didn't want to leave his mother alone.

"Questline Added: Demon Exterminator. Accept the missions from the Amaranth to remove demons from this world."

Well, that made this decision much easier.

David stood up. "I think I'm going to have to take it mom. This is a chance to stand out and make a difference. And as she probably told you."

He then pulled out his [Cleric System Mask].

"It's what I've been called to do. I don't think it's no coincidence that I got this System today, and I think it will bring me more than whatever we could think of."

Mary stood up beside David, holding his hand. "This is far too dangerous. I don't want to lose you dear. I don't think I could handle that, first your father, then your sister…"

David's heart sank as he looked away, trying to get a certain memory out of his head. "I-it won't be like that, we have the whole Amaranth behind us, and Mary will help too!"

He looked to Mary, trying to get support as she stood up and nodded along.

"You can trust me. I'll do what I always do and keep him out of trouble no matter what."

An awkward laugh escaped David's mouth as he turned back to his mom. "See, we'll be fine and you wouldn't need to work anymore if we do our missions right. Doesn't that sound great?"

Elizabeth sighed and looked away. "They grew up so quickly. I guess it's time for you to go up and get out there into the world. Just don't get hurt please and there's no shame in running if it gets too dangerous."

David nodded along, a small smile growing on his face as he hugged the both of them. "I'll make sure to keep that in mind. I think I can also ask them to take care of you too."

She started to cry a little, sniffling softly before David wiped away her tears. "I-I don't think that's necessary dear."

"It is to me."

He let go and turned around, nearly jumping as he saw Alexandra standing right before him.

"H-How long-"

"Long enough, thank you for your decisions, and yes, your mother shall be safe with us. As long as she can abide by our rules, it will all work out."

David sighed in relief and gave his mother a thumbs up. "See, it's going to be fine."

He turned to face back to Alexandra. "When do we start?"

"We can start after three days of rest, but first, we must have all our backlogs in order. I recommend you inform any family members and relatives of this decision. You may still back out during this time frame, but after three days, you will need to sign a contract to state that you will abide by our order. Understood?"

All three of them nodded along to Alexandra's command, causing a small smile to grow on her face. "Excellent. When the time is up, we shall come for you. Now, you may all go. Thank you for your time."

She raised her hand into the air, causing the dome around them all to disappear before walking away, leaving the rest to their own devices.

----------

It wasn't long until everyone returned back to Ascalon where they saw that many of those with the [Builder] System, already had begun reconstruction.

At this point, it was already near the evening so everyone just said their goodbyes and drove away without any questions asked.

David actually went back to the parking lot, finding his motorbike there, relatively unscathed too even amongst all the rubble.

He smiled to himself and brought it to his mother's car, placing it in the back trunk.

"This vehicle has been analyzed and is able to be upgraded with proper materials."

"Wait really? That's great… can you uh… don't the recipe for how to make it fly?… and also add missile launchers, and lasers… and- you know what I'll tell the rest later."

"I shall begin creating them as needed."

"Yes! Finally!"

He stretched out his arms, looking up at the starry sky where the moon shone on the world.

For the first time ever, everything simply felt so new, so fresh. There was a sense of wonder that was born again.

It was finally time for him to shine. If only his sister could see him now.

He wondered what she would say.

"David?"

Mary's voice startled him as he nearly tripped on the air.

"O-oh sorry. You just seemed lost in thought."

She smiled and walked over to him while he regained balance.

"It's fine, I'm just surprised to see you here. Isn't your house further away after you moved?"

"It is. I just wanted to say that you seemed a little different- not in a bad way, but you seem more confident and less out of it."

David scratched his head and looked away awkwardly, giving out a forced laugh. "I guess finally having a decent System after all this time helps you know."

"It does… it's wonderful isn't it. The power, the responsibility. We're able to do so much more now, especially for others."

She turned to look at the school, then above to where the Amaranth ships were.

"I can't believe it… this whole day, just one surprise after another, and I feel like it's going to get even crazier. B-but don't worry, I'm sure we can be there every step of the way!"

"…I'm really sorry I couldn't be there for you more, and that my training got in the way of our friendship…"

She looked down for a bit, giving off a sigh before she then turned to hug David. "Once more, happy birthday. I hope you do well."

And with that, a car horn blared out in the distance. "Ah, that's for me, I'll see you soon!"

She then ran off, leaving David alone with his thoughts as he looked up into the sky muttering.

"Every step of the way…"
