Chapter 10: Preparation
The drive home with his mother was short. There was nothing that needed to be said really.
Elizabeth blasted music from the radio too so he couldn't really hear his own thoughts.
He didn't mind this though, she always did it and he learned to enjoy it over time.
When they got home, the both of them immediately started packing up, luckily they were aided by his mother's robotic constructs.
Since his mother was an Engineer class, she spent most of her levels and skills on creating robots to do her work for her.
Usually, she would have one of them drive, but that one was destroyed during the demon ambush, and she would need time to rebuild.
But she still had plenty at home to do the chores and work, so immediately she issued a command to have all of them pack up.
One of the most personal ones was a humanoid butler who wore a suit named Bastion.
He would talk in an accent and was extremely helpful in every duty he was programmed with, which was to say, basically anything that Elizabeth wanted to make him do.
Bastion was equipped with cleaning, laundry, cooking, and of course in this case: packing.
"Yes ,Madam. I shall commence the packing." Bastion then began to zoom around the house, meticulously placing objects into special boxes with such speed and precision that nothing, not even a piece of paper was torn nor a glass broke.
"If I may ask, where are we headed towards, Madam?"
Elizabeth walked around, double-checking if all things were in order. "We're going to live with the Amaranth now; my little boy finally got a job!"
"Ah. Immediately after he awakened his System? Huzzah, preparations are in order then, shall I make a cake?"
He began to arrange the boxes neatly onto the ground floor while David was in his room, yelling out.
"Uh, maybe not today? We can do so after I complete my first mission!"
David trusted Bastion of course, but he wanted to have some privacy so he asked if he could clean his room himself.
He moved out his comics, manga, as well as his many devices such as his computer.
Thanks to his mother it was upgraded enough that it could run holographically, creating a 3-D input and output system.
It didn't take long for him to pack up; he never really had many things to do, no small hobbies or activities, and usually he would just read, play, or sleep.
But it looks like that's changing for the better.
"Ah, understood. But you have my blessings, and whatever may be worth it, Happy Birthday again young sir."
"Thanks Bastion… thanks."
----------
The days went by quickly and without any problems whatsoever.
None of them really had any distant relatives to talk to about it, and Elizabeth already informed Ascalon about the change in her location.
By the third day, right in the morning, the door rang as a familiar voice echoed.
"Elizabeth Ben Salo and David Ben Salo. I, Sir Marcus Alvarez of the 1st Order, have come to ask for your final decision on this matter."
It was the same voice as the Paladin they met back on the ship.
David opened the door, and sure enough, the Paladin was there, but he appeared to be in civilian clothing of sorts with a white t-shirt, blue jacket and jeans.
"Oh, well. Yes." David stood firm, standing up to the absolute unit of a man who stood over a foot or so over him.
"Good, pack your things in the following cars here."
Marcus moved out of the way to showcase the numerous plain looking cars by the front of the street.
"Tell me when it's all done so that we can continue in the next phase."
He then went to open his phone and acted as if he was just some ordinary person waiting for something.
"Oh- understood." David was a little taken aback from this. But it made sense, they wanted to ensure it was as covert as possible.
So it didn't take long for Bastion to carry and haul all of their supplies to their trunks, now neighbors watched but Elizabeth and David both said they were heading on a roadtrip to get some air after the attack.
Which was technically true anyhow.
Once they were done, Marcus gestured to the lead car and got in the front seat once all of them were all inside.
And without any more questions asked they raced off into the distance while the other cars had automated driving, following them along but ensured to look like they were being driven normally.
Nearly an hour later, they arrived at the center of Nepesh, where the largest church in the city was located.
It was a grand white building that appeared to be a castle. It stood several stories tall, outfitted with several enchantments as well as manned by numerous Paladins, Knights, Clerics, Priests, and Priestesses.
The were also numerous smaller buildings around it that were part of the land it was on where agencies, orphanages, hospitals and so on were located here as well.
Amaranth went into the business of trying to make the world a better place in honor of their hero and founder. However, this did lead them open to stretching themselves a little thin at times.
Which is probably why they needed more help in the first place.
Marcus drove them to an underground parking space, just beneath the church. However, he made a right turn and ran straight into a wall, phasing right through it as he drove into a stylized room with large brass frames and baroque artworks across the walls that had an intricate floral pattern.
"We're here." He gave a blunt response, standing up from the car as he opened up the doors, his outfit changing back to Paladin Armor as he helped the others out.
"Oh, thank you sir." Elizabeth gave a small smile while she got David and Bastion out.
"You're welcome. Follow me, and make sure to stick close by, it gets quite crowded."
He then walks to the door on the right, opening it up as he gestured inside. "Welcome, to the Armaranth. We are pleased to have you join us."
David and Elizabeth entered, their eyes widening as their jaws nearly dropped to the floor.
Through the door, they found themselves staring at the interior of a castle. A massive castle with marble floors, and large pillars that reached up what seemed to be hundreds of floors up.
Banners of red, white, and gold littered across the banisters upon numerous floors.
There seemed to be hundreds of people moving back and forth, teleporting from one floor to another as they were surrounded by holograms and familiars that constantly exchanged information.
Many of them were reading, and those that looked like warriors were currently marching in unison to another room that was closed off.
In the center of the room, right at the very middle, was a statue that stretched to the top floor of a man in a suit of armor with four great wings behind his back wielding a jagged sword.
He had a banner wrapped around his body, and on it were words embroiled in gold.
"To Hope And Glory."
