Exploring Technology in a Wizard World

Chapter 769: Massacre Scene

Seeing numerous attacks flying toward him, Sande's face changed, and he quickly condensed a dark Energy Shield for defense. However, under the intense barrage of attacks, it soon became unsustainable.

Galuo seized the opportunity, his body bursting with purple light as he charged toward Sande rapidly. Stretching out one hand, he tried to grab at Sande's throat and demanded, "Kid, tell me, how did you manage to escape those who were chasing you before? If you don't tell me, you're going to die!"

Sande swiftly retreated, and during his retreat, he suddenly looked up, giving a weird smile, "Ha, fool, can't you figure it out? Of course, someone helped me!"

"Who?" Galuo asked urgently.

"The one who will kill you," Sande's expression turned cold.

"Huh?" Galuo was puzzled.

"Why do you think I brought you all to this open ground? It's to make it easier for them to kill you," said Sande, his expression chilling as he suddenly waved his hand, shooting out an Energy Missile to stop Galuo from getting closer.

Then he violently turned his head and gave his entire back to Galuo, rushing toward the distant forest at high speed, yelling, "Go to hell, you bastards who killed Sofia!"

Hearing Sande's words and seeing him flee, Galuo frowned and was about to launch an attack on Sande. But before he could act, he felt a sense of deadly danger descending upon him.

In the next moment, Galuo almost instinctively activated a pendant Magic Tool, and a solid earthen-gray Energy Shield appeared in an instant.

Immediately afterward, there was a muffled "bang," and the energy shield shook violently, apparently blocking some attack.

A chill ran through Galuo, and judging from the shaking of the shield, he guessed the attack was extremely powerful. If he had not activated the shield, he might have been a corpse by now.

However, he didn't have time to feel relieved. Being cautious, he quickly chanted a spell, releasing multiple Magic Shields to solidly protect his body, before turning around to warn others to be careful.

But before he could speak, his expression froze solid.

What did he see?

He saw a massacre.

Yes, a massacre.

Around him, many wizards from the Truth Society, their faces pale, were hastily releasing spells, attempting to counter some unknown attacks.

But they couldn't block them.

Whether it was the Energy Shields or the rock shields created from the soil on the ground, they shattered with a "crash." Then, those behind the shields fell down with a "thump," their lives taken.

One, two, three...

The number of those standing around him visibly reduced at a rapid pace, until only he was left.

This!

The swift change from before to after left Galuo almost unable to react.

After some time, he took a deep breath, forcibly calming himself, and again cast several Magic Shields around him, vigilantly scanning his surroundings.

He didn't know when, but the attack had stopped, and corpses were everywhere; only he stood alone—as if forgotten by the attacker.

But soon, he realized he had not been forgotten by the attacker. The other party had simply chosen to deal with him last after their first attack failed.

"Huh—"

The air moved, and a figure descended from the sky, landing on the ground and slowly walking towards him.

As the figure approached, their hand raised. Almost without any visible action, a dark light shot toward him, fiercely hit the shield, causing the shield to tremble violently.

The figure raised their hand again, the black light struck once more, and with a "crash," the last energy shield shattered.

However, there were still five shields left to defend.

The figure looked, raised their hand again, and the imperceptible black light continuously flew over. Galuo desperately maintained them with his Mana, but no matter how hard he tried, the shields imploded and shattered one by one.

By the time the figure approached him, only the last, extremely thin shield was left, which couldn't block any significant attack.

To counter the attacker's assault, Galuo had used up all his Mana, and he was now extremely weak, almost incapable of resisting.

Slowly lifting his head, Galuo looked at the figure. He saw a very young man dressed in nondescript black clothes, his face calm, not appearing like someone who had just orchestrated a massacre.

Galuo suppressed his shock, looking at the person, he asked, "Who... who are you exactly? Did you help that boy escape and kill those who were chasing him? What is your relationship with that boy? Are you his elder? Friend?"

The person slowly spoke, "Actually, I'm neither that person's elder nor his friend, at most a temporary partner. But I'm quite relieved that you would guess that. Because my goal is to make you think that I'm his friend, elder, teacher."

"Why?" Galuo was very puzzled, eager to know more clues to resolve his confusion.

But the person did not answer anymore and raised their hand instead.

Galuo looked at the thin green Energy Shield in front of him, feeling the empty Magic Origin, and was fully prepared to be killed—the attack from the other person could not be blocked by him anymore.

However, the death he imagined did not come immediately.

The young man standing in front of him slowly raised his hand as if about to strike. Suddenly, his movement paused, he raised an eyebrow, and stopped.

Then Galuo heard the other person muttering, "Hm? Have all the models of Deceit Needle already been used up? It seems like the consumption was a bit too large; I should be more cautious in the future. Since that's the case..."

"Hey, what do you mean by that?" Galuo asked.

The person spoke softly, "It means nothing."

"Even if it means something, you don't need to know; it would only add to your troubles. Anyway, goodbye."

After speaking, the person produced a blood-red Short Wand in their hand, and without looking, directed it toward him. Then, a streak of blood-light shot out, tearing through the shield in front of Galuo and striking his body.

"Bang!"

Galuo's body shook violently, uncontrollably falling towards the ground as his consciousness rapidly sank into darkness.

Before dying, his mind was filled with countless questions: Who exactly was the young man in front of him? Why did he help their target? What did this person want to do? What were his words meant to signify? Why were the offensive methods so peculiar? What was the principle behind the attacker's methods, why couldn't they be resisted? And more...

So many things he could not understand.

With great reluctance, Galuo closed his eyes.

...
