Chapter 154: Magic Contract Failed
Elise was dumbfounded by how the magic contract she signed at the very beginning of her capture didn't take effect.
Although there were times when Death Guards would occasionally slip up information, the severity depended on how valuable the information was.
The magic contract could automatically classify them and ensure that any contract violators would receive their due punishment instantaneously.
The Wrathbane Extract research and the berserk slaves outbreak were all classified as top confidential.
In other words, she should have been struck by lightning.
"What's the matter?" Her stunned and dazed expression caught Leonard's eye. He was confused by her behavior and wondered if she was still being affected by the poison.
Elise gazed at him with a hesitant look.
'Forget it… he already purged my poison, so I might as well reveal it.' She decided to take the risk and talk about the magic contract.
Now that the poison had been eradicated, she was able to gain some clarity and understand that her little sister might be gone already.
It didn't even need to take a few days, granted that with Darius's perverse and sadistic behavior, her little sister could have been sentenced to death.
Or worse, she might have been taken in as her replacement to be toyed with by Darius.
Had she not been snatched over, then tonight was the day when she had to serve Darius in exchange for her and her little sister's survival. Such was the life of a death guard, bound by the magic contract!
Sometime later, Leonard came to an understanding of the existence of magic contracts being signed by the death guards.
'Now that is odd…' His brows furrowed. He also had his own magic contract with others, so he knew how effective they were. It was almost impossible to avoid the punishment in the contract clauses.
One could resist if they were powerful enough, but the oddity here was that Elise didn't suffer any form of punishment.
"Are you sure you don't feel anything amiss?" Leonard asked suspiciously.
"Other than the pain from extracting the poison, there's nothing else." Elise shook her head.
She was about to speak further until a small residual of blood had leaked out from the corner of her mouth. The blood dropped down and burned some of her fabric, indirectly exposing her perky white chest.
Leonard was taken aback by the sudden exposure.
As for Elise, she didn't even bother to cover herself, having been extremely weak to even move a muscle.
Instead, she glanced at the blood that was dripping down.
"You should be careful." She warned softly.
"My blood might not have the lethal poison anymore. But having been inside me for so long, it's still somewhat corrosive."
Nodding, Leonard handed her a healing potion, which she rejected.
"I don't plan on staying for long in this foul area." Leonard insisted.
Elise's nose was quickly hit with the feces smell when he suddenly brought up the topic.
It would have been fine if he said nothing, but once he did, her mind started to jolt awake, and her five senses became active.
She extended her hand, trying to accept the potion.
"What do you say?" Leonard questioned.
Elise's eyes narrowed, but she suppressed her anger.
"P-Please…" She requested.
"Now that's more like it." He snickered and gave her the healing potion.
In the blink of an eye, Elise began chugging the potion rapidly, causing some of the liquid to drip from the corner of her mouth. As the liquid dripped and poured down to her exposed chest, Leonard became silent.
Was she trying to seduce him?
Or was she trying to make him look away?
No matter what her intention was, Leonard had no plan of looking away from an enemy.
They might not be fighting now. But who was to say that Elise wouldn't suddenly change her mindset and seek an opportunity to assassinate him? Elise wasn't the same kind as Irene, who was fragile and weak.
Moreover, Leonard no longer dared to be careless and believed the defensive barrier around him was omnipotent.
That one lesson was enough for him to understand that even the most powerful magic could be rendered useless.
Sometime later, Elise recovered the majority of her injuries.
"Can you get up?" Leonard asked.
She nodded her head and promptly got up, albeit with some awkward movement. Having extracted all the poison, her mana was also at a low reserve.
To mages, mana was like the stamina and energy of a regular person. Once it ran out, they would become exhausted and fatigued.
As Elise proceeded to walk ahead and returned to the garden under Leonard's instruction, the woman waiting at the front was bewildered by the sight.
They noticed how Leonard was energetic and elegant, whereas Elise appeared exhausted and almost out of breath. Her clothes being torn and ripped, especially with some exposed skin, also didn't help with the situation in what their mind was thinking.
"The Crown Prince really ravaged her?" Mirelle was baffled.
Caroline remained silent, unsure of what to say. Even she found it incomprehensible for this kind of scene.
Claudia's gaze remained locked on Elise. A few moments later, she shook her head and knew that the deed that others thought had occurred was false. Besides Claudia, the others in the Rosalia Troupe also realized Elise was still a virgin.
Nevertheless, the confusion only increased further as they didn't know what was happening for Elise to be in such a state.
However, what caused them to be astonished was the next words that Leonard uttered.
"Woo, this whore sure is delicious to taste! I must thank Marquis Darius for such a great gift!" Leonard made sure to amplify his voice loud enough to reverberate in the area.
Elise's expression turned complicated upon hearing his words.
'Why is he trying to provoke Marquis Darius?' She was the only one who knew Leonard had not once looked at her with lustful gazes. Yet his remark just now was no different than the lecherous scumbag who treated women like dirt.
