Chapter 72: Practice gone wrong!
Fira was a bit perplexed upon hearing this. While she had no problem talking to him in Elvish, it had only been a day, and he was asking her to converse with him in Elvish. She completely denied the thought that he had learned to hold conversations in the Elvish tongue.
'He is only a lower human with no talent—it isn't possible for him to learn the language.'
If she started learning a language from scratch, it would likely take her a day too, with her racial trait of having good memory from being a half-elf, and her talent also helped, as she had abilities that would enhance her learning capabilities.
"Alright, Arthur. Once you learn the language, I am happy to converse with you in the Elvish tongue."
Arthur had a confused look on his face as he replied to her.
"No, I am talking about right now. Let's talk for a bit. I haven't learned everything about the language—all the words—but I am confident that I have enough knowledge to hold a proper basic conversation."
Fira found it hard to believe what he had claimed, but she accepted and wanted to see how he would hold a conversation with her in the Elvish tongue.
'He would surely embarrass himself in front of me. He is the one who is boasting, so let's see how he embarrasses himself in front of me.'
She already believed he wouldn't believe a word she would say, so she said what was on her mind.
"Arthur, you were very cute today when you were having lunch, throwing a tantrum, but I don't like how you tried to embarrass me so many times, so be prepared—I am gonna settle the score with you."
[Note: Both languages would be written in English—just imagine they are talking in the Elvish tongue.]
If it was before, Arthur could have thought of it as only incomprehensible sounds; however, now it would be different.
However, as fast as she had said such a big line, he only understood the first sound she made, which was his name, Arthur, and everything else went over his head.
'Is this how you talk to someone who is having a conversation in this language for the first time?'
He was quite annoyed. Without hiding the annoyance in his voice, he told her to say everything a bit slowly, if possible one or two words at a time.
He noticed the smug look on her face, which irritated him a little, as she was definitely making fun of him.
Fira was feeling quite smug seeing him get annoyed at her.
'You have made fun of me so many times—now it's your turn. Hehehe.'
She didn't do as he told her to and slowly repeated everything, but still, it was impossible to get any of it, and the most he would likely do was get his name right.
Arthur slowly, bit by bit, joined the broken words he had understood from her, and he got what she was saying completely.
'Oh, is that what you were saying to me, Fira?'
'I was very cute, and you are gonna get back at me for embarrassing you.'
'Let me teach you a lesson.'
Arthur had made a plan in his mind to teach her an embarrassing lesson she would never forget in her life.
But to do that, he had to act a bit clueless for a while.
"Ah, Fira, I didn't get what you said, but could you say something else to me? I think I would be able to get it after a few times, so you continue and make sure it shouldn't be too fast."
"I-I really have l-learned the Elvish Language."
Arthur acted like someone who had lost his game and showed her that he was not confident now through his act. Seeing the smug look on her face—even a corner of her mouth had curled only slightly—he knew she was enjoying it.
He didn't say anything and played her game, as he would be the one to have the last big laugh.
"Okay, I will say something else, but are you sure you will be able to get it this time?" Fira said.
'Hahaha, my time has finally come to embarrass him for every time he had embarrassed me.'
She wasn't going to stop her fun, so she continued with smugness etched on her face.
'What should I say? Hmm, do I really have to think when he wouldn't get anything?'
She had already cast a spell that would block any voice from leaving outside. While there weren't many people present, she didn't want anyone to hear their private conversation.
'I can make fun of him, but no one else can.'
She said things that were in her mind and didn't hold back anything.
"Arthur, you do know you have no talent. If you go outside with your appearance, you will surely be enslaved by someone else. While enslaving others is a strict taboo, it could still be done in some other ways. Our fate would not be good, but don't worry—I have your back."
"Everything would be alright even if you go outside, and in the end, you will work for me. I will treat you well, so don't worry about a thing."
These were the things in her heart she couldn't tell him right now, as she didn't want to be the one who would try to stop him from trying to achieve his dreams, and her plan was perfect, so he would be fine.
"Did you get anything?" The smugness on her face was vivid, as she wasn't even trying to hide it even a bit now—she was too confident after seeing him stutter in front of her.
The information he had gotten from her just now made Arthur see her in an even better light. He knew her background, so what she had claimed just now, she could definitely do.
"Urgh! O-One more time, just one more time," Arthur said. The helplessness on his face was visible.
He kept up his act, as he was really curious to know what more she was gonna share with him, thinking he didn't understand her.
