Chapter 58: Favors
Arthur doesn't know about Ivy's involvement in that incident, so he only tells her what he knows of it, but not without hiding some facts.
"I have found out from the warden that I had awakened."
This is the second time she was shocked. This time she couldn't even hold back her reaction and interrupted him.
"Really?"
Arthur confirmed her word and told her he had more to tell.
He told her about the fact that Ivy had told him he had no talent at all, but he was not convinced as he wanted to travel the outside world. It was the new dream he had after losing his previous identity.
Hearing him say he had no talent, which he heard from Ivy, she believed him due to the fact Ivy was the one to tell him that. It angered her a little, knowing what method she must have used to find that out.
'That woman had shown such disrespect to my friend. I would teach her a lesson one day.'
Hearing him go on, she heard his dream, but knowing his talent, she felt genuine pity. She thought he must have given up after getting the reality check from Ivy.
He told how, because of his poor talent, he was exempted from the training camp by Ivy.
But Fira noticed something just now—from the very first time he started telling her, he is calling the warden by her actual name: 'Ivy.'
She believed there was no one here who knew her name, especially knowing the fact that she was only a temporary warden.
'What's going on? How does he know her name, and why is he calling her by her first name?'
"I am sorry to interrupt you once more, Arthur, but how do you know the warden's real name?" Fira asked with a voice filled with curiosity.
Arthur had used her real name so she wouldn't doubt him even for a second, as his story did seem a bit fake.
He replied to her, saying that if she heard the last part, she would understand.
Arthur hid the fact about Ivy torturing him and only told her that he convinced her, so she had allowed him to leave the mine whenever he thought he was ready. As to how he knew her name, it was only because he had been given a document stating these terms, and her name was signed at the end.
"Ivy Greenhearts."
Firiel had believed everything he had said up till now without any question, but for the last part, she found it a bit hard to believe.
While she could take pity on him and exempt him from the training camp, going as far as using her family name to let him walk away from here as he wished is not normal. She believed there was something Arthur was hiding from her.
She didn't believe just because he was attractive Ivy would do him a favor and even use her family name.
'Arthur must be hiding something from me.'
She was not going to pressure him to tell her when he had chosen to hide it from her, but from the way he had told her, she knew he was telling the truth. He must have gotten the document like he had said, as it also explained how he knew her name.
Firiel had learned a few interesting things about her new friend Arthur, which seem to explain why he seems to be quite different from the previous him—because he had lost his memory.
It would have been hard for her to believe he wanted to travel the outside world, but knowing what had happened to him and how he lost his memory and desired to dream of traveling the outside on his own terms and having freedom, she found his resolve a bit admiring. This was especially true after he knew he could have the worst talent.
'Ivy had said "worst," which would likely mean he had no talent at all.'
'But does he need my help after telling me all this? If he wants something that would improve his talent, I don't think I have something like that. I'd have to disappoint him if he asked me that.'
'I can provide him a bodyguard that could protect him, but that doesn't seem like the way he had described his dream. He would not likely like that idea.'
But it does seem to her from his resolved eyes that sooner or later he is going to leave. She fears he would likely be in trouble. So she had decided that when that happened, she would send a person after him who would be able to protect him.
After saving him, they would bring him to her—the real her—and she would hire him as a butler in her house.
'That's such a good plan. I will be able to kill two birds with one stone. He would give up his foolish thought and also be grateful to her and then work for her because of it.'
She would give him much better treatment as her friend, which seemed like the perfect scenario for her.
"What do you need from me, Arthur?" Fira said.
Firiel is a bit curious about how bad his talent is, that the failed heir of the Greenhearts clan would say it's the worst talent she had seen in her life.
But she would not be disrespectful like Ivy and do a mana search on him just because he is weak and can't resist. If it was someone else, she would have likely done it without a thought, but not for her friend.
Arthur, hearing her, decided not to hold back at all.
"Fira, I need books that would help me learn about magic and cultivation. Once I am done with them, I will give them back to you, or I could even copy them somewhere if you need them."
He doesn't feel that good asking for so many favors left and right. While he knows things are small for them, to him they made a world of difference.
'Once I grow stronger, I will repay these favors.'
