Chapter 55: The Mystery of the Soap?
Arthur thought about checking the new talent he had gotten, but he noticed the time on the clock, which was showing him 8:34 AM.
'I have to leave checking that for later. It's breakfast time, and I am feeling hungry too.'
He had asked Ivy to stay until he prepared, then leave, but he should have asked for an exemption from the work too.
'I would have much more time to train and to do research.'
He does have time after work, as he only has to work for about 6 hours, in which there are a couple of breaks that you can take. He didn't complain, knowing he gets to live here without cost, so that little work could be the price for living.
Before leaving, he took out the last dress left in his wardrobe and put it on and also put the two pairs in the laundry bag.
He would have worn the same one that Ember had worn only for an hour or so, but he knew elves have a keen sense of smell and hearing, which is why he chose not to wear those and left them in the laundry bag.
While walking toward the dining hall, Arthur felt excited, knowing tomorrow was Saturday, which would give him two whole days for himself.
He is excited for tomorrow since he has gained the talent that will make him seem more talented now.
Feeling the mana around as he walked, he knew his mana resonance had increased too.
'There would be information while checking my talent, but I could still see what my mana resonance had become now.'
It should be the same as Fira, but he still wanted to see it. He had never checked his and only checked Ember's, which was 92, so he believed he should be able to see his own too.
He thinks in his mind, imagining himself seeing his mana resonance as a transparent red screen pops up in front of him, showing him the message.
[Mana Resonance: 92]
'Hell yeah.'
Seeing those numbers on the screen, his heart felt much calmer. He knew he had potential. Now he just had to work hard to become strong.
'I know it's still not comparable to Fira, but it's still good.'
Arthur entered the dining hall. He can feel many gazes on him like usual, but the whispers are more than usual. Still, he didn't stop and took a plate and started filling it with food. He knew the reason behind why the whispers were louder than usual.
'First, I caused a commotion yesterday with Fira, and they would have noticed the change in me too.'
He knew the previous Arthur was a bit of a loner. He wouldn't interact with anyone. The only time he would have interaction would be when they were the ones who had started the conversation, and that wouldn't last long.
But no matter how much of a loner he was, he was a good guy inside but a bit naive too. He would help other slaves when they would ask for help, saying their family outside needed money, and his previous naive self would believe their words.
Which they would spend on the market that would be set for the slaves on Saturday and Sunday. There are shops too around these which are open always, but on the holidays, it was much bustling.
'I had decided that I would pay a visit there tomorrow and try to find if I could find some books on magic.'
He didn't want to risk harming himself when he believed there were safer options around him. He hadn't used them because he had no mana to speak of and had no talent in magic at all.
He had felt the amount of mana inside his body had increased too because he could feel it without any requirement for him to call for the red transparent screen.
Arthur had noticed Fira in her usual place, Just like previous times, she had taken the same seat where she had sat next to him yesterday.
He still found it hard to believe that behind her above-average appearance, there was a gorgeous beauty hidden. But even more surprising is the fact she is even stronger than Ivy.
'I have to be close to her at all costs.'
'She would be a form of protection for me when the crazy bitch Ivy shows up.'
Without showing any reaction on the outside, Arthur reached and took the seat next to her.
'Hmm, there are a few extra elves inside today, and when I took a seat next to Fira, some of them gasped too, but it's not my problem. With how powerful Fira is, she would take care of anything.'
Arthur was not naive. He knew rumors about both of them were going around among both elves and slaves due to how close they seemed to each other these couple of days. And more importantly, that water barrier incident would have made them have many thoughts.
'I don't care what they think anyways.'
But Arthur felt off, as from what he knew, Liora and Zyra were the first two elves he had met who were so nice to him. They should have heard the rumors too, and from what he knew about them, they would have come knocking on him.
'I didn't see them either.' The only time I saw them was when I would go to the mine in the morning, and the meeting would be only for a minute or so.
He denied the idea that they were busy with their work. He had some memories of meeting them besides the time of their work, so how could he not even see them?
'There is something going on with both of them.'
Fira had seen Arthur taking a seat beside her. It warmed her heart, as they looked like true friends.
But after taking a seat, Arthur is not even eating and seems to be lost in his thoughts, and what weirded her more was the fact she is smelling a strong smell of soap from sitting beside him. And looking at the redness on his neck, hands, and even face, she knew something was off.
