Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Trembling in Fear
Yamiru used to think:
Even if he ever got the chance to witness the kind of intense battles seen in the later chapters of Dragon Ball—flying across the sky, energy beams casually unleashed, earth-shattering clashes—it would be at least another fifteen, sixteen, or even seventeen years away.
Turns out, he was wrong.
What he never expected was that, before he even found his beginner teacher to start martial arts training, and in a year when Kakarot wasn't even supposed to have landed on Earth yet, he would already encounter individuals zipping through the skies and hurling energy blasts left and right.
This wasn't right. It was all wrong.
Crouching behind a slope, Yamiru's mind was racing. As he drowned in his chaotic thoughts, the Gold Warrior, who was darting around in midair, pressed a mechanism on the left side of his chest armor. Out popped what looked like a toy gun.
The Gold Warrior grabbed it with a snap, aimed at the alien on the ground who was relentlessly firing energy blasts at him, and pulled the trigger. A beam of light shot out from the "toy gun's" muzzle, leaving a shimmering afterimage in Yamiru Vision. It struck the alien's dumbstruck frog-like face head-on, engulfing the entire being in an explosion, leaving not even a trace of hair behind.
Seeing this, Yamiru felt a chill run down his spine. A wave of helplessness swept over him. He felt like a Level 1 noob fresh out of the starting village, who had barely decided to venture out into the world only to stumble upon two Level 100 monsters duking it out in the wild—and one of them was wielding a +20 enhanced legendary weapon. "Trembling in fear" couldn't better describe his current predicament.
"Why the hell isn't that green-skinned guy in the sky intervening?!" Yamiru thought to himself in confusion. "These three down here had to be stronger than Demon King Piccolo, right? Wait, why do I think they're stronger than Demon King Piccolo?" A fleeting thought crossed his mind, but he couldn't quite catch it before it disappeared.
Of the two Frog Monsters (as Yamiru had dubbed the aliens), one was dead. The other gripped a longsword tightly and pointed it at the Gold Warrior, who remained utterly unbothered after killing its companion. The remaining Frog Monster was clearly rattled, especially wary of the energy pistol that had just disintegrated its partner.
With a snap, the Gold Warrior dropped the energy pistol to the ground.
"Haha, what's this? You're throwing away your weapon?" The remaining Frog Monster raised its sword, a mix of shock and glee flashing across its face as it grinned so wide it nearly split. "Trying to look cool? Foolish idiot!"
With that, it raised the sword high and charged.
"You're the idiot!" the Gold Warrior said coldly, without even moving. "To deal with someone like you… there's no need for weapons. My bare hands are enough!"
The Frog Monster's slashing motion was so fast that Yamiru, with his Fire-Eyes Vision, couldn't even discern its trajectory.
It was lightning-fast.
Although Yamiru had never witnessed Yajirobe's sword techniques, he doubted they could be faster than what he was now seeing. The Frog Monster's blade seemed to tear through space itself.
But to the Gold Warrior, what appeared to be extreme speed was as slow as the sluggishest worm crawling on Nidizolan. He didn't even bother dodging the sword. With a motion too quick for Yamiru to perceive, the Gold Warrior delivered a flying kick squarely to the Frog Monster's face.
"Big Bang attack!"
If Yamiru had heard the name of the technique the Gold Warrior called out as he attacked, he would undoubtedly have found it incredibly fitting.
A massive explosion.
The kick delivered by the Gold Warrior to the Frog Monster's face was nothing short of a real explosion! However, it wasn't the Gold Warrior's foot that detonated, but the head of the Frog Monster. It was as if an infinite amount of energy had been injected into it, causing it to violently burst in an instant.
The headless Frog Monster collapsed to the ground.
The Gold Warrior retracted his leg.
The two officers hiding behind a large tree on the high slope were completely dumbfounded.
Yamiru couldn't help but gulp, though it felt like swallowing air—his mouth was as dry as a desert.
"…"
Having finally dealt with the two murderers he had been pursuing, the Gold Warrior, whose name was Jiora, could clearly feel the gazes from his two "colleagues" on the slope behind him, as well as the stare of the Earth child who had likely witnessed his transformation. He thought to himself:"If I find these guys' spaceship and leave now, even if that Earth kid saw something, there's no way he'd understand enough to cause trouble when questioned by the clueless Chapat."
With that thought in mind, Jiora shot straight up into the air, ascending vertically at incredible speed.
The two police officers and Yamiru all watched him intently, their heads tilting upward as he rose.
"What kind of magic trick is this? He's just floating in the air now!" The chubby officer wiped his sweat. During the earlier fight, Jiora's brief moments of hovering could still be explained as exceptional martial arts or combat techniques. But now, hovering motionless dozens of meters above the ground? That was something else entirely.
"What a freak…" murmured the skinny officer.
"Is this guy an alien or Ultraman…" Yamiru muttered under his breath, lying on the ground with his neck craned. He felt utterly awkward in his current predicament.
Leaving seemed like a good idea, but curiosity about the mysterious figure's true identity kept him rooted in place. Staying, however, was risky. What if the guy got annoyed and decided to fire a beam or land a kick on him? Yamiru doubted he'd survive either.
He had only come to check out the commotion and somehow stumbled upon a hidden powerhouse living on Earth, someone who had never appeared in the Dragon Ball manga. It was completely unexpected.
Suddenly, a thought struck Yamiru: If that's the case… then maybe that mysterious old man I met also falls into this category? Another "hidden character" who never showed up in the manga?
"Hey! What are you doing here?"
The sudden growl startled Yamiru, who had been lying on the ground, deep in thought. Every hair on his body stood on end instinctively.
The chubby officer was equally startled when the kid lying on the ground suddenly snapped his head toward him with a sharp, panicked glare.
Those golden eyes gleamed fiercely, like the predatory gaze of a wild beast.
The chubby officer almost thought he hadn't just called out to a random boy who had wandered over but had instead awakened a dangerous golden-eyed leopard.
"What do you want?" Yamiru stood up, brushing off the grass clinging to his clothes. His tone was unfriendly—being startled like that by the officer had genuinely annoyed him.
The skinny officer frowned and asked, "Kid, where did you come from? Don't you know how dangerous it is here?"
"Exactly! This isn't a place for weaklings to wander near," Yamiru replied reflexively, glancing at the two officers next to him. "Of course, it's even less suitable for you two weaklings. Wait a second—where's that guy?"
It was only then that Yamiru realized the figure in the sky had disappeared.
"Could he have flown out of the atmosphere like Ultraman after defeating a monster?" Then he thought again, "No, that guy's more like a Kamen Rider."
Yamiru sighed inwardly. So much for training my focus.
The sudden appearance of this Kamen Rider-like figure had once again sent his thoughts spiraling.
"That strange guy… flew off in that direction," said the chubby officer, pointing. Then, turning to Yamiru, he scolded, "Where's your home? Where are your parents? Running around aimlessly like this… Let me drive you back."
"No need. My… uncle is waiting for me by the roadside," Yamiru replied reluctantly, playing along and pretending that the middle-aged man he referred to was his "uncle." This shrunken body of his had been both a blessing and a curse. Back in Nandu, there were several instances where he had almost been forcibly taken to a welfare center by the local police.
At that moment, another officer returned.
"Chapat! Where the hell did you run off to?" the skinny officer berated him.
The chubby officer, shaking his head in disappointment, added, "As a police officer, you ran away out of fear. Shame on you!"
Hearing this, Yamiru couldn't help but think, "You two were trembling behind a tree, clinging to each other for dear life. That wasn't exactly heroic, either."
The young officer who had returned simply smiled awkwardly. But he soon noticed the golden-eyed boy staring at him intently… And Jiora, in turn, realized that the boy's gaze wasn't actually fixed on his face but rather on a spot higher up—beyond the top of his head.
It was as if Yamiru was still looking at Jiora's true form.
