Chapter 97: Revenge for You!
Upon hearing Fu Yan's request, Liu Ergou shook his head.
"Uncle Fu, what can I say? It's not that I can't do it, but your body wouldn't be able to take it!"
"You're too fragile. If you were as strong as me, then I might…"
Liu Ergou was midsentence when Fu Yan interrupted him.
"Hahaha, ah, alright, let's not talk about this anymore!" he said. "Er Gou, I'm truly grateful to you for treating me!"
With that, Fu Yan took out his phone to check the time. He saw it was getting late, the perfect time for dinner. Although it was still a bit early, it didn't disrupt their plans.
Fu Yan warmly wrapped his arm around Liu Ergou and led him downstairs. As they walked, he said, "Er Gou, it's getting late. Let's have dinner. It's a good opportunity to introduce you to my wife!"
"You haven't really gotten to know my family yet, so this will be a great chance to get acquainted!"
Liu Ergou, of course, did not refuse and simply nodded in agreement.
Seeing Liu Ergou agree, Fu Yan didn't delay. He immediately took out his phone to start arranging the evening's meal.
「Another two hours passed.」
By then, the sky outside had darkened. The room, however, was brightly lit. Fu Yan, his wife, and his daughter, Fu Ya, were seated at the dining table. Liu Ergou was also seated with them.
Fu Yan raised a glass of liquor and said to Liu Ergou with great enthusiasm, "Er Gou, I'm deeply indebted to you this time for saving your uncle's life!"
"Without you, I'd be lying in bed right now, just waiting for death!"
"It's no exaggeration to say that you're my savior, Er Gou!"
After speaking, Fu Yan didn't give Liu Ergou a chance to reply and downed the liquor in his glass. This left Liu Ergou a bit embarrassed. Although what Fu Yan said was true, his words were a bit too much. The description felt inappropriate.
But since the drink was already down, Liu Ergou couldn't say anything more. He could only raise his glass and down it as well.
After they finished that glass, Fu Yan raised another.
"The first glass was a toast to you, Er Gou, for saving my life. This second glass is also for you—for saving my daughter!"
"That time when little Ya nearly collapsed and died on the street, if you hadn't been there, I would have lost my only daughter!"
As he said this, tears welled up in Fu Yan's eyes. It was clear just how much he cherished Fu Ya.
This time, Fu Yan again didn't give Liu Ergou a chance to speak. He raised his glass and once more drained it in one go. All Liu Ergou could do was follow suit.
After two glasses of strong liquor, Fu Yan finally regained some semblance of normalcy.
"Er Gou, come, let me introduce you to my family!"
Pointing to Fu Ya, he said, "I don't need to say much about this one. This is my daughter, whom you've already met!"
Then, Fu Yan pointed toward a woman who had changed into a cheongsam.
"You haven't met her yet. Let me introduce you. This is my wife, Zhang Yuehong. She's thirty-three years old."
Hearing this, Liu Ergou looked up at Zhang Yuehong. Though he had glanced at her before, seeing her again left him somewhat dazzled. The mature aura about Zhang Yuehong was unlike anything he had encountered before. When Zhang Yuehong saw Liu Ergou looking at her, she simply nodded and smiled without saying anything more.
Within minutes, the dinner table grew lively. Er Gou and Fu Yan began to trade toasts. Before long, their terms of address changed drastically, settling on "Little Brother" and "Big Brother."
This left Fu Ya, sitting beside them, utterly helpless and exasperated, able only to watch the two of them. She sighed incessantly. How could her own father act like this?
Finally, Fu Ya couldn't bear to watch any longer. She left the dining table and returned to her room. A few minutes after Fu Ya departed, Zhang Yuehong also excused herself.
Now, only Er Gou and Fu Yan remained at the table. The two were deep in their cups, speaking freely about anything and everything.
Er Gou picked up the liquor cup in front of him and downed it in one gulp. Then, he started to air his grievances.
"Sigh, Big Brother, don't laugh… Look at me. I might seem capable, but I'm a nobody back in the village!"
"I heard from our village chief that we got instructions from above to build a health clinic. There's supposed to be government funding and land allocated, but our chief only gave me 7,000 yuan!"
Upon hearing this, Fu Yan slammed the table and shot to his feet.
"Little Brother, what did you just say? I don't think I heard you right!"
"Are you saying he gave you 7,000 yuan to build a health clinic?"
Er Gou nodded.
"Yeah, Big Brother, just 7,000 yuan. What's that supposed to buy!"
After hearing Er Gou out, Fu Yan was momentarily stunned, then asked, "Little Brother, tell me, which village are you from?"
"This is rich. I've never seen such an idiot. What can you possibly do with 7,000 yuan?"
"A nurse at the town hospital makes more than 3,000 a month!"
With that, Fu Yan picked up another cup of liquor and drained it.
Er Gou watched Fu Yan drink and said, "It's Fengzhu Village. For miles around, who else could be as greedy as our chief, Liu Jingming?"
"Giving me 7,000 yuan... Big Brother, isn't that a ridiculously small amount?"
Fu Yan nodded in strong agreement and, patting his chest, began to make a promise.
"Don't worry, Little Brother!"
"A scumbag of a village chief like that? I definitely won't let him get away with it!"
"Rest assured, by the time your medical practice license arrives, his time as village chief will be over!"
"Don't worry, Little Brother! I'll definitely help you get your revenge!"
Er Gou was overjoyed. He raised his cup high and shouted, "Thanks, Big Brother!"
With that, he drained his cup in one go.
Then, they resumed their wide-ranging conversation, occasionally downing another cup of liquor. The two of them drank deep into the night before finally wrapping up.
In the end, Fu Yan drank himself into oblivion, slumping over the table, unable to move.
When Liu Ergou saw Fu Yan passed out on the table like a limp rag, his previously drunken eyes instantly cleared. It was as if he hadn't touched a single drop of alcohol.
