Chapter 122 How Are You Here?
Liu Ergou went downstairs and sat on the sofa.
About half an hour later, Fu Yan walked into the villa, carrying a briefcase. As soon as he entered, he saw Liu Ergou sitting there.
"Er Gou, the issue with your medical license will be settled soon, in just a couple of days, so don't worry!" Fu Yan said.
Liu Ergou quickly replied, "I'm not worried, Uncle Fu. I'm already thrilled that you could help me get it. How could I possibly be anxious!"
Fu Yan let out a hearty laugh. "Hahaha, Er Gou, you're being too formal! Alright, let's eat!"
With that, Fu Yan changed his clothes and headed to the dining room, with Liu Ergou following closely behind.
Fu Ya and Zhang Yuehong only arrived after the two men were seated, fashionably late. Both of them were limping, which struck Fu Yan as odd.
"What happened to you two?" he asked. "Why are you both limping?"
The sudden question made them panic internally, but they quickly came up with an answer. Fu Ya and Zhang Yuehong exchanged a glance, snorted in unison, and then turned their heads away, ignoring each other completely.
Seeing this, Fu Yan immediately understood the situation and began to reason with them.
"Oh, Ya Ya, why must you always antagonize your stepmother? Look, now you're hurt. You can't keep on like this!"
"And Yuehong, you're the elder. There's no need to bicker with a junior. You two need to get along. If this continues, I won't be able to rest easy!"
Hearing Fu Yan's words, Liu Ergou lowered his head guiltily and ate his food in silence.
It's all my fault they're limping...
After painstakingly trying to persuade them, Fu Yan suddenly changed the subject.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot something important! I have the day off tomorrow for a checkup. Er Gou, you should come with me!"
Liu Ergou, who was in the middle of his meal, simply nodded without saying anything else.
How could I not understand his intention? It was simple: he wanted to see how much his condition had improved and whether my treatment was actually working.
As Liu Ergou pondered this, Fu Yan continued, "Checkups are such a waste of time. If it wasn't for the mandatory annual exam, I wouldn't bother with them at all! Sigh!" As he said this, he let out a long, exasperated sigh.
Liu Ergou remained silent and continued to eat quietly. Soon, the meal was over, and everyone returned to their rooms to rest.
No one came looking for Liu Ergou that night, so he slept very peacefully.
「The next morning.」
Upon waking, he practiced the Body Refining Technique for a while. After Liu Ergou had finished his morning routine, Fu Yan got up and started to get ready.
Once they were both prepared, Fu Yan and Liu Ergou set out. They soon arrived at the best hospital in town, where the checkup was scheduled.
The two walked into the hospital together to begin the process. While Fu Yan had his checkup, Liu Ergou sat on a chair in the corridor, bored, gazing listlessly at the ceiling. He appeared to be zoning out, but he was actually recalling the contents of the two medical books his great-grandfather had given him. Although he had a grasp of the two books, he was still a long way from complete mastery.
Just as Liu Ergou was lost in thought, a woman's voice interrupted him.
"Hey? Are you that traditional Chinese medicine doctor? Why are you here? Don't tell me you're applying for a job?"
Liu Ergou followed the voice and saw a nurse in a white coat and mask standing before him, looking at him curiously. He felt that she looked somewhat familiar, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember who she was.
Seeing his puzzled expression, the nurse clearly understood his confusion.
"It's me!" she said, reminding him. "That day we ran into the girl who had a cerebral thrombosis. Have you forgotten me?"
As she spoke, the nurse pulled down her mask, revealing a youthful, pretty face. The moment he saw her clearly, it all came back to him.
"Oh! It's you!" Liu Ergou exclaimed. "What was your name again?"
The young nurse was speechless. He doesn't even remember my name, so why act so surprised?
Looking at Liu Ergou, she replied helplessly, "It's me. My name is Qian Xiaoling!"
Liu Ergou nodded. "Oh! Qian Xiaoling!"
With that, he lost interest in continuing the conversation and prepared to return to his thoughts about the medical texts. However, just as he was about to, something occurred to him. He looked at Qian Xiaoling curiously.
"Hey? If I remember correctly, you told me you were a nurse in the city. This is just a town hospital, so what are you doing here?"
At his words, the previously cheerful Qian Xiaoling's face immediately darkened.
"Hmph! You just had to touch a sore spot!" She stamped her foot and then stormed off angrily.
Watching her, Liu Ergou scratched his head, completely baffled.
What the heck? I didn't say anything wrong, so why did she suddenly get so angry? This is just bizarre.
As Qian Xiaoling's figure disappeared from view, a saying came to his mind.
A woman's heart is as deep as the ocean.
He shrugged, said nothing more, and prepared once again to focus on the medical arts. But before he could, Qian Xiaoling, who had just left, suddenly returned. She saw Liu Ergou sitting motionless on the chair, which only fueled her anger. She couldn't stop herself from walking up and giving him a light kick.
"What is wrong with you? You saw me leaving, why didn't you try to stop me? You were just going to let me walk away like that?"
Looking at the returned Qian Xiaoling, Liu Ergou fell into deep thought.
What on earth does this woman mean? What is she even talking about?
For a moment, Liu Ergou didn't know what to say and could only stare dumbfoundedly at her. Seeing that he was silent, Qian Xiaoling didn't speak either, but instead sat down beside him in a huff.
