Chapter 123 Watching the Bustle
As soon as Qian Xiaoling sat down, she began to tell Liu Ergou why she had come to work at this hospital.
The reason wasn't complicated. Back at the city hospital, someone had tried to pressure her for favors, citing the "unspoken rules." She didn't just refuse; she beat the person up. Normally, Qian Xiaoling would have been fired for such behavior. However, the incident caused such a stir that hastily dismissing her could have done irreparable damage to the hospital's reputation.
After some discussion among the hospital leadership, they unanimously decided to "banish" her. This small town was ultimately chosen as her place of exile.
After finishing her story, Qian Xiaoling couldn't help but let out a long sigh. "Ah, banishment it is!" she said. "Honestly, I think working in this town is great—so much better than in a big hospital! Back there, the work was not only exhausting, but I also had to deal with constant office politics. I was dead tired every single day! But it's different here. I've been working for over half a month, and I've had no issues. I don't even have to work overtime, just my normal shifts!"
As she spoke, she added in a small murmur, "Aside from the lower salary, everything else is pretty good!"
With that, Qian Xiaoling stood up. "I won't keep you. I have to go, work is waiting!" she said, then skipped away cheerfully.
Watching her retreating figure, Liu Ergou shook his head. She really is full of energy.
However, just as Liu Ergou was about to get back to his studies, Fu Yan returned from his medical check-up. The moment he was back, Fu Yan grabbed Liu Ergou's hands in excitement before he could even speak.
"Oh, Er Gou!" he exclaimed. "Your medical skills are incredible, far beyond anything I could have imagined. You could probably snatch someone right from the clutches of the King of Hell!"
This sudden praise left Liu Ergou momentarily stunned. What on earth just happened?
Seeing Liu Ergou's dumbfounded expression, Fu Yan pressed on, "Do you know what happened, Er Gou? I just had my check-up, and I asked the doctor about the results. He told me that aside from being a little weak, there's absolutely nothing wrong with me! My pancreatic cancer… it's completely gone!"
By this point, Fu Yan was beaming from ear to ear. Of course, anyone in his position would be overjoyed by such news; there was no reason not to be.
Looking at the jubilant Fu Yan, Liu Ergou was about to say something but was once again cut off.
"Oh, Er Gou, you saved my life!" Fu Yan said. "I don't even know how to repay you. A medical license is nothing; getting one for you is no trouble at all. So how on earth can I possibly thank you enough?"
Looking at the happy man before him, Liu Ergou said nothing, nor did he suggest any form of reward. He felt that Fu Yan's daughter and wife had already expressed their gratitude, and he couldn't possibly ask for more.
After a moment's thought, Liu Ergou said, "Uncle Fu, please don't worry about repaying me. Your health is all that matters. It's more important than anything."
Hearing this, Fu Yan was deeply moved, and he found himself liking Liu Ergou more and more. Young men as humble and well-spoken as him are becoming so rare.
At that moment, Fu Yan was seized by the impulse to marry his daughter to him. However, the thought of Fu Ya's personality immediately made him dismiss the idea. Marrying Fu Ya to Liu Ergou... why did it feel like he'd be doing Liu Ergou a great disservice?
Thinking this, Fu Yan shook his head with a small laugh. He clapped Liu Ergou on the shoulder and said solemnly, "Don't worry, Er Gou. You saved my life. I will never forget such a tremendous debt of gratitude! I, Fu Yan, give you my word. If you ever need anything, I will be there to help you immediately, without a moment's delay!"
After hearing such a serious promise, Liu Ergou could only reply, "Uncle Fu, that's too much. You're making me feel embarrassed!"
Fu Yan simply patted his shoulder again. "There's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's settled!"
He then glanced at the medical report in his hand and started walking in another direction. "Er Gou, I can't talk now," he called out as he left. "I have more check-ups to get through. Wait for me to finish, and we'll go for a meal. I'll book a table for you at the best restaurant in town!"
Without giving Liu Ergou a chance to refuse, Fu Yan hurried away, clutching his report.
Liu Ergou stood there, stunned for a moment, before shaking his head. He then took out the new phone Fu Ya had bought for him and started fiddling with it. A smile appeared on his face as he explored the device. He had to admit, this new model had far more features than the old bachelor's phone and was a lot more entertaining to use.
As he got engrossed in his new toy, a series of angry shouts suddenly echoed through the hospital.
"Doctors these days just take your money and do nothing!"
"I'm just here for an examination! Why is it so difficult? One demand after another, it's so infuriating!"
"If you ask me, you doctors are all just a bunch of crooks! Why else would you prescribe so much medicine?"
"You just wait! This isn't over!"
Startled from his phone, Liu Ergou looked up in the direction of the shouting and raised an eyebrow.
My luck isn't half bad. The moment I step outside, I run into a medical dispute. To be honest, I've never seen anything like this in my entire life. As the only doctor in all the surrounding villages, none of the locals would ever dare to offend me. The thought sparked a sudden impulse to go watch the show.
Liu Ergou put his phone away and walked toward the source of the commotion. It only took him two or three minutes to arrive at a hospital room where two burly bodyguards in black suits stood at the door.
He raised an eyebrow at the sight. This must be a wealthy patient's room; otherwise, why would there be bodyguards in black suits? And that shouting must have come from in here. He stopped in his tracks and craned his neck, trying to see into the room and figure out what was happening.
