Chapter 65: : Xuan Becomes an Undead [2]
"The three counselors who volunteered have been killed."
The councils of the Wuxia Empire gathered once again around the table. Emperor Woo's physician was taught how to mix the dual medicine needed for the emperor.
Which was why he could sit among the round table, now reduced to five counselors. He sighed.
If he risked going after the Undead Elf King, he would have less than two hours to finish the fight before his legs gave out.
The Undead Elf King wasn't one to fight with honor; if something like that happened, he would strike Woo dead without a spark of shame.
"And the demons are beginning to breach the outskirts of the capital; soon they will arrive here."
Another unpleasant piece of news that made him uneasy. Woo massaged his forehead; he could guess the Undead Elf King was back, and mainly because of him.
Of course there would be a master behind it all, because a dead man cannot revive himself this strongly, and even if he could, it would have happened the moment Woo killed him.
So he knew the Elf King had been sent by someone stronger, who had used this opportunity to get back at Woo.
"Prepare my spirit beast," Woo said.
"What? No, Emperor — you're in no condition to fight."
"Yes, Emperor, you can easily be killed in this state."
Woo stood up from his seat; he chuckled while looking at them all. "If that is what you think, then one of you should dare challenge me," he said.
The five counselors looked at one another's pale faces, murmuring, their heads nodding repeatedly like red-headed lizards.
But none of them had the courage to accept the challenge. "Good. Now prepare my beast; I will not sit waiting for the fight."
"But, Emperor, we've sent orders to the southern empires; we could wait for their cavalry to arrive."
"I am the cavalry," Woo added.

Meanwhile...
"That's... that's him! That's the guy I've been tracking down," the tracker said, uneasy.
Xuan, who had now become undead, looked at his friends, and his venomous dagger appeared. He sat there looking at them for a while and broke the silence.
"Where do your allegiances lie?" he said, his voice cold and dead.
"Xuan? It's us," Han Bai stepped forward, taking a step that nearly killed him.
Xuan needed an answer, and that wasn't it; so the moment Han Bai stepped forward, Xuan threw his dagger at the boy. However, Fang Yuan quickly deflected it with his black spear.
But it left a graze on Han Bai's cheek before the dagger found its way back to Xuan's palm.
"I feel... I feel," Han Bai muttered. "I feel like I'm at the Early Martial Realm stage."
The graze on his cheek started spreading across his face, making him weaker by the second. Xi Ning ran to Han Bai, placed her ice palm on the spot, and froze the venom.
"Hahaha, isn't he special?" the voice of the Undead Elf King was heard. He stood to the left, atop the mountain, the moon behind him, creating the image of an overpowered villain.
When he appeared, Han Bai's spirit beast started whispering gibberish words only its master could understand.
"What is it saying?" the tracker asked; he was the one supporting Han Bai from falling, so he could clearly hear the buzzing sound of the beast.
"The gauntlet on his wrist — it's a treasure," Han Bai said.
"Great — your little spirit beast wants to hunt treasures," said the tracker; he was very nervous and had to hide behind the group.
"No — it's—" Han Bai's breath started shaking. "It's responsible for the undead con—" Han Bai fainted.
Although the cut was frozen, it only stopped it from spreading. Once cut by the dagger, it reduces the victim's strength—or, in this case, cultivation stage—to the lowest.
Han Bai's strength wasn't far from the lowest, so the venom did the job quicker than it did with the elder who died in the forest. And once the venom spreads to his heart or brain...
Han Bai would die.
"Xuan—" Zhao Lan was about to call Xuan back to his senses, but the way he looked at her, the words were stuck.
Xue Ming could also feel it: Xuan was heartless; he didn't care about Zhao Lan. When she moved, his fingers crawled around the venomous dagger.
So she had to stop.
"It's no use; the boy is mine now, and soon you all will be," the Elf King said. As he raised his hands, Xuan stood up. "Kill them all."
"I think the guy that just fainted said something about that guy's gauntlet," the tracker pointed out.
"Go. Leave Xuan to me," Fang Yuan said, matching the emotionless look on Xuan's ice-colored face.
"Okay, so we have a plan," the tracker said, rushing his words; his eyes shifted between the girls and Xuan, who was gradually approaching them.
"The three girls will try to get the gauntlet; Fang Yuan will take Xuan; and I'll carry this guy somewhere safe."
There was no room for argument. Xue Ming and Zhao Lan stood looking at Xuan with worried faces until Xi Ning alarmed them about the Undead King escaping.
"Don't hurt him," said Xue Ming.
So they ran after him, and the tracker picked up the unconscious Han Bai, trying not to panic as he searched for somewhere safe to hide.
Fang Yuan faced Xuan. "All right, I'm only giving you one chance: tell me Xuan is still in there and I won't cut you to pieces."
Xuan proved him wrong by dashing toward Fang Yuan, leaping up and striking down at him. The aftermath was stairwells ruined to pieces, floating in midair.
Fang Yuan had dodged by jumping high enough and projected his spear in response to Xuan's attack.
The spear, for a moment in the air, transformed into a spiraling black snake, and just after it grazed Xuan's cheek, it turned back into a black spear, stabbing the ground.
"Last warning," he said, landing perfectly behind Xuan.
Xuan stood up, touching the blood on his cheek. He chuckled and turned around. "You fool," he said softly. As the wound covered itself, Fang Yuan's heart skipped a beat.
"What? It healed?" Normally, mythical weapons like his dealt unrecoverable damage—damage that would take decades to heal.
Of course it would have been the case for Xuan, but all he did was simple: rewind his body five seconds before he was hurt.
"You won't get a chance like that twice," Xuan added.
And with that, Fang Yuan had no idea what he was thinking; he failed to realize Xuan had closed the gap between them until it was too late...
"Kweuk," Fang Yuan coughed out blood. The instant Xuan left a devastating punch on his abdomen, the sounds of bones accompanied his body bursting through the doors of the palace.
"Kweuk," he coughed out blood again. Xuan was now entering the palace through the hole Fang Yuan's body had created on the door.
The answer was clear now: Xuan wasn't himself anymore, especially when he said something that angered Fang Yuan.
"Imagine I was able to fool you. The poisoned tea was all my idea—a bait you easily believed."
The words sent chills across the membrane. It was as if Fang Yuan was cracking. "What did you just say?" he growled. "I am going to kill you."
Boom.
