Demon Lord's Reincarnation

Chapter 733: Ceasefire

"That was when I made the promise to kill the ORIGIN. I knew back then that with the current rate of how much my strength was increasing it would be impossible to reach the ORIGIN's level. Well no matter what you do, normally it would have been impossible to reach the ORIGIN no matter what I did. To even catch a glimpse of the ORIGIN's true body was already a miracle.

Despite those odds, I continued to strengthen myself, with the one goal of killing the ORIGIN."

The original incarnation closed his eyes as the experiences he had gone through filled his mind. It had been eons upon eons, one era to the next, he could never have imagined that he had existed for so long. Yet even now he was unable to fulfill his promise.

'No matter... The time for the end is nearing.'

"Even I who came the closest to the ORIGIN had a limited lifespan, I knew that I wouldn't be able to win against the ORIGIN in my lifetime which was why I created the system of reincarnation."

"Since you were able to create the system of reincarnation then does that mean you won against the Gods?" One of the reincarnations asked.

"The war between us and the Gods ended in a ceasefire. No matter how powerful I was, in the end, I could not win against my own mortal weakness. Despite my body being able to survive for thousands of years, I still had a limited lifespan since I did not fully change my body to become something similar to those gods. Do you know why I was called the Strongest Mortal Soul until the very end?

It is because I refuse to become like those b*stards who call themselves gods, even as my body was weakening due to my own human limits I did not cling to life, despite me being able to transcend my human limitations."

The original incarnation remembered the final years of his life. Even then he could feel his body which was always growing stronger, was growing weaker instead. He knew that his end was nearing and that he could possibly extend his life if he abandoned being human entirely.

Still, no matter what would happen, he did not want to become something else, all he wanted to be until the day he died was to be a free human. He was already treated as a monster by the dragons, gods, and even humans, as he was different from all the other humans. Still, even though it was just a little thing he wanted to die the same way as any other human.

At that time, all the people he knew were no longer alive, the five generals, and the leader Frieda. No one was there by his side anymore, but he continued to do battle.

...

"I and the the gods agreed to the ceasefire, and they swore to the ORIGIN himself that they would no longer hunt humans for as long as the ORIGIN does not intervene. They agreed to those terms even though they did not want to because when I felt myself nearing death I went on a rampage and massacred almost half of the Ancient Ones.

I agreed to their terms as well since I was dying and I was the only human left at that time that could fight the Ancient Ones."

"So after the ceasefire what happened next, did you really die of old age?"

"That's a rather funny question. Even the most peaceful and calmest of my reincarnations was not able to die of old age. Do you think I who is the core of all of your personalities will go gently? Of course, not!"

"Then how did you die?"

"The same as everyone in this spirit realm, I died from a glorious battle!"

"But who were you fighting with? Since you just had a ceasefire with the gods, did you die at the hands of a human or a dragon?"

"No, not any of them, I fought the strongest being I have ever known. I fought with the creator of all existence, I fought with the ORIGIN. That was of course, after I was done creating the reincarnation system, as well as the tree of life which grants mana upon any world.

There were also the world deities which were humans with the power of gods, who were supposed to help humanity grow stronger for the upcoming end of everything, but those guys forgot about their original purpose."

"Wait a minute, the world deities were your creations, they aren't gods?" Ren asked since he knew a few world deities, he always thought that world deities were humans who became gods through effort.

"Yeah, I made them by sharing a tiny bit of the authority I took from the Ancient Ones. That is why there is always a world deity of death and a world deity of light in every world. Well, those fools aren't important, even if they did remember their original mission of guiding humanity to grow stronger, that would have ended in failure anyway.

It's a good thing that they forgot about it and are now simply cosplaying as gods."

"Why do you say that?"

"Humans grow stronger through adversity, and if those fools had guided them like I intended most of today's humans would have relied too much on them, like how the humans of the past relied too much upon me. It took me quite a long time to understand that simple fact... Enough about that, so do any of you want to watch my final battle?"

"Of course, I would want to."

"A battle against the true creator of everything who would miss on something like that."

The many reincarnations were becoming extremely excited by the fact that they could get to see such an epic battle.

"Unfortunately, this time not all of you will be able to watch this battle. I know that you think you would cease to exist happily if you get to glimpse at a battle of this magnitude, but if it were only that simple."
