Chapter 102: The First Mission
After Jinn finished eight successful rotations, Jinn realized some things.
First, he needed two rotations to finish one cycle. The reason he arrived at such a conclusion was… After his second successful rotation, he noticed that at the end the energy did move on its own.
But one time was not enough to seal his conclusion. So he kept going, and as expected, nothing happened on the third try, but on the fourth, the energy moved on its own at the end.
Jinn had no idea why it was the case, but if he had to guess, it would be related to his twin core situation, which has given him anomalous pathways.
The second thing he noticed was that not only did his Root Chakra recover quickly, but it also supported the growth of his energy.
With time his control was growing better, and he could complete each cycle faster than the one before.
And lastly, Jinn also realized… he was dead tired.
Completing eight rotations was his limit for a day. He was starving and out of energy, as the book had stated.
His body had been drained of its normal reserves, and if he continued from here on, it would only harm his body.
Others on the same level as him might faint after two or three tries on their first time, but Jinn persisted through eight rotations, which only meant four cycles for him.
Which means he was already ahead of others in certain aspects of growing stronger.
But Jinn also knew that talent like his could be compensated with resources.
So, it would be better for him not to get complicit, or he might not be able to get to the top.
Only there would he have the right to choose the future he wanted for himself.
From what he was told by the imp who had done 'thorough research.' His body needed two cycles because of special pathways.
To complete a cycle, he has to go through each road, but because of the diverging roads, he could only choose one path.
If he found a way to cross them both at the same time, Jinn would only need one rotation per cycle.
'But my current control is nowhere near enough for that.' Lamenting his lack of control, Jinn slowly pushed himself off the ground.
"I should have dinner." Jinn glanced at the clock casually before looking away. But the next second he froze and snapped his head back.
"Dinner?"
Immersed in the trance of attaining power for hours, Jinn forgot something.
Even though the teacher of the battle class had taken his leave. There were still other classes he had to take after him.
Besides the courses he chose, there were some subjects like math, science, and the basic language class that were mandatory for everyone to take.
But since he was too lost in practicing, Jinn completely forgot about them.
"Imagine skipping school on the first day…" with a tired sigh of resignation, Jinn walked out of the room.
'I cannot fight the apocalypse on an empty plate.'
Just thinking of the punishment he might receive, Jinn felt a headache coming.
He walked to the cafeteria, where he could see empty chairs from a distance.
Since it was six in the evening, the shop might just have been opened.
After taking a plate full of food, Jinn sat down and started eating. It had not been long before someone suddenly approached him.
"Skipping on your first day is not what I would have thought." Jinn looked up, hearing the familiar voice, only to pause.
"Who?"
"…Evelyn." The young woman replied calmly after a second of silence.
Jinn was not making fun of her by asking such a question because the young woman did not look like herself at all.
Although dressed the same, her eyes looked haggard, like that of a corpse, and her cheeks had sunken inwardly.
She looked like someone had sniffed the life out of her.
Just like Jinn, she too had a mountain of food in her tray.
"Ah, did they say anything about me missing the class? I lost track of time."
"Practicing the method?" upon seeing his nod, she looked at Jinn and added, "I was the same. We both lost ten points for the day."
Chewing the food in his mouth, he nodded and said, "I thought they might do something worse, but maybe they made an exception for us. You know, the perks."
"Or maybe since it is our first day."
Jinn stayed silent, matching Evelyn's intensity, and said, "maybe it's both."
They devoured their food within minutes and returned to their rooms.
Jinn continued with his classes the next day, and after they ended, he would rush to his room and practice with any little time he had before the day ended.
For the next three days, he repeated the same thing over and over again.
And his efforts paid off.
Jinn's control grew upon the energy, and his reserves had also expanded with time.
Although the difference was too little to notice, Jinn could feel it with his heart.
With his reserves expanded, the energy was being pushed inside the small chamber.
With his current speed, Jinn understood it would only take him a few months to advance.
A total of five days had passed since he started practicing this method, and the first Friday finally arrived.
Which meant…
The day of Missions.
Starting today, for the next two days, he would gather points and aim for more resources.
Following the direction given to him by the receptionist, Jinn arrived at the mission hall.
The hall was grand and imposing. Curved ceilings and a wide hallway surrounded by several booths and antique beauty.
Beside every counter, there was a mission board where several quests of different levels were assigned.
"Should I take the demonic-level mission?" Chuckling at his own joke, Jinn arrived at one of the emptier counters and stood in line, waiting for his turn. While waiting, he could see all the information of the missions available.
Amidst the other missions, one familiar name stood out.
"Exorcism of the Herbert Mansion!"
