Chapter 169: Envy vs Greed, Second Round!
Ice spread beneath Lila's feet, each edge reflecting a pure glow.
As Rosana's grin broke away, she rushed forward with her axe held high over her head-
And threw it towards Lila.
As the edge neared Lila, it collided with a solid blue barrier. <Snow Globe>, pre-casted by Lila, as Rosana assumed.
She then conjured a sword with her knees folded.
"I sang a lonely lullaby upon my soul."
As Rosana timed and lept, the iceland stretched and rushed by Lila's <Long Chant>.
Axe sank further into the spherical barrier, then-
BOOM!
An explosion occurred, flinging the axe away and causing a frosty smoke.
Rosana closed the distance, her vision obscuring mid-air as she held her sword over her shoulder with a palm at the hilt-
And thrust her sword at where she presumed Lila's neck.
Yet it then collided with... something.
Rosana raised her brows; barrier? Ice? Stave? No, the tip of her sword felt too vivid, as if something yet nothing blocked its advance.
As the smoke cleared, her sword paused mid-air, with Lila coldly glaring at her.
Her lips moved slowly, now fully assured of victory.
"And so, may our fun last eternal. Our Song unforgotten for a millennium."
An aim from her stave. And Rosana's feet stuttered to back off.
But she frowned, belatedly realising her feet were completely frozen.
The ice stretched to cover her knee, as Rosana's arms crossed to block the head for the impending blow.
"I leave here my prayers."
The ice soon crept further up to consume even Rosana's waist, as her jaw hung open.
This spell, it-
"<Eternal Freeze>."
Then, soon after, ice swallowed Rosana's figure whole in an outcry, rushing upstream at her chest.
But in this instant, Rosana gritted her teeth, conjured a dagger, and stabbed into the ice-
Only for the ice to freeze over the metal, before greedily gulping down her fingers, hand, and arms.
Soon, she was left half-frozen; her posture suspended with only her shoulders and head remaining.
Lila merely narrowed her emerald eyes. "That's it?"
A grunt soon escaped Rosana's bated breaths, her red eyes shaky and unstable as they glared into Lila's indifferent stare.
"Hehe...."
Rosana soon hung her head. "Yeah."
In contrast to her response, however, spots of orange soon spread over the blue ice, as smokes oozed out in a seething cry.
A breath hitched in Lila, her feet then backed away at the first sign of her ice melting-
And with sheer strength, Rosana freed herself from the half-melted ice, as she conjured a javelin and swung.
The light weaponry only swept through the air, as Lila hastily backed away with a frown.
Rosana's dress was half-torn, its fabric tinted a burnt black as her skin still oozed smoke from the tears.
She then swept back her golden hair, her craziness fully exploding in the form of a wild glare.
"Heh...ha ha..."
Her lips broke out into a grin. "Very good! Did you learn a new trick on our trip to Embervale?"
Dots started connecting in Rosana's head; her sharp mind concluded only one theory she had in mind.
"Ha?"
Despite her answer, Lila's face remained blank.
She only realised <Frozen Series> as she unlocked her <Witch Form>; the ability to freeze literally anything and everything she wished.
So when the sword thrusted at her neck, she had to freeze time itself for the strike to be suspended.
Her <Human Form> had limitations, but the test was successful so far.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"...well."
Rosana chuckled, her amusement overflowing. "Thanks to you, too, I've had to conjure something on the fly."
Mel watched the whole fight unfold; her eyes widening in absolute amazement.
<Creation Series> could only conjure something users were absolutely familiar with.
Mel had Maria and even her Witch Form for limitless trial and error, but Rosana taught it through sweat and blood.
And to know the heat to the extent of melting Lila's ice, Rosana must have gone through unimaginable fire herself and survived!
"Come on."
Rosana conjured another javelin in her left hand; her posture dignified as she hung one at her shoulder, the other pointing at Lila.
"Is that all?"
Lila's indifference faltered as she clicked her tongue at Rosana's smug tone.
"Not exactly."
She observed that faint smoke still trailed upward with Rosana's skin, indicating the same trick won't work.
A blast like last time?
Lila then shook her head, and calmness returned as she straightened herself.
A matter of pride, and their differing possessiveness for Mel.
She aimed her stave forward. "I'll finish the rest in one strike."
Lila was inconfident; her <Frozen Series>, in fact, could only freeze a specific part of the area she desired.
She retook a deep breath, then flatly gazed at Rosana.
"Go ahead."
Orbs of frost accumulated in her stave; her one and final strike.
"Try me."
Rosana tilted her head; her red eyes narrowing in intrigue.
No hint of trembling remained in Lila's tone, yet she could tell Lila was afraid.
That was her instinct as the Heiress who inherited the most incredible honour of all.
Her Dragon Blood called to her; to receive this blow head-on!
She bent her waist, ready for a final dash across to Lila.
The tension between them was palpable; as Mel's eyes darted between them at a standoff again.
Her heart pounded against her chest; her finger flicking as she prepared for her <Echo Series>, hopefully preventing both from fatally harming each other.
Then, Rosana lunged forward.
She first threw the spear; the <Snow Globe> burst open again in a smoke.
Yet the smoke scattered away, revealing a giant orb of ice aimed straight at Rosana.
No time for a long chant.
"<Snow Orb>."
And the sphere twirled and surged toward Rosana.
The snow breeze cracked the ice beneath, as Rosana frowned for one millisecond.
She hesitated.
In her speed, she could dodge the orb.
In her <Creation Series>, she could create armour and tank the orb.
Yet as if possessed, she held up her javelin and blocked the orb; the force kicked her feet backward.
The twirling sphere grinded against the wood as Rosana dragged forward with her loosening balance.
The grin on her face? An unmistakable sense of exhilaration.
Yet Mel frowned at such a sight.
She observed how Rosana held her brows together; how a flicker of nostalgia crossed as her lips resisted being a frown.
Her Partner, similarly, was watching the fight unfold.
She stated in one panel.
[ Pitiful. ]
And then, the javelin soon broke apart into two.
Only for the orb to clash against Rosana's chest.
