Chapter 168: Differences over Love, Hehe
After dressing themselves, along with some preparations, Mel and Lila soon descended the stairs to the training hall.
As usual, only Rosana occupied the sparse training hall; her golden hair glittering in the white dawn light as she performed a blade dance.
Mel heard Lila humming before she went ahead of her.
"Ah."
An upward swing, Rosana laid down the sword before sweeping back her sweaty hair, her dress drenched in sweat, which indicated she had been practicing for a while.
She raised a brow at Lila. "You're also here?"
"Yep!"
Lila crossed her arms at her waist as she held her head high. "Let's not waste any time: I'm here to discipline you!"
"Disi...pline...?"
Rosana tilted her head, then glanced at Mel with a questioning look.
Mel shrugged with a slight smirk. Don't involve her! It's time for her Lila to flaunt a little.
Then, as if instantly grasping the situation, Rosana's lips curved into a knowing smile.
"Sure."
The Heiress disspaited her sword. "So, at the end, you want to beat me down for your jealousy?"
"Absolutely."
Lila stretched her lips before nodding.
"I'm to be the first Wife of Mel! Her one and only!"
Unconsciously emphasizing 'one and only', Lila further puffed out her moderate chest.
This time, her eyes consciously compared the bustiness of her opponent's, then focused back at her smirking face with flushed cheeks.
"So naturally, I'm to discipline those that didn't dedicate all their efforts to Mel and Mel only!"
Then, she pointed at Rosana. "I dislike you. Mel put all her efforts into loving us, yet you dismissed her attempts as a... a..."
She hesitated, her brain digesting the language Rosana used.
"Prey... yes, prey!"
Lila heavily nodded. "You-you view Mel as some trophy, don't you? I can tell you're the type to pursue glory and fame instead of Mel and Mel alone."
Mel's eyes glimmered, more focused on how Lila pinpointed Rosana's personality.
And as her pride dwelled on how much her Lila grew, Rosana merely shrugged.
"I don't see any fault in that."
Unbothered, Rosana's fingers danced in the air, a bit annoyed at her way of life being questioned.
"I'm a Heiress, a Leader, a Dragoness. I'm to take, and not to give. What would you understand about me?"
Rosana's eyes narrowed; a subtle gesture to threaten Lila.
Though Lila merely stepped forward.
"And I disagree! I don't know what your role limits you, but I do know when a person's feeling is shown, you've a responsibility to reciprocate."
Her feet entered Rosana's shade, then held her head high against Rosana's suinting stare with her piercing, Emerald eyes.
"To accept or to reject; to at least promise an answer someday, or to flat out tell Mel you don't know what you feel."
Then, her lips curled into a taunting smirk.
"Alternatively, you could just say you're not worthy of Mel's love."
Damn, Lila!
Mel's jaw hung open; has her Lila always been this good with words?!
Then she recalled when Lila always confessed her dark possession; hm, come to think of it, Lila was awkwardly fluent when it always came to her, huh?
Yet Rosana merely squinted, a flicker of surprise crossing before it was quickly washed away with a chuckle.
"Those words were merely losers' thinking."
The Heiress then crossed shoulders with Lila, before striding to the other side of the field.
"You think too little of me."
Her solemn back then turned around, before stretching her arm to spawn a two-handed battleaxe.
"Whether it was fame and glory, whether it was my prey's love or hatred, I want them all. Consume them all."
Cold breeze flung up around Lila's figure before she sent a sharp glare over her shoulder.
"You dare compare your pursuit of worldly wants to my Mel?"
"So what?"
Rosana shot an equally taunting grin; her axe now loosely hung on her shoulder, unthreatened by Lila's seething tone.
"It's simply a different way of living. You dedicate yourself to your lover, while I dedicate my life to all."
Lila swung her shoulder around. "That's why I dislike you a lot."
"Oh. That's a shame."
Rosana's neck craned. "I have no need for your liking either."
A golden warrior facing a frosty mage; their staring contest locked with the intensity of a wildfire meeting the frigid mountain.
In the midst of it, Mel merely thought.
'Wow... dogfight! Also, why did Lila pick a fight with Rosana right when they entered the room?!'
Complaining a little inside, a panel then popped up in Mel's vision.
[ Oh? Envy and Greed fighting again? ]
'Again?!'
Mel screamed inside, telepathing to Maria on habit.
'Don't tell me...'
[No, their difference in ideologies is bound to lead to more fights. ]
[ Though, try to calm their shaky relationship a little, Mel. Remember... ]
[ The <Draconic Invasion> came after the First Exam. You couldn't afford to slack off too much. ]
"Ah... I see..."
Mel muttered to herself, yet right as she finished her thoughts, the duo had already prepared their stances.
The blue crystal shimmered in a quiet rage, as Lila merely aimed at Rosana; a quiet formality for the request of a duel.
Rosana then retracted her grin; intrigue, annoyance, and-
The Heiress hesitated, then glanced at Mel.
The pink-haired, flirty golden eyes remained, playful as she remembered, and mesmerising as she liked.
Averting her eyes, she soon realised Lila stared at Mel too; the realisation exchanged when they crossed gazes again.
"When I win,"
Rosana's eyes widened in craziness, desires flaring as she spoke.
"You cannot ever, ever interrupt in the 'private sessions' in between me and my prey, unless I specifically allow it."
"Hmph!"
This time, ice fell out of the air as Lila's cheeks bloated into her signature pout.
"Then if I win, the opposite. I can join in and interrupt you two no matter what."
The affirming eyes from earlier told Lila she could bet without worrying about repercussions.
Too bad; even if she had to interrupt Mel and Rosana's flirting session, even when Mel and Rosana's relationship potentially had the World itself at stake-
Then she merely needed to exceed Mel and that Saintess's expectation, growing strong enough to replace Rosana's role.
And first, she had to beat the Heiress, even in her weaker <Human> form!
The Witch of Envy took a deep breath, then muttered out.
"I declare a Frozen Wonderland upon this World."
