CRIMSON GUARD

Chapter 18: Synchronization

'Although I have decided to accept your deal I won't comply to it if you to tell me to do something stupid or abnormal', he continued with a grin on his face. It was his way of telling the system that it hadn't won the battle completely.

[User's resolve has showed his intellect]

[One stat point has been automatically added to your intelligence]

Harry almost spilled saliva when he had saw what the system had just done. Though he knew how these so called systems worked, he wasn't expecting it to pull this stunt on him.

'Weren't you the same one who told me you wouldn't be assisting me in any way?'

Harry waited in anticipation for the system to answer him but this time the screen had delayed a bit before before glitching. 'Are you hiding something from me?', he asked suspiciously with a narrowed eyebrow.

[Well, the system also has a privilege to grant the user gifts when he/she deserves it]

Pfttsst!

He had burst into uncontrollable laughter after reading what the system had displayed on the screen. Envisioning how a person acts after being caught red handed in a shameful act, Harry's cheeks boiled up with joy as sounds of laughter erupted from his vocal chords.

[This is a privilege the system can take away from you, keep on laughing and you will witness it]

These words had knocked the air out of Harry's chest, causing him to choke a little. He had beaten his chest a couple of times before his breathing stabilized. Staring back at the screen once again had caused his nose to emit fumes like that of a moving train.

With all the strength he could muster, he punched through the screen. A small gust of wind erupted from where his fist had landed and the immaculate screen had begun to deteriorate right in front of his eyes.

Before he could react to what was to happen next, an electric shock wave had passed throughout his entire nervous system.

Thud!

The sound reverberated throughout the ambiance as Harry's body fell to the ground. Soon afterwards though, his body began to convulse vigorously due to the voltage of electricity which had passed through his body.

The recoil of his involuntary actions had led to a couple bruises on his body. These bruises had appeared as a result of the sharp-edged grasses he had fallen into. In a thick forest filled with dangers of all shapes and sizes, what one always prevented from happening was getting unnecessary cuts and bruises. This is because several beasts around with heightened senses can smell the blood from these bruises easily. This will therefore make one an easy target.

[The user's health is deteriorating]

Harry witnessed the glitching of the screen but due to the kind of pain he was passing through at the moment he could not read what was been displayed on the screen. His face became much more red like tomatoes with each current of electricity which pulsated throughout his fragile body.

[User's health is deteriorating]

[User has taken critical damage]

'What can I do to save myself? Wasn't this thing sent to help me?"

Thoughts began to build up in his minds as he tried desperately to free himself from the electrifying grips of the system.

[System is in synchronization with user's body]

[Sychronization is in progress..]

At this moment, the pain Harry was feeling had begun to lessen a bit since the system had used this opportunity to adjust to his body. Though it was painful at first, it was the only chance the system was ever going get in order to synchronize with his body because the process inflicted much pain on the user.

The process involved the tearing down of muscles and reconstruction of tendons and cartilages. Restructuring of the components of one's system in other to allow mana within the atmosphere to pass through it. Without this process one will not be able to channel mana and magicka throughout their body.

Since one of the important things one needs in order to survive at the moment is both his physicality and magical abilities, not being able to feel the abundant mana within the planet is going to cause a problem for the person. It will be like an appliance which cannot allow electricity to pass through it— so pathetic.

[ Synchronization is in progress..]

The sizzling sound of the lightning echoed and the pain Harry was feeling within his flesh had drastically began to subside. Movement within his joints slowly became visible as he tried his best to move from his current position.

The stinging pain from the cuts and bruises all over his body had caused him to gasp in anguish but he knew that staying with the grass for long was going to cause more harm than good. Without hesitation, he slowly turned over his numb body and used his hands to anchor himself up from the ground where he laid helplessly.

The grass beneath his body rustled a little due to the cold breeze sweeping effortlessly under his skin almost seeping into his body. Harry had a look of annoyance and disgust on his face since his face was seconds ago from losing its handsomeness due to the disruption of his nervous system.

[Sychronization has reached 70%…]

He gazed at the screen and narrowed his eyebrows since he knew nothing of what was happening at the moment. His annoyance and anxiety turned into paranoia due to the unerring fear of the unknown. He wanted to run away once again but he immediately realized that it was going to be a bad idea to do something like that.

It was because of that idea that he was now in this unfortunate situation. He hated being caught up in a situation like this but he had no options at the moment.

With swift movements he quickly stomped his foot on the ground while pushing the rest of his body up with his fingers firmly pressed against the ground. His vision blurred a little due to the distortion of images his eyes had picked up from his surroundings.

His hands brushed again his eyes as he rubbed effortlessly against them in an attempt to clear his distorted eyesight. Though he felt the urgency to do so on instinct, he had a feeling in his gut that something was wrong somewhere and he needed desperately to check the screen right in front of his face.

'Why can't I see? Wasn't this just some dumb electric current passing through my body, why has it affected me this much?', he had asked himself with his anxiety building up like crazy. His intellect and understanding in scientific theories were brought into question as he stared into nothing with his eyes silently shut.

[Synchronization is at 80%..]

The calmness and solace he had always found in this darkness slowly faded away when the feint yellow glow of the system's screen had appeared out of nowhere once again. This time though he could finally make out everything that was on the screen. His face flashed with anxiety and fatigue when he had read what was on the screen. The anxiety was as a result of the the moments of torture he had passed through not long ago.

The fatigue was also as a result of the mental trauma he had gotten from his experience within the God forsaken crater. Those two elements of destruction —anxiety and fatigue, were what had helped shaped his personality up till now since his parents weren't giving him the training he deserved in order to be much more mannered in public.

Harry was almost about to open his eyes and was about check his surroundings when the screen had glitched again. After several insignificant seconds, new words appeared on the screen and he could now finally see them with his mental eyes.
