CRIMSON GUARD

Chapter 17: The system’s threat

[Harry Crawford had successfully obtained the players' system]

Harry rubbed his eyes a couple of times to clear his sight but the screen still persisted on his retina. This had startled him a little but he still maintained his calmness since he was the predator at the moment.

'What the hell is this?', he asked himself while vigorously using his right hand to pull whatever had blocked his vision. To his suprise though, the screen only fidgeted when his hand had passed through it but it returned back to normal within an instant after he retracted his hand.

Beads of sweat snaked down the back of his neck when he realized that all his actions had been futile. This made a look of annoyance appear on his blood stained face. This kind of annoyance was the same which had been produced when the green blood from the cat's tail had spilled on his impeccable face.

As if releasing the awkward situation they were in, the screen glitched and new words began to appear on it. This had caused him to jump back a bit on impulse. Doing so he thought the screen would have stayed stationary but to his anguish the screen had disappeared and appeared right in front of his retina again.

Thud!

The noise erupted from the ground as Harry fell on his bottom. The speed with which the screen had disappeared and appeared had caused him to fall back. Before he could process what was happening though, the screen had disappeared and appeared once again.

'Stay away from ME!!!', he shouted while slowly moving away from the place where he was with his bare hands. He was currently crawling away from the screen like a little baby who was running away from his mother. The screen did its thing right away, startling him again in the process.

'Go AWAY!!'

Before he could process what the new words on the screen were saying, he had begun to throw the splinters of the shattered trees at the technological screen. Looking closer at the screen, one could clearly identify that the words on it had changed once again.

[What are you so much afraid of?]

After taking time to cool down, Harry finally came back to his senses and was now silently staring at the words on the screen.

[What are you so much afraid of?]

The question had appeared once again, drawing his attention to the sarcastic tone of the words written on the screen.

'Yo, you've got no right to ask me such a question! You are the one who kept popping up in front of my line of sight! What did you expect me to do?", he replied with anger boiling up in his body.

[You have been permanently recognized as an official player and has been granted the player's system]

Harry scoffed badly while staring at the new words which had just appeared on the screen. He knew nothing of what the screen was talking about but from what the angel had told them within the cave he had an understanding of what it was trying to proclaim.

'What is the player's system about?', he asked while maintaining his annoyance.

The screen glitched once again and the words on the screen were replaced by a new one.

[The player's system is technologically advanced record book which takes into consideration a player's progression. It gives accurate information about your stats, innate strength and skills, weapons you are currently wielding, your growth pace and several others which will be of importance to you.

Its main job is to make sure that its user is in tune with how to use his skills much more effectively and efficiently. It also makes sure that the user improves at a slow but steady pace which will prevent the body from feeling any form of backlash after experiencing growth in heaps and bounds.

Though this system can provide you with most of the information you seek, it has been restricted by its creators to provide users with only information associated with their growth. All other forms of information are prohibited from being disposed.]

Harry stared at the screen with a tint of joy in his eyes, since he knew how these kind of systems worked after all. Even though his parents always prevented him from having phones and computers he still had been to his school's lab and had witnessed his classmates playing role play games.

He knew that these systems were what always displayed the user's stats and powers. Getting such a thing in his current situation was something he had never expected so he was ready to make the best out of it.

Thinking about this had taken his mind off the screen he was currently staring—he hadn't noticed when the screen had changed its words once again.

[This system by no means has no way of aiding you in your missions but you will have to complete or task it gives in other to improve. Therefore all you have to do is follow and do what it tells you to do if you want to improve exponentially.

Disobeying this simple rule is going to end up in a stunted growth rate and might later on lead to your inevitable death. You might think that this system is bluffing but you will live to regret it if you break this rule.]

The tint of joy he had in his eyes slowly faded away as he read the new set of words the system was showing at the moment. Annoyance and anger started to boil in him once again due to the kind of threat the system was currently trying to impose on him.

Although he was someone who liked being dared and wanted to break the rule, he had his own sense of precognition and could feel what the system was trying to tell him in his bone. This had sent shivers down his spine immediately causing him to shudder in fear.

Power was something every person craved for what was the point or importance of gaining that if in the end all those around you can still beat and disrespect you? Also, what was the importance of the power if one did not even have the sufficient time to enjoy it? All these questions kept ringing in his head like church bells.

'I guess I won't have to go against your rules', he sighed and replied while shrugging his shoulders gently to signify his imminent defeat.

'Although I have decided to accept your deal I won't comply to it if you to tell me to do something stupid or abnormal', he continued with a grin on his face. It was his way of telling the system that it hadn't won the battle completely.
